The iPhone 12 Pro Max also has a quad-lens camera, but the specs are completely different. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery, dwarfing the 3,687mAh battery in the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
That said, we’ve found that you can get through a day with a Samsung phone at default settings, and if you bump up the resolution and use a higher 120Hz refresh rate, it gets out of hand quickly.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro Max comfortably lasted a day in our tests, but wasn’t likely to stretch to two. So the two phones are broadly similar on this front, but if you want to use all the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s bells and whistles, you’ll need to reach for a faster charger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Both phones support fast charging and wireless charging, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra supports Wireless PowerShare – which lets you use it to charge other gadgets wirelessly. However, neither phone actually comes with a charger in the box.

Both of these phones are very powerful, as you’d expect, although the exact specs are different. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has a Snapdragon 888 chipset (if you’re in the US) or an Exynos 2100 (in most regions), while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has an A14 Bionic. All three are top of their range.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra has an additional 12GB of RAM in the 128GB and 256GB models, while the 512GB model has 16GB of RAM. On the other hand the iPhone 12 Pro Max only has 6GB of RAM, regardless of which model you buy (128GB, 256GB or 512GB) the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the fastest phone, so we won’t read too much into it.
