Samsung wasted no time in guiding viewers through its 5G-enabled Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) smartphone during the live stream. Among other things, Samsung says it will continue to release fan editions of its flagship models over the next few years as a way to give back to its fans.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is physically similar to the regular S20 model. A notable difference from the S20’s business design is the color choice and finish of the Galaxy S20 FE, which offers six different swatches in a colorful Haze finish with reduced gloss.
The Galaxy S20 FE uses a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED flat FHD+ display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The centralized punch-hole camera on the front panel returns. For comparison, the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra had 6.2-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.9-inch screens, respectively. This puts the S20 FE’s screen size between the S20 and S20+.
Like the regular S20 model, the Galaxy S20 FE also features a triple rear camera setup. The primary camera is a 12MP camera with an aperture of f/1.8 with Dual Pixel technology and OIS. The included lens is a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a field of view of 123 and an aperture of f/2.2. Lastly, the 3x optical zoom telephoto lens has an output of 8MP, an aperture of f/2.4, and uses PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus). These shooters also offer 30x space zoom. The punch-hole front camera is a 32MP shooter with improved selfie features. Other photo software tricks like Single Take Super Steady are also included in the Galaxy S20 FE, so Samsung fans are still getting the most out of the Fan Edition.

According to Samsung, the S20 FE chipset is “identical to the rest of the Galaxy S20 series.” Users here may recall that Samsung has launched Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the phone globally. However, the Galaxy S20 FE in Singapore comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. What’s also certain is the S20 FE’s 5G connectivity.
The Galaxy S20 FE comes in two storage configurations – 128GB and 256GB, with the latter variant available in Singapore. It also features expandable storage via MicroSD card and has a water resistance rating of IP68. The Galaxy S20 FE’s battery is 4,500 mAh and supports various fast charging profiles such as Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 USB PD 3.0, AFC, and QC 2.0. It is equipped with key flagship components such as NFC, optical fingerprint sensor, and AKG-tuned stereo speakers. The phone comes with Android 10 as standard.
In short, users in Singapore can expect key differences between the regular Galaxy S20 and the S20 FE. The latter will have a slightly larger display, slightly larger battery capacity, dual internal storage as standard, and a Snapdragon chipset instead of the Exynos variant. .

The new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is the fourth phone in the S line this year. That doesn’t include the two Note 20 phones and the slew of A-series phones Samsung has released this year. It may seem like you need a spreadsheet, an accountant, and an actuary to figure out which product has the right features and price for you.

Fortunately, most Samsung S-series and Note phones have a lot of good things about them, including fast processors, good build quality, nice screens, and decent cameras. That’s not to say you can’t go wrong, but the S20 FE retains enough of the core ‘flagship’ parts to make it great value at $699.
It’s also proof positive that if Samsung wants to change phones quickly, they can do so. Development began shortly after the first three S20 phones were announced in March 2020, when it became clear that the economy would be hit hard by the pandemic.
But the Galaxy S20 FE doesn’t feel rushed. It contains high-quality components that will satisfy you, while cheaper parts won’t detract much from the experience.
The Galaxy S20 FE is built around a 6.5-inch 1080p OLED display. It’s a completely flat screen with bezels that are totally fine, but more noticeable than on other S20 devices.

The fact that the screen is ‘only’ 1080p doesn’t matter at this size either. What you get in return is a high refresh rate of 120Hz, which makes scrolling smoother and makes some games look better. I’m really glad to see this feature on a $700 phone. Especially since Samsung strangely left this feature out of the more expensive Galaxy Note 20.
Samsung stands by its claims about the colors and vibrancy of this screen. That basically means it’s a bit daunting. Fortunately, you can alleviate this by finding a “natural” screen mode.
However, the hardware element most likely to receive criticism is the back of the phone. It’s plastic, but don’t be fooled. The phone still feels solid and solid overall. Samsung also offers it in six colors: Navy Blue, Lavender, Mint, Red, White, and Orange. They are all ‘cloud colors’. In Samsung terms, this means it has a matte finish.
The S20 FE is a bit squarer than the other S20 phones, but it still feels like it belongs in the family. It’s well made and my only real hardware issue is the chrome ring surrounding the punch hole selfie camera. It’s constantly bathed in light, which is distracting and completely unnecessary. Samsung also does this on some A series phones and I don’t understand it.

It supports wireless charging and fast charging, but the charger in the box doesn’t have enough power to charge quickly. The 4,500mAh battery is plenty large for a phone of this size. During testing, it lasted up to two days with moderate use. As long as you don’t do anything that drains the battery, you should get about 6 hours of total screen time.
Samsung had to cut costs somewhere, and the cameras are one of them. But I don’t miss anything Samsung dropped. The S20 FE has three standard 12-megapixel sensors instead of one of Samsung’s new high-megapixel ‘ultra’ sensors.
This means that it will be equipped with wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto cameras. All three of you take good pictures under good conditions. When it comes to night mode, we’re impressed with Samsung’s improvements. The S20 FE can’t do that.
The battle with the Pixel or iPhone 11 Pro is close. The video is also exactly what you’d expect. It’s just average in terms of quality. Unlike other S20 devices, the FE cannot shoot 8K, so there is no significant loss.
Unveiling Samsung Galaxy S20 Fe: Fan Favorite Features At An Accessible Price Point
So the camera holds up, but it’s not terribly noticeable. That’s where I’m leaving, but there are some long-standing grievances that need to be hammered home. Samsung is still sticking to three bad camera habits. None of them are bad enough to be deal-breakers, but they’re worth keeping in mind.
First, and most importantly, Samsung still tends to overdo things when it comes to brightening and vibrating photos. I think this is probably what many people prefer, but in some lighting conditions it all looks a bit neon to my eyes. You can adjust some of this using Pro mode and even smooth out some of it in post-production.
Second, Samsung continues to release 30x zoom lenses. Technically it’s just a result
