Directed by Tony Scott, Quentin Tarantino’s masterfully written The Science of Love has been given the 4K treatment from Arrow Video. Is this a decent upgrade or should we wait for something better?

The Bird With The Crystal Plumage’ 4k Uhd Review: Arrow Limited Edition
Note: I do not have the ability to take screenshots of 4K Blu-rays. So, no screenshots in this review. I would have included screenshots from the Blu-rays, but Arrow doesn’t seem to want to include the Blu-rays with their 4K Blu-rays, so I can’t do that. As usual there are syringes at the end of the pack.
Elvis comic book store employee Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) runs his business on Sonny Chiba’s triple bill when Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette) walks into his life – and the two have been inseparable ever since. Within 24 hours, they were married and fired after forcing Clarence to kill an undercover man, from Alabama. Driving a Cadillac across the country from Detroit to Hollywood, the newlyweds plan to sell a suitcase full of stolen drugs to support a new life for themselves … but little suspects that the police and the mafia are closing in on them. What can one say about true love that is not spoken? It’s one of Tony Scott’s movies and one of Quentin Tarantino’s best scripts. Everything about this movie is good. The script is worthy of some of the best dialogue scenes in an action movie. Tony Scott gives the film his usual look and feel, but he does something his contemporaries didn’t often do: he lets the dialogue scenes play out. Many action directors would cut the dialogue to fit their filmmaking style, but not Scott. He lets the characters speak and builds his style around them. This movie has one of the best actors. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are perfect here. They are very loyal and loving. I can’t think of anyone else in these roles. There is not a single role in this film that is not cast perfectly. It was a movie that many people discovered after an afternoon trip to their local video store. I can tell you how I found it. True Romance is an amazing film that is still being reviewed today.
Rendered in the film’s original 2.39:1 aspect ratio, and featuring new 4K scans of film negatives and 35mm mediums, it’s an excellent transfer. Both home Blu-rays of the film look like crap, so Arrow has its work cut out for it. Thankfully, the arrow always goes in. The detail here is very high, especially in the close-ups. An excellent example of this is the “Sicilian” show. You can see that Christopher Walken’s character is wearing a pinstripe suit, which I hadn’t noticed before. Gone is the artificial sharpening like a cry. The grain is here. It is thin, but present and well refined. HDR, (both HDR10 and Dolby Vision) gives us excellent colors. This is the best transfer of 2021.
Waterworld 4k Uhd Review: Dir. Kevin Reynolds [arrow Video]
There are two audio tracks in our selection: the 5.1 track and the original 2.0 mix of the film. 5.1 sound is great. In fact, it was much bigger than I expected. This is not a bad thing. It’s just unexpected. The dialogues sound great and the action scenes are rounded out with a twist.
The picture and audio are exactly the same as the UK release, which is expected. Picture quality on Blu-ray, which I didn’t check because Arrow Video doesn’t include Blu-rays and most 4K Blu-ray releases. Everything I’ve said about 4K picture and sound quality can be applied to Blu-ray releases and standard restrictions. Yes, there is no HDR on Blu-ray so the colors are not as true or clear as the 4K release and the level of detail is not as high, but that does not mean that Blu-ray is inferior. The Blu-ray looks great and is in a fan’s collection.
Aero Video has featured all of the legacy features on various DVDs and Blu-rays over the years and added many important features. There are four main feature description tracks. All four are worth listening to for completely different reasons. Tony Scott’s music is an art form. The Tarantino Track is a “looking for the outsider” type of song where Tarantino talks about the film from the POV of the writer and the POV of the viewer. The Slater/Arquette track is an actor’s play where they talk about working with different actors and the people behind the scenes. The Tim Lucas track is a track back to the viewer’s POV.
Then, we have six selected tracks of the description of the place on top of the four main tracks of the description. These songs range from four minutes to thirty-four minutes and include the actor’s screen time. Four songs are traditional while two are new songs featuring Bronson Pincott and Saul Rubinek. I enjoyed the whole song and it doesn’t take long.
Home Entertainment: ‘drive’ Blu Ray Review (2022)
Here are five new interviews. The first is with Susan Baker, a costume designer who remembers Tony Scott’s different takes on things and his passion for each character. Next up is Michael Tronick who has worked with Scott as an editor on several films. He talks about Scott’s shooting style and how he always had enough coverage everywhere. Scott loved shooting, even if it was an insert. Mark Mancina and John Van Tongren followed and talked about their time on the film and what it was like working with Hans Zimmer. Larry Taylor takes us through Scott’s work in the following interview. Scott is always a director we need to know more about and this interview certainly fills us in on the late director. Finally, in a new interview, we have Dan Price, a fan of the film. He talks about how he found the purple Cadillac driven by Christian Slater in the movie.
Eleven deleted and extended scenes come together next. There are some good scenes here but it’s cut right. The other ending is interesting but it would kill the mood of the whole film and let the audience down. The electronic press kit contains four items on the making of the film and on-set interviews with the cast. Trailers and image galleries are last but not least.
Where the UK and US discs differ is in the special features section. We knew there was going to be a change as James Flower’s Arrow video talked a lot on his Twitter. The interview with “Cadillac Man”, who owns the car Clarence drives in the film, is over. I don’t know why this is gone because it seems strange that it is missing. The new interview is also shorter with a selection of visual comments. Most of these can be chalked up to logos and credits. There is no problem when the difference in running time is a few seconds. However, this becomes a problem when the runtime difference is in minutes. The interview with Michael Tronick is more than just a short minute and interview with Larry Taylor. Everything else is the same.

Upgrade (2018) Limited Edition Blu Ray Review
True love will come from the good people at Arrow Video. This is one of their limited editions, which means some cool features and great packaging. The outer box is the standard chipboard type that Aero has used for years. Very nice and very reliable. The artwork used in this release is appropriate. It’s not the best piece of art they’ve ever used, though
