Staedtler is a German company and I’m sure everyone knows the name. Staedtler makes a lot of beautiful stationary and worldwide, millions of people around the world have used Staedtler products at one time or another.
The Ergosoft barrel is triangular, which seems difficult to hold, but I personally find this barrel shape more natural than round or hexagonal. The triangular shape forces the fingers to hold the pencil, as we’ve all been taught. I’m not saying this is the right way to hold a pencil, it’s the way we’re taught.

The Staedtler Ergosoft has a barrel made of wood, however there is a softness to the touch, not sure that the wooden barrel is covered with a soft plastic varnish, regardless of the material, it is very comfortable.
There are no pigment names printed on the barrel or on the color chart that I’ve seen, so it’s best to make your own color with a pencil. There is a designated area on the pencil barrel where you can print your child’s name before sending them to school, which I think is a great feature; As a parent myself, I know how many things disappear when kids go back to school.
Another amazing feature of this pencil, although not directly related to the pencil, is the pencil case. One or two pencils I’ve looked at recently had similar packaging. The package is made of durable plastic, but when opened, it transforms a regular pencil case into a good stand. It is not only an aesthetic feature, but also very effective. Many adult coloring book artists use artist colored pencils, but before jumping into that giant pool, the Staedtler Ergosoft is a great place to start, and here’s why.
Staedtler Ergosoft is called for good reason, because the base has a soft and manageable shape. Most soft pencils are very fragile and break, but if there is an anti-break system, it is covered. The shape of the triangular barrel doesn’t hinder the sharpness of the pencil at all, the Ergosoft is the sharpest of the four sharpeners I’ve used, however I would say it takes a bit of hand sharpening, the first few turns when sharpening the pencil. new you can feel the sharpness trying to hold the pencil. In the UK, a pack of 12 costs £6 and a pack of 24 around £17. $11 for a pack of 12 in the US and $17 for a pack of 24, and finally in Europe, the Staedtler Ergosoft 12 pack costs €9 and the 24 pack costs €14.
I think the Staedtler Ergosoft is a great colored pencil for the price. Of course, you won’t be able to do high quality colored pencil art commissions with these, but for their intended audience, I think the Ergosoft is a great pencil. I also believe that if Ergosoft and similar pencils are used to introduce children to the art of colored pencils, as opposed to free pencils that come with children’s coloring books, then we can see more brightly colored pencils adorning the artists’ galleries.
