I recently moved and along the way my trusty 2016 Sony XBR-75X850D, as things do, experienced a cracked screen. It’s time to do something bigger and better. I’ve been using small LG TVs for a long time, but since I also have a home theater in my new location, it’s time to think big. So, after much research, I found LG’s new 77″ 4K TV: LG OLED77C TV 2021. Lg G2 77in Oled Review: Gee Whizz What Stunning Visuals
Why? Well, let me start with the basics. LG uses organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) for its high-end 4 and 8K TVs. Unlike conventional LEDs, and less expensive, these carbon diodes can adjust the light pixel by pixel from perfect backlight to bright white. The result is that you get more contrast from OLED screens than others. And, yes, I’ve included last year’s flagship plasma TV, the Panasonic TC-P60ZT60 plasma.
Well, it’s a technical thing. What happened while I was sitting in front of it watching Suicide Squad is the best television show I’ve ever seen. And, my friends, I watch a lot of television in my day.
Of course, it’s possible that there’s better TV out there that I’ve never seen. For example, the LG 8K OLED88Z1PVA with 8K resolution is not available in the States And, the new LG OLEDG1 series, which is designed for wall mounting, and the OLED panel might be better with the Evo, but I don’t see it.
Besides being good for 4K movies with high-dynamic range (HDR), I found that the screen is also good for sports and games. Video response time has to be seen to be believed.

Part of that is the outstanding screen, but it’s also LG’s Alpha a9 Gen 4 processor for better zoom and video display. It uses deep learning (ML) in AI Picture Pro to analyze and optimize your videos. Gamers will love the new Game Optimizer menu. It allows you to instantly adjust your brightness, contrast and variable refresh rate (VRR). Combine this with Auto Low Responsive Mode (ALLM), Auto Game Mode and you’ve got a great gaming monitor.
Serious gamers who can get their hands on a PlayStation 5 will also be happy to know that the 77C1 comes with four HDMI 2.1 ports. HDMI 2.1 is the latest HDMI standard. The connector itself has not changed. Your current cables and gears will still work fine on the 77C1. However, with new cables and devices you can play games with frame rates up to 120 frames per second.
Personally, I love all the connections I can get on my TV. Apart from the usual HDMI port and RF CoAx port, it comes with three USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and optical audio output.

Apart from the display, the TV has an outstanding 2.2-channel front speaker. Now usually when you’re talking about a TV at this level, you skip it because it assumes you’re going to use a sound system with it. This is a safe assumption. I credit some of that distinctive sound to the hardware design, but I trace most of it to the 77C1’s ML/AI software. AI Sound Pro does an outstanding job of blending with the TV’s built-in speakers while Auto Volume 3 maintains a consistent volume when switching between channels or streaming apps. I’m honestly surprised that the system is good at dealing with voice changes. There are moments when it switches from plain sounding to enhanced sounding, but it’s worth pausing.
I really like the improved webOS 5 interface. WebOS is a Linux-based system that could compete with smartphones and tablets, but has been abandoned by its original maker, HP. Fortunately, LG saw its potential. Today, webOS is my favorite smart TV interface for both Android and Roku. Combined with the latest LG Magic Remote, it’s a joy to use. Also, the remote supports both Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.

First I always recommend that you add a Roku Ultra or other popular streaming device to your smart TV. I did this because smart TV OEMs do a poor job of more obscure online streaming services. Now, LG is giving Roku a run for your money. Roku Ultra works with my new TV, but for the first time with a smart TV, I didn’t feel the need for it. In addition to the top streaming TV suspects – Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Netflix and Hulu – it also supports many more obscure streaming channels.
Watching TV is a pleasure in itself. It’s seriously thin. Chances are your smartphone is thicker than that. I’m definitely not kidding. Also, if you use the LG stand like I do, it feels solid on my home theater credenza.
There’s only one thing I regret about this TV: the list price of $3,299.99. But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. And, in this case, I got the best TV I’ve ever had.
If you want more TV for your money, “=””>. To me, that extra inch isn’t worth the extra 2 inches. For those of you on a tight budget, the 65-inch model is $2,099.99; the 55-inch is $1,499.99; and the 48- inch is $1,299.99. Sorry. Samsung’s S95C OLED TV offers a premium home entertainment experience. Stunning picture and sound quality and a luxurious design that won’t look out of place in your home.
