I appreciate the X900H’s great contrast, better color reproduction and sleek design, but TVs like the Vizio OLED offer better contrast, better colors and a slimmer design. Different TV sizes in a series tend to perform very similarly to each other, so we don’t expect there to be big differences between the 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch variants of the X900H. However, one thing to keep in mind is the difference in local attenuation zone counts. In general, more local dimming zones are desirable, as they allow tighter contrast control. Sony doesn’t usually disclose the zone count of its TVs, but it’s possible that each series size has a different number of zones, which could theoretically affect contrast, though perhaps not to the extent that any series size performs drastically. different from each other.

For the SDR test, we used Sony’s “Custom” picture settings. For the HDR test, we also used the TV’s ‘Custom’ picture setting. We chose this setting for its accuracy (Sony reports that the ‘Custom’ image setting is the best calibrated mode), but results may vary depending on which image mode is enabled. For every test we ran, the X900H’s light sensor (which adjusts the TV’s backlight settings based on ambient lighting conditions) was disabled.
We use a standard ANSI checkerboard pattern for most of our basic contrast tests, including the one below, but we also use a black and white window between 2% and 90% to test contrast tightness when viewing various degrees of brightness.
