The Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN800B is part of Samsung’s upper range, sitting below the 700 series and above the 900 series. This is definitely a high-end series with an MSRP of $2,600 for the 65-inch version. In Samsung’s upper segment, this 800 series clearly holds the edge for me in terms of price-performance ratio. Plus, you can now find it for a much lower price, as Amazon is now selling it in the region of $2,200 or less.

After clearing some space in the living room for the 65-inch QN800B, it was time to set it up. Thanks to my octopus arm, I could do it alone, but it’s better if there are two of you to do it according to its size. What is included in the delivery? The TV, of course, but also the necessary cables, stand and remote. I’m not much of a master, but even for me climbing the stand was no problem. By the way, you can also attach the One Connect Box to this stand, which was also part of the package. What? Wait, I’ll explain further:
Samsung decided to concentrate all possible connections in one box. This way, the company can build the TV so thin that it actually looks like a painting when attached to the wall. The box (full name: One Connect Box) also clarifies the question of how to avoid unnecessary cable clutter. There is an unobtrusive cable from the TV to this box and from there you connect the power cable to the outlet.
All other devices are connected to the One Connect Box. As mentioned above, you can attach it to the stand so that it is practically invisible. You can also place it separately and away from the TV in your TV cabinet. What connections are available?

I found it very convenient that all the ports are there. Since it’s not obvious, I can also save myself climbing behind the TV every time I want to connect a device.
By the way, the TV tips the scales at eleven kilograms. This gives the TV a total weight of 31.2 kilograms! If you’re strong like me, you can lift the TV into place, but as I mentioned above: Please do it as a couple!
The rest of the setup is as easy as can be: With the remote in hand, you navigate the menu, enter your Wi-Fi information, and then you’re greeted by Tizen or the TV’s user interface. We will discuss what this is about later.

The Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN800B looks beautiful with its “Infinity One” design at almost 17mm thick. Thanks to the One Connect Box, you will also be spared the mess of running cables.
I’m a bit torn on the build quality and design. When I watch the TV from the couch, it looks absolutely big and expensive. The back, on the other hand, looks pretty cheap, as does the One Connect box cover. I also noticed that the box produced significantly more heat than my own TV.
I already mentioned the One Connect box above and I’d like to mention it again here. That’s because it’s definitely a design advantage worth mentioning if you don’t always see half a dozen cables hanging from your TV. This looks especially great if you ditch the stand and hang the unit on the wall. However, you will need to purchase the appropriate mount separately.
Under the hood is the “Neural Quantum Processor 8K”. It ensures that you take advantage of 8K high definition in the best possible way by upscaling the content. Also on board: dual DVB-C/DVB-S2/DVB-T2 tuner, 4.2.2 channel speaker system with 70 watts and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision, on the other hand, is unfortunately not supported, but there is support for HDR10, HDR10 + and HLG.

Standing right in front of the unit, I noticed that heat dissipation was easy. This probably also goes hand in hand with high power consumption. More on that when we talk about photo quality. If you choose the “film” mode, the colors soften a bit and look more natural.
Next on the list of my praises for the display: the 8K resolution! 7680 x 4320 pixels put a smile on my face. But there is a downside to the 8K story: the lighting needs to be brighter to provide a vivid image like a 4K TV before. Samsung quoted a power consumption of 437 watts for HDR. This is roughly double the 4K model and only touches the QN800B energy efficiency class G. This means it will cost you more energy, but on the other hand, it also has the advantage that you can indirectly heat the house with appliances there.

The catch with the 8K resolution is that nothing can be seen in 8K right now. If you find relevant content – like the third season of “Das Boot”, which you can watch for free on Samsung TV Plus, your jaw will drop to the floor, I promise. Picture TV just doesn’t get more real than this! But, unfortunately, the offer is still pretty limited – and you don’t want to buy a $2,600 set box or some well-made 8K YouTube clips.
Fortunately, Samsung has also hit the ground running with the 8K upscaling. Watch HD or 4K movies on such a device and you will be amazed at the quality achieved by Samsung. Of course, it always depends on the quality of the source material how good the result looks. The enhanced image doesn’t look too artificial, nor do you have to worry about artifacts or color errors.
But again, feel free to experiment with different image modes and settings to find the perfect result for you. Honestly, I found “Smart Mode”
