Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is finally getting its first DLC map pack tomorrow for PS4 and a new patch is expected to hit this version of the game alongside the DLC pack. However, Treyarch has surprised fans of its latest first-person shooter by releasing a patch ahead of schedule.

The new Call of Duty Black Ops 3 PlayStation 4 Update 1.05 is around 9GB in size and is now available for download in all regions. Treyarch’s approach is to give each specialist their own skill and weapon, Bunting explained. This decision changes the way Call of Duty competitive multiplayer is played.

The bane pictured above is the callsign of fighter Donnie Walsh, who has been described as stubborn and fearless. He is armed with a pair of gravity spikes which, when charged, can strike the ground, creating an area-of-effect attack that kills nearby enemies. Ruin’s special ability is Overdrive, which gives him a temporary speed boost. Bunting described him as being “in a rush”.
Seraph is the nickname of Zhen Zhen, the fictional adopted daughter of a high-ranking military officer in the game. She wields a large-caliber pistol called the Annihilator, which Bunting says was “for vaporizing people.” Her special skill is called Combat Focus and accelerates her streak’s earning potential.
Brazilian Special Forces member Allesandra Castillo is nicknamed the Outrider. Her unique weapon is a bow and arrow called a Sparrow, which shoots explosive bolts. Her special ability is Vision Pulse, a ping that reveals the location of nearby enemies.
Finally, there’s Reaper, a battle robot designed by the game’s Coalescence Corporation. This advanced military robot can transform its hand into a mini-weapon called a scythe. Her special ability, Glitch, allows players to “return” to a previous location—sort of a time travel/teleportation move and similar to another hero-based shooter character.

When players choose their specialist before a match, they must choose whether they want to use their special ability or their unique weapon; they cannot have both. And unlike loadouts, which players can swap on the fly, choosing your specialist and his special ability or weapon is more of a chore. Like streaks, players cannot change them until their next game.
Bunting said that the Specialist’s abilities will recharge approximately every four minutes, even if the player isn’t killing or completing objectives. He said the average player gets these special abilities every two minutes, and skilled players can get them in less time.
