Originally, I really wanted a Wii U handheld version. I complained to producer Takashi Tezuka about it. After playing the latest game, however, I’m happy to report that it’s the biggest case for a Wii U console ever made. While a 3DS version would be great, I feel it’s unfair to detract from the Wii U’s shining moment by releasing a modded version of this game.

Nintendo went ahead and announced a 3DS port without me looking, but I still saw a flicker of excitement. That brief light was extinguished a few days later when they revealed that the 3DS version was missing what made the Wii U game so powerful: The ability to share level actions online. But the 3DS version limited players to downloading “recommended” games from Nintendo and switching to their mobile devices via Street Pass. I remember Nintendo saying this was due to technical limitations – the 3DS had a much simpler processor and RAM, so it couldn’t run some of the best. Wii U games can run – but whatever the reason, it really seems to be disappointing. the main appeal of the game. Creating levels is all well and good, but for those who have dabbled in the leveling methods of old NES games without saves or online features, the joy of doing so is useful.
So it was with something of trepidation and anger that I dove into what would turn out to be an unimaginative 3DS adaptation of my favorite game of 2015. Much to my surprise, now that I’ve played it, my thoughts. because this change is back to “enthusiasm”. With Super Mario Maker for 3DS, Nintendo has put together, without a doubt, the best console-to-handheld conversion yet.
However, there is no doubt: the loss of useful sharing capabilities. This, of course, undermines much of what makes Super Mario Maker such an amazing and addictive game. In practice, it turns out to be very low. You can download a wide variety of levels created by the community, so why did Nintendo remove the download option? Also, annoyingly, the download feature gives you levels on the form. This version lacks the search features of its console sibling, which is a shame considering how limited they were to begin with. But you’re limited to sharing individual levels via Street Pass – assuming you have someone in Year of Our Lord 2016 who always brings a 3DS with them to Street Pass.
This omission cannot be ignored. There is a large black mark in this version of the game. regardless of whether it’s really due to technical limitations or just arose from the demands of Nintendo’s nanny, it is.

Now, this is truly amazing: Super Mario Maker for 3DS is managing significant sales despite this angry exit.
A large part of my dislike for this port stems from Nintendo’s detailed history of porting Wii U games to the 3DS over the years. It doesn’t happen often, but the few precedents for this change haven’t done much to inspire confidence. Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS didn’t like this game and the fact that the restrictions ended the Wii U game forcing popular characters to drop. And Hyrule Warriors Legends is, to quote my own review, a “good cheat”, but not the best way to experience the game.
Fortunately, you won’t find a slippery switch here. For starters, the creation of Super Mario Maker – that is, bitmap-based 2D Mario platforming – is a natural fit for the 3DS hardware. I think Nintendo should have released a new 3DS version along with Super Mario World, because both did well and the 3DS already had its New Super Mario Bros. It’s only fair.

The real question is about the ornaments. Sure, 2D Mario games play great on the 3DS, but what about the gameplay?
2D Mario games? Fixed screen resolution, which looks great on the Wii U’s bulky gamepad, should work on the 3DS’s low-res screens – or
. Small lower DS resolution touchscreen. This not only gives gamers a wider physical space, but also means 90% fewer pixels to work with. By all accounts, it should be a disaster.
However, Nintendo pulled it off. Mario Maker can’t work under these limitations, but the editing process is better… though you might want to avoid playing on a regular 3DS for the best experience. (Ignore my previous customer’s advice. XL is the way to go for this game.) Here you’ll find some clever interface options, like the ability to scroll backwards through the item tables. Work individually to display parts of the editing space.

Overall, Super Mario Maker offers the same editing capabilities and interface ideas on the 3DS as the Wii U, with Mario Paint-like animations and transfers. You’ll find that every platforming experience you got on the Wii U carries over here, and creating awesome levels is like riding a bike. It took me a while to get up to speed on the skill levels when this game first came out, but I jumped right in and hit some pretty solid levels here. (I’ll share them so you can try them yourself, but, well…)
However, while the original concept remains intact at the console’s launch, Nintendo has completely gutted everything around it. This isn’t a quick port, it’s a reworking of the concept of Mario Maker and how its ideas are expressed.
How the Wii U game starts for a first player: You can play directly from the title screen, but after going through two screens you run out of the arena and the game will walk you through the process. assemble the designs to achieve the goal. It’s very sleek and portable, allowing for the intuitive nature of Mario games and a great controller set up to do the heavy lifting for you.
The 3DS version does not do this. But it goes right into the talky, didactic Nintendo style. The game begins with several dialogue tutorials with detailed instructions and tons of padding in the form of an argument between design consultant Mary O. and a pigeon named Yamamura. . You can leave the tutorials after you’ve completed a few things and move on to a more serious editing mode, but the tutorial’s simple learning method has been completely abandoned. I want to know the reason behind the change – trial? Is the 3DS a concern for young people? Is it Nintendo’s lack of belief that players are smart enough to figure things out on their own?

In any case, the new guidelines (although very complicated) offer some very good advice.
