The picture quality exceeds that of the Sharp TV, it feels slightly lighter and appears to have a better physical texture. It offers a good refresh rate, all the apps you need and once again the picture is fantastic. More importantly… it weighs about $4000 (give or take a little).

It’s an edge LED and some TVs a lot of people have issues with edge bleeding. If you’re familiar with bright screens, you know what we’re talking about. In our experience with this TV, we didn’t find anything special to point out or complain about. There is no distraction with the edges taking your eyes away from the whole picture. There are no odd lights (either on or off) coming from the sides and dark scenes (or all black scenes) make no difference in the image (in terms of color or texture).
This TV delivers very accurate and dark blacks that are pleasing to the eye. The screen has a high gloss to it so it gives a nice glass quality as opposed to a non-glossy / low-gloss screen that has a plastic-like look that some TVs use for some reason. The downside of a good glossy screen is that you may get more reflections during the day but the quality that helps to display the image you see is far greater.
The speed of installed apps is impressive. We’ve played with TVs and Blu-ray players in the past where the menu and app navigation was just pathetic. Visio is fast and responsive though and no problem with our collective ADD.
The 3D video on this TV looks amazing and it also comes with 4 pairs of glasses so you don’t have to go out to the store for “extras” if you have a family (of course you have a very busy life) some Give the other kids to prepare the glasses… and then you must pay for a visit to the store). The number of glasses provided is more than enough if you consider the average family size, so considering that some TVs only use a pair or two, extra credit goes to Vizio for being reasonable. . Although the 3D image is impressive, it is similar to the 3D technology that we were very impressed with at CES earlier this year.

The controller is basic so you’ll want to find a good Logitech Sync or something else if you want something crazy. With so many learning remotes on the market today (including Logitech where you can download TV profiles directly to them), we can not really fault them for remotes (they can easily be prepared as well as they want).
We can’t fault them for the on-screen speakers as no flat TV has an impressive speaker in our opinion. If you are looking for basic TV viewing sound, this TV has better sound quality than other TVs. If you are looking for theater sound … You should always invest in a good bar or surround sound system as with TV you mostly pay for video quality (sound is just icing on the cake).
We found nothing wrong with the firmware provided. However, like any TV or Blu-ray player, it is still a good idea to update the firmware as soon as you take it out of the box and turn on the device (just in case). Always make sure you have the latest firmware before going into TV customization. This helps reduce bloopers found in previous firmware releases.
Finally, we feel that someone has finally released a quality large LED screen that is both pleasing to the eye, and affordable for the general public. That’s the price of Samsung (currently the largest 75″), the price of Sharp and all other competitors (currently).

When it comes to quality versus price, Vizio has nailed the target with one quick swing of the hammer. When it comes to the question “Why should we buy one for our house”, the answer is … yes. Of course, given the budget, if there was an opportunity to afford a new TV, we all agreed that we would have one of these.
So we give the Vizio M801d-A3R 80″ M-Series LED Smart TV 8 out of 10 stars. This rating makes sense because the TV is committed to the interests of the average consumer but there is always room for improvement (high star rating for example if Samsung TV screen quality is better but still the same price now).
