This SIM offer from Mobiles.co.uk is great – now you can get a generous 20GB of 5G data on iD Mobile’s network for £7/month. Best mobile networks 2023: UK’s top networks for 4G and 5G speeds, best data deals and customer service

In a survey we conducted for the awards, over 92% of users said they would recommend Smarty to friends or family, while over 81% of users were satisfied with customer service and some of the best scores for reliability. Three’s network offers strong 4G performance and some of the fastest 5G speeds, with RootMetrics testing putting its average 5G download speed at around 200 Mbits/sec. 5G coverage has also improved, with Tre reaching just over half of the UK population with just one of two networks.

If Smarty can maintain its quality of service as it grows, it will be the no-frills network to beat.

Voxi, from Vodafone, is a budget-friendly network with interesting ideas: its unlimited benefits give you unlimited data to use on the biggest social network services, making its price SIM-only cheaper. A whopping 98% of Voxy users said in our annual survey that they were satisfied with the network’s value for money, while nearly 90% said they would recommend it to others.

The Three Musketeers

Vodafone may now be in third place in terms of performance, dropping second place to three, but its average UK download speed (23.8Mbits/sec) and average 5G download speed (130Mbits/sec) aren’t bad. Most importantly, Voxy had excellent results for reliability: 21% of its users told us the network was always fast enough for video streaming, while 55% told us it was fast most of the time.

ID Mobile remains one of the cheaper options for SIM-only contracts, especially if you want a lot of data and are willing to sign up for a two-year plan. This allows you to roll over unused data to the next month, only adding to the cost of your plans.

ID Mobile uses Three as its host network, which means good 4G coverage, 5G coverage and better speeds across the board, especially if you’re lucky enough to have access to 5G. That said, there is evidence from both our survey and Ofcom’s research that customer support needs to improve: only 29% of iD Mobile customers told us they were very satisfied with the account.
