Samsung improves cameras with special zoom focus, the screen now supports dynamic refresh rate at full 2K resolution, OneUI 3.0 software update based on Android 11 and a very promising Exynos 2100 on board. In our Galaxy S21 Ultra review, we discussed what we liked and disliked. let’s continue:

Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g Review: Samsung’s Best S Series For $200 Less Than Last Year’s Model
Samsung has stripped the Galaxy S21 of all its major luxuries out of the box. We agree that this is a step in the right direction to reduce our global carbon footprint. We still miss the excellent AKG headphones that Samsung has included in its flagships.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra doesn’t make a point of being big and bulky, and looks sharp and attractive. The differentiating factor is the thick aluminum plate layered around the camera cluster, which makes camera shock feel more transient. It’s not a continuation of the solid, shiny aluminum frame, but a separate unit with a matte finish that matches Victus’ matte Gorilla Glass back.
At first we were a little skeptical about this design feature, but now we’ve had some time to get used to it – we really like it. Without this incredible detail, the Galaxy S21 Ultra would look very ordinary.
In case you were wondering, the phone isn’t very heavy – the weight is balanced very well. The frosted glass is remarkably resistant to smudges and scratches, and the camera unit’s raised edge can withstand dents well – we still recommend using a case to maintain that clean look.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Vs. Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: Which Phone Is Best For You?
Samsung is gradually moving away from visual display curves and taking another step towards simplifying them with the S21 Ultra. I love the screen’s subtle curves and I’m glad they’re still here. The bezels around the screen are almost uniform, and the top and bottom are very narrow.
In addition to the pre-installed screen protector, there’s Gorilla Glass Victus protecting the front. It is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
There’s also S Pen support on the display, but it’s not built-in like it is on the Note series, it’s an optional accessory that’s in the case. Ensure the presence of people
In the past, Samsung’s in-display fingerprint readers have been relatively slow, even on flagships, but that’s no longer the case. Samsung upgraded to a faster and bigger (1.71x) ultrasonic sensor 2 years later, and it’s very fast and reliable. It’s also where our thumbs naturally rest.
Samsung Galaxy S21: More Of A Refresh
There’s also a haptic feedback mechanism below the screen, which worked really well for us when we cranked up the haptic feedback intensity.
Overall, the Galaxy S21 Ultra might not be the best choice for those who like compact phones. It’s a big, bold, good-looking flagship that’s still impressive.
With the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, users no longer have to choose between full HD or 2K resolution due to higher refresh rates or battery issues. You can have 120Hz with 2K resolution and that’s how we use the phone – and that’s been the biggest difference for us this generation. In comparison, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ are now limited to Full HD+ resolution.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra supports a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz and will likely be based on the same simple rear HoP technology as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, which was not a true VRR solution but had more subsets or mode switching options. Lastly, it helps save battery life in high refresh rate mode.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: A Note In All But Name
In our review, we can enjoy 120Hz smoothness during scrolling and UI transitions. Samsung’s adaptive refresh rate sync didn’t feel too conservative when switching to higher refresh rates.
The 6.8-inch AMOLED screen supports a wide range of colors and supports HDR10+. We immediately switched to the relatively accurate color “Natural” profile.
As always, Samsung’s OneUI software includes a customizable Always On mode and a dark theme perfect for taking advantage of deep AMOLED blacks.
This is a great quality display. You can only really appreciate its beauty when you compare it with mid-range or high-end flagships. Colors are bright, dynamic range is wide, and visuals are stunning.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Review: The Best Among The Beasts?
The Exynos 2100 is the first Samsung chipset to directly support ARM cores without any modifications. The chip is based on a 5nm process and features 1 Cortex X1 main core paired with 3 Cortex A78 performance cores and 4 Cortex A55 power cores.
The SoC supports up to 26 AI performance TOPs that should be seen in camera processing and faster AR applications.
The chipset is supported by LPDDR5 RAM and impressively fast UFS 3.1 memory. Samsung dropped the option to add a second microSD this year.
Overall, Samsung claims 30% better CPU performance and 40% better graphics from the new Mali-G78MP14 compared to last year’s Exynos 990, and our benchmark tests confirmed these claims.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: Triumphant Return Of The Note Superphone
We haven’t seen the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 version that Samsung uses in other markets yet, but we can detect a significant improvement in day-to-day performance compared to high-end Samsung flagships.
We have a variant with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. We had no issues with multitasking or high-end gaming. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has better thermal management and runs much cooler than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra does not surprise with the latest connectivity options. It has UWB connectivity, the latest Wi-Fi 6e, 5G support, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB 3.2 based Type-C port.
The software is OneUI 3.1 based on Android 11, which we’ve used extensively on past Samsung phones and is one of our favourites. Samsung bundles most of the features in Android 11, and unfortunately Google’s Smart Home dashboard didn’t work. Instead, Samsung has its own Devices tab which is easily accessible from quick settings. Finally, Samsung allows users to replace the Bixby dashboard with a Google feed. Unlike many other manufacturers, Samsung continues to support automatic call recording.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Is Here: Polished, And At A Lower Price
Samsung Pay does not support MST this year. Also, since most PoS terminals today support NFC, you can use your stored credit cards, at least for small transactions.
The Galaxy S21 has four cameras on the back – a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra wide camera, 3X telephoto and 10X telephoto zoom – and allows users to save 12-bit RAW images. There is a large 40MP selfie camera on the front.
Samsung puts its weight behind the zoom, and we can’t agree more that it’s the hottest feature in modern cameras, and we wish the manufacturers would improve it.
There are several limitations of optical zoom in smartphone cameras, one of which is that optical zoom can only be achieved for a single sensor magnification. Samsung includes separate 3x and 10x cameras, and everything in between and up to 100x is digital zoom.

Optical zoom is more stable this year. When you’re zoomed in, it’s easier to lock focus – we can even capture slow-moving license plates at 20x speed. All photos below are taken from the same location.
Daytime performance is as impressive as expected. The camera captures a wide dynamic range and can store a lot of detail. Colors are well balanced with slight oversaturation.
The ultra wide angle camera works really well in the right lighting. In dark scenes, the wide-angle camera quality deteriorates dramatically.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra is equally impressive under indoor artificial lighting. Images retain sufficient detail and have excellent contrast.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Specs
In dark scenes, the camera keeps noise in check. Night mode is smart enough to display complex scenes properly. The sky gradient colors in the following samples are accurately reproduced.
Live focus mode is now portrait mode and works faster and better. Samsung uses a 3x telephoto lens to capture depth information in Portrait mode, so all portraits are magnified. There are also various effects that can be added to portraits. Selfies have great detail and keep skin tones natural.
As for videos, the Galaxy S21 Ultra can capture optically stabilized HDR10+ videos and record 8K videos at 24fps. The quality of filming and video recording is again excellent. This year, Samsung is adding a Director’s View mode that lets you shoot with both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
