The Salvation Army can help low-income families, including families of inmates, with holiday meals, toys and clothing. They offer several holiday programs, including the popular Angel Tree and the Adopt-a-Family program.
This year, The Salvation Army is partnering with Walmart to #RescueChrsitmas to help more than 2.6 million children in need each year through the Angel Tree program. Christmas trees are placed in Walmart stores across the country through the Angel Tree Program. Each tree is covered with a sign that provides gifts for each child of age and request. Shoppers can pick up tags, purchase items and make donations before leaving the store.

To get help through this program, you should contact your local Salvation Army branch to find out what services are available in your area. You can find your local Salvation Army by searching their website for your zip code or city/state.
Adoption programs are a little different. It does not include names hanging on trees. Instead, the entire family is adopted and can receive donations of gifts, toys, food, cleaning products, toiletries, and more. Donors can even donate gift cards!
If you visit their website, you can look for your local Salvation Army chapter. Some local agencies begin registration as early as October, so contact your local Legion Community Center as soon as possible!
AmeriCorp Seniors Organizations sometimes host High Angel Trees, which can help low-income seniors receive gifts.
University Conducts Annual Christmas Gift Drives
Catholic Charities is a nationwide faith-based organization that provides holiday assistance. We have found that they offer free Christmas gifts and free holiday meals in many parts of the country, but cannot guarantee that they will offer this service in your area. Contact your local chapter (or select your country from the list below) for more information.
Lions Clubs International is a non-political service organization with branches around the world. Many of their clubs offer vacation assistance programs for low-income residents and/or children. These programs spread free holiday cheer with Christmas gifts, food and company.
The organization helps connect donors with children in need of support. They connect with a variety of community agencies that serve low-income children. You must be referred by a partner agency to receive a gift from them. You must find a partner agency in your area to receive a gift from this program.
The Christmas Child Movement is a type of Samaritan’s Bag. This organization collects millions of gifts in shoeboxes, which are then sent around the world to low-income children in over 160 countries! Donations are sent to local churches, which then distribute them to children.
Adopt An Angel Day’
Military Families Can Get Christmas Help! The organization provides holiday meals to military families, as well as a holiday toy drive. Donations are collected from local tree stores in November and December and then distributed to military families in the area.
This Reddit sub is said to be “the happiest place on Reddit”. This community of over 28,000 people raises funds to help thousands of people every holiday season. This is an incredible community.
Of course, you have to follow the rules to get help. One of the rules is that you must register at this link before asking for Christmas help on the forum. Registration usually opens in early November each year, so check back for updates on or around November 1, 2021.
Remember that they do not give money or gift cards. Only non-monetary gifts are offered. You should update your post when you receive a gift so they know who was helped.
Ministries Finds Christmas Gifts For More Than 2,000 Children In Need
St. Vincent de Paul is another faith-based organization that helps low-income families across the United States. Through their various organizations, St. Vincent de Paul is known for helping with utilities, moving costs, clothing, food, basic needs, baby items, Thanksgiving meals, and Christmas assistance. Contact your local St. Vincent de Paul for more information about their Christmas assistance programs.
For toys, visit the Sea Toys page and register. You will be prompted to enter your country and select your locale. This will take you to the “Toys” page for local toys, where you can receive more instructions.
Application instructions and application opening times may vary, so please prepare as early as possible.
For example, in Washington, eligible families are directed to visit a Washington State DSHS office to apply. All other applicants are encouraged to reach their local coordinator by calling the phone number. Our local organization will begin accepting applications at the end of November 2021, but many will start earlier.

We’ve reported on the Elf program for years… In 2019, the USPS expanded the program nationwide. He is now known as USPS Operation Santa.
When your child sends a letter to Santa via USPS, a volunteer will open and scan the letter. They will be uploaded to the website, but family names and addresses are being redacted. Volunteers can print letters and coded address labels. They purchase the requested item and then ship the item with a coded label. You can learn more about this process here.

Something You Want, Something You Need … Christmas Gift Inspiration
Many readers have asked me if Make-a-Wish provides Christmas assistance to low-income families. This has been echoed by other sites.
I reached out directly to Make-a-Wish, but there is nothing on their website that says they offer general holiday assistance to low-income families. Make Up Wishes offers an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience for seriously ill children (ages 2-18).
The Christmas Tree Project accepts requests from all over the country and fulfills each request to the best of its ability. However, they cannot guarantee that they will be able to help every family. Do it early for your best chance of success!
This organization offers a unique way to help this Christmas! They partner with Home Depot to distribute Christmas trees to needy families. To receive a free Christmas tree from this program, you must be living in a participating state and must be sent by a partner organization.
Free Christmas Gifts And Food In Dutchess County, Ny 2022
Soldier Trees provides free, farm-raised Christmas trees to American military families from all branches of the U.S. military. These trees have been delivered to 70 military bases in the US and abroad!
The organization has some exciting announcements for 2021! They have partnered with several retail locations that promise to be the “Official Tree of Soldiers” location. These outlets encourage people to buy trees and donate to the program. It makes donating so much easier and really helps this organization make a bigger impact on families who need a little holiday help!
