Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: Still Worth It In 2023?

While the crack in the screen is noticeable, it does not hinder the viewing experience, although the 22:9 aspect ratio is unusual. The panel also supports HDR10+ and has a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits, making it perfect for outdoor viewing. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 also has a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED screen on the outside, which is slightly larger than its predecessor. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 also has a cover display that can be used to reply to messages, make calls or set alarms. You can also add a widget to the cover screen and control your music from apps like Spotify and YouTube Music. However, the biggest highlight of the second screen is its ability to be used as a viewfinder, allowing you to take selfies with the main camera. When it comes to performance, Samsung makes no concessions. Galaxy Z Flip 4 is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. This chip comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Snapdragon chip here does most of the heavy lifting, ensuring smooth multitasking and a seamless gaming experience. This chip easily handles the latest game titles without any problems, although the phone tends to heat up a bit after more than 30 minutes of gaming. However, this applies to heavy duty titles such as Diablo Immortal and Apex Legends Mobile. Compared to other flagship smartphones like the iQOO 9T and OnePlus 10T, the Z Flip 4 falls short due to the lack of space for cooling. Overall, the performance of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 definitely feels like a worthy flagship.
Not much has changed on the camera front, with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 opting to install dual rear cameras, with a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, dual pixel PDAF and OIS and a 12 MP, f/2.2 ultrawide. Snapper has a viewing angle of 123 degrees. On the front, you get a 10 MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture. You can shoot 4K video at up to 60fps on the back, though the frame rate drops to 30fps with the front-facing camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 sees subtle camera improvements compared to its predecessor. However, the biggest highlight here is the addition of Nightgraphy from the Galaxy S22 series, which greatly improves night photography. While the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s camera isn’t flagship-level, it’s still impressive and reliable in most situations. In addition, the ability to use the main camera for selfies just sweetens the pot. The standard 3,700 mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Flip 4 may not sound like much, but it’s 10 percent larger than the cell phone in the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Definitely a step in the right direction! But this is still not enough to squeeze out a full day on a single charge under heavy use. However, I feel that the battery life of the Z Flip 4 is better than its predecessor. Despite not being able to last all day, the battery life Samsung got out of this model is pretty impressive. The same cannot be said about charging – 25W wired fast and 15W wireless fast charging. And then there is the lack of adaptability to combat.
The Z Flip 4 runs Android 12 out of the box with Samsung’s OneUI interface on top. The interface is not as clean as stock Android and looks a little cluttered but brings many features and adjust The Flip 4 also offers a seamless UI experience and runs almost any app like a regular phone. At first glance, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a great smartphone. The upgrade here is quite important. There’s a new flagship chipset, a strong and powerful LTPO display, better speakers, better cameras and a bigger battery. And Samsung has done all this while making the device lighter and more durable. If you’re looking for a foldable smartphone in 2022 without breaking the bank, the Z Flip 4 is worth considering. However, it still seems that ‘style’ has replaced ‘utility’ as the main theme of the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
