Update 75 Tv Smart Review – Mi QLED TV 75 is an amazing achievement for Xiaomi. Once again this brand democratized the television market by significantly lowering the barrier to entry for QLED panels in the large screen TV segment. The Mi QLED TV 75 delivers if you want it to be a great screen for watching movies. However, if gaming is a priority, the Mi QLED 75 would not be my first recommendation due to some connectivity issues, and the lack of future protection.

In recent years, Xiaomi has worked to change its image from a value-conscious player to a full-spectrum brand. Part of this transition includes spinning off the Redmi brand into its own separate entity to focus on more affordable smart devices across its various product lines.

Clearly, this strategy is working for the brand as it starts to become more ambitious with a broader portfolio. Along with the Mi 11 series of high-end smartphones, Xiaomi has recently introduced the Mi QLED TV 75 for the Indian market. As the name suggests, this is a 75-inch TV which is a step above the recently launched 65-inch Redmi TV. In addition to the obvious difference in size, Xiaomi focuses on image quality with QLED panels and, of course, value.

The Mi QLED TV 75 is a 4K TV that takes a value-focused approach to large-screen displays. It costs Rs. 1, 19, 999 in India, it outbids other QLED sets by a large margin, and is the only competitor that will be priced to stick to a conventional LCD panel. The TV can be purchased via Mi.com and Flipkart and is only available in gray. Xiaomi has not yet announced plans for a global launch.

The feature set includes most modern codecs and formats including Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HDR 10+. Built on top of Android TV with services from Patchwall on the side, it offers access to a variety of streaming services as well.

The Mi QLED TV 75 takes a lot of inspiration from the 55-inch model and looks very high-end. It’s cheap in the big-screen TV scheme but still Xiaomi’s most prestigious TV. It is very obvious that Xiaomi has paid attention to details.

It starts from the general display where the bezels are very small. A dark silver frame surrounds the display with minimal branding. The nondescript Mi logo sits front and center, while the “Designed by Xiaomi” logo is barely placed on the right side of the frame.

The big change this time is the television setting. There are no metal stands on the sides, and the Mi TV 75 has a heavy duty metal stand mounted in the middle which looks quite elegant. The TV is, of course, VESA compatible, and Xiaomi will mount the wall for free if you need that service.

The port selection is exactly what we saw on the 55-inch Mi Q1 and includes two HDMI 2.0 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port with eARC support. You will also find dual USB 2.0 ports, ethernet, an audio jack as well as an optical output. For legacy devices, Xiaomi has also included an RF port, so you should be able to connect a dedicated set top box or retro console back to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Finally, you also get mixed input. It is fair to say that the port selection is strong.

On the wireless side, the TV includes Bluetooth 5.0 as well as Wi-Fi and things are pretty good. I had no problem streaming high bitrate content from a local server, and streaming services worked fine in 4K. The connection was pretty good even with the TV at a distance from my Wi-Fi router.

Overall, the 75-inch Mi QLED is high enough to be considered a premium product. It’s certainly not as good as equivalent products from Sony or LG, but I doubt consumers will find anything to complain about here.

The key difference for Mi TV is the Patchwall interface. It’s not as flashy as, say, WebOS on LG TVs, but it’s compatible with integration across a number of regional and international streaming services. More importantly, TV pulls DTH or Direct to Home services and integrates them into a fast interface.

What does this mean for consumers? Better tips, for one. Universal search works across 25 streaming services and can also connect to over-the-air television to send suggestions and recommendations. It all works if you care about over-the-air TV, and it’s a good value. Meanwhile, you can switch to the standard Android TV interface with the click of a button if you, like me, prefer the standard interface. Regardless, the set also has built-in Chromecast capability.

That’s it for the good stuff. However, I had a serious problem updating the software on the Mi QLED TV 75. There were more than a few times when the interface froze for a few seconds. The volume bar will also lock up at times, and there are times when the remote is completely unresponsive. I have been told that many bugs are fixed in the upcoming update. However, there is no set time for when the update will come out.

Xiaomi has thrown a lot of technology into the panel here, and it shows. The 4K 8-bit panel is compatible with HDR 10, HDR 10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. Peak brightness is rated at 1,000 nits, and 192 dimming zones allow for highly effective backlight control. The Q in QLED comes from a layer of quantum dots that help improve contrast levels. And yes, the panel itself is capable of 120Hz – with a caveat.

Like most TVs, I wasn’t impressed with the color calibration out of the box. Spend a little time with the picture settings though, and you can get a lot more out of the TV. There are various picture settings and turning off backlight levels, image sharpness, and turning off MEMC alone can make a world of difference.

The contrast level is excellent and the black level is particularly good thanks to the overall reduction. I’m partial to OLED panels, but the Mi TV pulls its weight with aplomb and I never feel like I’m missing out when watching a movie like Hereditary.

More on the game side of things where I noticed some special things. First, while the panel itself is at 120Hz, the television cannot receive an external 120Hz signal in 4K because the decoder is used. This means that the next generation console is locked out of 120Hz support in 4K, so Xiaomi’s claim that this is a 120Hz TV is quite disingenuous. Xiaomi claims that the TV will support 1080p/120fps input on HDMI, but I can’t confirm this because the Mi QLED TV 75 completely refused to detect my PlayStation 5 later during the trial period. Additionally, there is no variable refresh rate (VRR) support.

And that’s before we get to the real issue here. Put it down to bandwidth issues, or the aforementioned decoder, but I had a serious problem keeping two HDMI devices connected to the television. The PlayStation 5 has a known issue that can cause flickering with certain TVs, but reducing the transfer rate will fix almost all issues – it certainly did with my older LG 4K set.

However, before it fails every time, the only thing that works with the Mi QLED TV 75 is the PlayStation resolution to reduce it to 1080p or, strangely, the Fire TV stick that is in the disposal of another HDMI port. Removing the secondary flush stick fixed the problem. I have contacted Xiaomi about this issue. The company says it is investigating, but no solution has been offered at the time of this publication.

Xiaomi has talked about the audio capabilities of its new TV. Offering up to 30W output in total using two tweeters and four woofers, it packs plenty of volume. However, that volume doesn’t translate to an isolated soundstage. Even though the drivers are spread across all sizes of the television, I found myself constantly adjusting the volume to hear the dialogue.

The TV supports eARC via HDMI and can stream Dolby Atmos audio to the receiver if you want to include it in a home theater system.

Xiaomi has a device that unites its portfolio of televisions and streaming devices, and that’s what you get here. It would be nice to see a more premium speed considering the TV’s high-end setup, but what’s here works.

There’s a command pad, direct shortcuts for Netflix and Prime Video, as well as buttons to drop you into a Patchwall or Android TV-like interface
