Lego Dimensions Batman Xbox 360 – There was a moment when Marty McFly, Chell from Portal, and the Witch of the West were fighting a giant Joker robot on top of a building in Springfield when I stopped and wondered what was going on. But after that, I was absolutely blown away watching how it all unfolded.
LEGO Dimensions is the first developer of Traveler’s Tales in the toy-to-life genre, a natural fit for the physical versions of the LEGO box. While the gameplay itself is still young, the personality that runs through each world is the reason you keep coming back.

This is the way to immerse yourself in the kitchen: through this 10-hour camp, you will explode the setting of classic films like Back to the Future and popular comics like Batman to amazing games like Portal. Just like in the fascinating LEGO Movie, these conflicts are fun, creative and full of funny, quirky interactions. Small moments, like how Homer Simpson is confused by the fact that Scooby-Doo is a talking dog, are Dimensions’ greatest strength.

With the starter pack, you’ll be playing with Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie throughout camp. While there’s a decent amount of gameplay inside, you’ll need to log in and buy additional packs to unlock some of the open worlds. Roaming around the fully accessible city of Springfield, filled with a bunch of funny heads, or walking through Aperture Science with original voice actors and some really cool Valve-esque puzzles is a treat, but not a must.
The love and care that went into packing these worlds with beautiful, clever titles – dropping the map in Oz takes you to a sepia-toned version of the tornado that hit Kansas – makes exploring these places a joy. It’s even better when Dimensions brings the two universes together, like when Sauron from The Lord of the Rings rampages through Superman’s Metropolis, or when serious LEGO Batman meets idiot Batman from The LEGO Movie. Pixar’s incredible sense of humor can make a child laugh while cracking great jokes aimed at adults, and it’s kept me laughing my whole life. The funniest moment was when Batman goes to Oz and is convinced that the Scarecrow from the old movie is the same Scarecrow that terrorized Gotham City.
The problem with Dimensions relying too heavily on jokes from its range of influence is that if you’re not familiar with a particular movie, show, or game, all of the pieces fall flat. For example, when I spent half an hour fighting a series of Ninjago bosses, I didn’t appreciate the humor and instead, nothing got in the way of noticing how easy it is to fight and solve puzzles in Borderlands. Much of the fun is directly related to your love for a particular movie or game and your ability to understand and appreciate deep-cut references.
What you’re doing every moment will feel familiar to anyone who’s played LEGO games or the last dozen or so – not bad, but it’s gotten diluted over the years. Destroy everything in front of you, build a bunch of crazy things and collect millions of bolts that act as currency.

The biggest change with the invite, though, is the physical nature of the toys and the portal you connect to your console. Any LEGO Dimensions character or item you place in one of the seven portal locations is transferred into the game world. Note: In fact, the lower disc is so important (which is scary, because it is easy for a child to lose it). The characters are regular LEGO guys.
The dimensions quickly start throwing simple but boring puzzles at you that require you to carry toys through a portal. Bosses will trap your character in a power point and force you to move that figure to another space on the board. Similarly, some puzzles require you to place certain characters in certain locations to imbue them with basic energy needed to put out fires or charge batteries in the environment.
While I really appreciate this idea in theory, it often doesn’t work for me in practice. The puzzles did not present a mental challenge to me, but became physical exercises in moving the toy to a new location of a certain color. They weren’t even deep enough to give that “hack!” the moment you start thinking about a problem in a new way and instead just act as a barrier between me and the next piece of much-appreciated humor or creativity.
Packing its own world full of great characters and fun references, LEGO Dimensions’ kitchen-kitchen mode always leaves me with a big goofy grin on my face. While the puzzles that required physically moving the pieces around got boring, exploring multiple locations based on my childhood favorites was really fun. The worlds collide is clever, the references are handled carefully and the story is really clever.
