Three now offers a choice of Standard Bundles, Plus Bundles and Premium Bundles when you buy a smartphone on contract, a SIM-only bundle or a laptop or tablet.
However, at the time of writing, if you buy online – through Three direct or through a third-party store – you’ll only be able to buy the standard plan. Plus and Premium plans can only be purchased over the phone or in a physical Three store.
That will change later this year (2023) when all three types of plans will eventually be available online, so watch this space. In any case, you’ll find full details on the three types of plans below.
Standard plans are the cheapest as they have the fewest add-ons. You get a data allowance plus unlimited calls and texts, 5G and access to the Three+ Rewards app, which offers discounts, freebies and more from other brands.

The standard plans are very similar to the standard plans Three used to offer. The only real difference is that you can optionally add a Paramount Plus subscription to them, but this will cost extra (£6.98 per month to be exact).
Plus plans include the same things as standard plans – i.e. 5G, unlimited calls and texts, data and access to the Three+ Rewards app. However, on top of that, Three’s Plus packages also give you a Paramount Plus subscription for half the life of your plan (at no extra cost).
These plans also include the ability to roam abroad for up to 28 days each year at no additional cost if you are in one of three of more than 70 roaming destinations worldwide.
Premium plans are the best plans Three has to offer, and as such are the most expensive.

These give you 5G, unlimited calls and texts, data allowance and access to the Three+ app, just like the other types of packages. Then on top of that you basically get better versions of what’s in the Plus plans.
This includes a subscription to Paramount Plus for the duration of the plan, free roaming (at Three’s Go Roam locations) for up to 56 days each year and an extended warranty of 36 months if you take out a Premium plan with your device included.
These three new plans aren’t the only changes Three has made. The whole idea behind these plans seems to be to give customers more choice and to extend the focus on choice to contract length and cost sharing.
This means that when you buy a smartphone with a contract, you can choose how much you want to pay up front (from a range of options) and how long you want the contract to last – you can choose between 12, 24 or 36 months, with monthly costs adjusted accordingly.

This gives you more options than most networks, so you can better tailor your plan to your needs and budget. The process and all the new plans are known as “Three Your Way” and the company has a page that explains it all.
Note that there are fewer options if you choose SIM Only – you simply choose from a number of pre-set packages that last for 1, 12 or 24 months.
These news packs come with a new purchase process that gives you tons of options on the fly. So let’s quickly go through the entire process, first for the three-smartphone contract and then for the SIM Only plan.
So for a phone, whether you’re buying directly from Three or using a site like ours to find the best phone deals, the first thing you do is choose the handset you want. So far it’s that simple. However, please note that if you select a deal on a third-party site, you may find that it is no longer selected when you click through to the Three site, so in this case you will need to manually select the correct plan again. In addition to choosing the color and storage capacity you want, you also need to choose how much you want to pay up front and how long you want the contract to last – a choice of 12, 24 or 36 months. On the right side of the screen you will be able to see how this adjusts the monthly cost. However, we’re only looking at the cost of the phone – not the accessories that come with it.
Tap the “Continue” button under the “Choose your plan” heading and you’ll be taken to Add-ons. There will likely be three options initially, but if you don’t like one of these, you can click “See More Plans” to see other options.
Note that all of these plans are 24-month plans, so they don’t necessarily have to be as long as your monthly handset payments – for example, you could choose to pay off your phone over 36 months, meaning you can switch to a different plan after 24 months your allowances but you still have 12 months before your phone is paid off.
Also note that at the time of writing, only standard packages will be shown – you’ll need to call Three or go to a store for a Plus or Premium package.

In any case, choose a package, and then you’ll be able to choose whether you want to use a physical SIM card – which is the removable type we’ve used for years – or an eSIM, which is a virtual SIM card in the phone, and what’s not – the whole handset.
On this screen, you can also choose whether you want a spending limit and how much you want. If you set it, this will be the maximum amount you can spend on services outside of your monthly package (excluding VAT).
Press ‘Next’ and you will be able to select the appropriate extras to add to your order, then press ‘Next’ again to add insurance if desired.

This last option allows you to port your number later, or just have two numbers work at once.

Once this is done go to the next screen to double check that your order is correct and then on the next screen you need to enter your email address to receive the contract offer sent. After reading it, check the box at the bottom of the screen and finally go to the next screen to enter your information and place your order.
There will be a credit check with this contract, which also means that more is required than a simple purchase. You will need to say, for example, how long you have been at your address and when you opened a bank account.

Thankfully, three-SIM-only packages are a little easier to buy than phone plans. First you need to choose the plan you are interested in – you will notice that some last month, some 12 and some 24. As we explained above, you can only choose the standard plan if you buy online. – with Plus and Premium plans available on the phone and in Three stores, although this will change later in 2023.
Also note that if you choose a plan from a third party site like ours, you’ll end up on Three’s site and that plan should be highlighted, but you’ll need to click on it again to confirm it’s what you want.
Once the process is complete, it is similar to the process for phones, so see the section above for a more detailed explanation, but in short, you will be asked if you want to use an eSIM or a physical SIM, if you want to use the limit , x happens if you want any extras and if you want keep your current number or get a new one.
Go through all of these screens, enter your email address to receive a contract quote sent, and then fill in your details to sign up for the contract and place your order.
