The Samsung Galaxy A52 is the latest addition to the company’s popular A series. With the slogan ‘Awesome for All’, the company is trying to target the new A family across all age groups. Younger people get a higher refresh rate display and a better processor, while a more mature crowd gets a bigger battery and a better camera.

Starting price Rs. 26,499, is the Samsung Galaxy A52 offer good enough? Let’s find out in this review:

Samsung Galaxy A52 Vs Google Pixel 4a 5g

The Samsung Galaxy A52 sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor paired with up to 8GB of RAM. It packs in 128GB of onboard storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card. The smartphone runs One UI 3.1 based on Google’s Android 11 operating system. All these are powered by a 4,500mAh battery.

On the optical front, the Samsung Galaxy A52 has a quad-camera setup at the back with a 64-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel macro lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, the phone comes with a 32-megapixel shooter on the front that sits inside the punch hole.

Samsung has designed the Galaxy A52 as a funky smartphone made for millennials. The handset comes in four different color options. While the black and white color variants look more subtle, the blue and violet colors stand out. Unlike the Galaxy A51, it doesn’t get any color transitions or special effects. Instead, it only highlights the pastel colors on the back.

The downside I feel with the new design is that the back feels thinner now. The back panel can be felt to go inwards by pressing in the middle area. The price of the phone is Rs. The company may be trying to provide a better experience here as there is more than that. 20,000 marks.

Moreover, both the back panel and the frame of the smartphone are made of plastic. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it helps keep the phone weight down. The Galaxy A52 feels very light in the hand.

As for placement, the Galaxy A52 uses the power button and volume rocker on the right edge, while the left edge is clean. The top edge of the handset houses the SIM tray and the second microphone. The bottom edge houses the USB Type-C port, main microphone, speaker grill and 3.5mm headphone jack (yes, in 2021!).

As for the display, the Galaxy A52 sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel. It delivers bright colors and deep blacks. It helps in enhancing the movie watching experience on smartphones. Furthermore, the display is bright enough and I had no problem using it even in direct sunlight.

The Galaxy A52 gets its power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. It is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. This combination provides enough power to provide a smooth user experience. As long as I use the device, I have no problem doing everyday tasks like sending messages, listening to music, watching TV shows, etc. I also have many apps open in the background and I don’t notice much lag.

However, if you are looking for a smartphone to play graphics-intensive games, you can switch to the likes of OnePlus Nord or Realme X7 Pro 5G.

When it comes to user interface, Samsung is very mature. With the new Android 11-based OneUI 3.1, the company offers various features along with many customization options while keeping the performance under control. Animations feel much faster and the overall experience feels much smoother compared to OneUI 2.5. Also, the company has promised 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security patches for the Galaxy A52.

This time, Samsung has opted for a 64MP main camera sensor with higher resolution on the back. For reference, the Galaxy A51’s predecessor came with a 48MP unit. Along with the new main camera, the company has kept a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro lens and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 was able to take good photos in bright daylight conditions. The dynamic range is very wide and it provides a lot of detail in the picture. As expected from a Samsung smartphone, colors aren’t very accurate as the phone tries to make the colors pop a little. Finally, the camera UI can focus on objects and people very quickly.

In low lighting conditions, the Galaxy A52 offers an average photo shooting experience. The phone captures a lot of detail, but images suffer from noise. A night mode provided in the camera UI boosts the brightness in low-light images.

As for selfies, the Galaxy A52 has narrow and wide modes for single and group selfies respectively. Both these modes offer flexibility. The selfie shooting experience is great on a smartphone, especially in good lighting conditions.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 is backed by an affordable 4,500 mAh battery. While this is a 500mAh increase from the Galaxy A51’s 4,000mAh battery, it feels on the low end when compared to the Galaxy A32, which comes with a 5,000mAh battery.

During my usage, the phone managed to last a full working day before I had to plug in the charger. My typical work day consists of a lot of texting, a few phone calls, taking pictures, and more. When charging is needed, the included 15W charger can charge the device from 0-100% in just 2 hours. The device supports 25W fast charging and it would be nice to see a 25W fast charger in the box.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 is a great package and offers significant improvements over its predecessor. It has drawbacks like plastic body and bland design. But it makes up for it by offering a lightweight smartphone with a great display, a decent set of cameras and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

You will pay Rs. If looking for a smartphone within. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 price band, the Galaxy A52 could be a formidable competitor. However, if you want more original performance or want to get 5G now, you can consider the OnePlus Nord.

Some of the category winners in this comparison may seem a bit lopsided, but that’s due to some odd hardware pairings in the range. At first glance, the A32 5G costs the same at $499 until you notice that the Samsung Galaxy A32 is much cheaper. However, the A32 5G has a larger display at a lower resolution and lower refresh rate (60Hz vs 90Hz), plus it has 4GB of RAM while the A32 has 6GB.

It’s the same story when you move to the other end of the spectrum: the 256GB A52 5G model costs the same as the A72, the latter lacks 5G but has the same 256GB internal storage and 8GB RAM. However, price is the ultimate deciding factor here, with the future-proof A32 5G coming out on top.
