Newness is coming! Can I believe it’s only 3 months left? I’m already reading Christmas books and trying to decide which ones to give as Christmas gifts and which ones to use in my Christmas tree countdown. This book will definitely be considered for our book tree cutting activity this year.

The book was developed after Amy had a disturbing discussion with her friend Frederic, who lived in Rwanda. He found out that day that people in Rwanda don’t make Christmas lists. They focus on giving rice to the needy and donating to the church. Your book is a great way to spread awareness of the needs of others.

Plan With Me: Christmas Shopping Lists — Mid Modern Mama

The hardcover children’s book features 28 pages of illustrations by Daniel Fernandez that show the family’s holiday family traditions, such as decorating the house with Christmas lights, watching a Christmas play, eating a feast, singing Christmas carols, reading Christmas stories, going on vacation, and helping others. This picture book of Christian rhymes has a simple and clear message that I believe every child needs and wants to hear at some point in their lives. The story focuses on a boy as the narrator and protagonist who makes a Christmas list. However, your Christmas list may differ from what you would normally see at Christmas time. Your letter is addressed to God, not Santa, which is one of the reasons I enjoy this book. At the beginning of the book, the boy says. . .

“Dear God, I’m changing things this year – instead of toys and stuff, I want Christmas for the whole world, especially those who don’t have enough.”

In each of the two pages, the main character asks God for something or things that will bless and change the world around him. His Christmas list focuses on and emphasizes helping others, especially those in need. The author mentions one or two countries in each two-page spread. This is a great way for homeschooling families to integrate geography into their vacation lessons. Alice will see the places mentioned in the book on the map and globe. He will also write his own “Christmas List” letter to God. I hope that after reading this book he will be encouraged to organize his own service learning projects. The following countries were mentioned:

A boy asks God to help others understand why God gave us Christmas. This book shows the real reason why we should celebrate Christmas. It affirms the importance of how Jesus was the savior of the earth, beginning with his birth.

One of my favorite parts of the book is the “Connecting with Parents” Christmas list activity found at the end of the book, which consists of a Bible verse to memorize (Matthew 25:40), a Bible parable to read from the Bible (Luke 10:25-37), and five questions for reflection. Your child will then have the opportunity to make a Christmas list focused on at least five people who relate to a disadvantaged group. After creating your list, you will pray for these people. I can think of many more holiday extension activities using this book.

“As a child, it can sometimes seem difficult to make big changes, but pay attention to the people God sends your way. You might be surprised what a difference those two small hands can make.”

Another feature of the book that I enjoyed was seeing the back cover and front cover of the book, which contained photos and captions referencing suggestions from the “World Christmas List” provided by others. Suggestions point to our favorite activities, including Operation Christmas Child, Christmas carols in nursing homes, clothes for families in need, bags for the homeless and socks for soldiers. This book promotes not only helping those in need at Christmas, but throughout the year.

Th Annual Holiday Gift Guide 2022

I highly recommend my Christmas list to any child, especially in the 4-8 age group. However, you may wonder if your child will be overly sensitive when reading about the needs of others around the world.

This book will add more meaning to the holiday and Christmas season. I’m always looking for quality Christian books to read over the holidays and this one made our list. I plan to use this book as a tool in late November and throughout December, hoping to inspire and motivate my daughter to think about those in need as we participate in traditional service learning projects during the holiday season. I really want him to focus on what he can do for others rather than his personal wants and desires.
