Justice League Zack Snyder Review – A great action ending and a standout performance for Ray Fisher’s cyborg is the perfect reason for non-fans to check out this excellent assembly cut of the film.

That’s a 1.44:1 response ratio for theaters and theaters in late 2017, and there are some big changes in the last 95 minutes. It’s still the same “Bruce teams up to stop Steppenwolf from using the Mother Boxes to destroy Earth”. The biggest change Joss Whedon brought to the film wasn’t new footage, but a ruthless edit (mostly ordered by Warner Bros. executives) to cut the footage Snyder had left over from the 118-minute feature film.

This version plays like an assembly set or a working print with $70 million worth of finished effects. Almost every scene is fatally drawn out and done at half speed. This is especially true in the first half, which consists of endless dialogue-free montages, past and present descriptive monologues, and catch-ups for those who haven’t seen it.

. This has little impact on the current narrative and little character interaction to justify it. Instead of Connie Nelson frantically ordering her Amazon sisters to seal Steppenwolf’s cutie mark in a tomb, we get a heated debate. Billy Crudup’s Prison Talk covers (and rediscovers) the same ground as Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen at a slower pace. Diana’s description of “Steppenwolf History” becomes a Darkseid-centric version.

Much of the extra exposition and scale comes through flashbacks, foreshadowing, and interesting details. With one major exception (which I’ll discuss later), there’s surprisingly little “new” footage for Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, or Amy Adams’ Lois Lane. Kersey Clemons (probably as Iris Allen) has a single, mostly dialogue-free scene where she looks beautiful and saves herself from a car accident. Maybe he will get letters and name

. We get a mix of familiar scenes (Bruce travels to recruit Arthur, Diana stops a terrorist massacre, etc.) and “same, but different” introductory beats for our heroes, not just some great musical performances. The music interface doesn’t work, but I appreciate the effort and associated chutzpah.

Interestingly, “the world went to hell after Superman’s death” and (partially due to the overlong first half) there is little danger as the threat of Apokolips approaches. There’s less of Bruce’s suicidal guilt, Diana’s fear of leadership/isolation, or Victor’s anger at his father than in the broken “Wheden Cut.”

(2017) Oh, and in addition to the CGI blood of the moment, some Peter Jackson-style battlefield carnage, and the added danger of the aforementioned museum takeover (we’re watching the child hostages find out they’re going to be killed, they tear them apart), it’s on to the dramatic cut. Much lighter, less sad and less tragic (but still funny at times).

What’s surprising is how much the film looks like a traditional Zack Snyder film, especially how small it is at the beginning. Yes, watching a movie formatted for IMAX is polished and highlighted, even if it doesn’t load on an HDTV or computer monitor. However, it was the dynamic energy and apocalyptic myth-making that defined it

Story in 140 minutes. Running four hours, this version is the definition of excitement, especially given how many of the “new” scenes aren’t new but extended.

Movie/Miniseries/Etc. Finally, Chapter 4 (at 111 minutes) picks up some momentum. The pacing is still provided, but the song collection and sequential order are sparse for enjoyable character interactions. Of the two major developments, the film’s action climax is excellent. The team still flies to Russia to stop Steppenwolf and a resurrected Superman (pet peeve: I’ve never liked the black suit). Broad strokes often play out, but the action is bigger, more varied, coherent and polished, and each superhero is given multiple heroic strokes that make sense of their strengths and personalities. It may not be as elaborate as “Battle of New York,” but it’s close enough to what happened

Second, if there’s any reason to watch it (or at least skip it) beyond curiosity, it’s for those who want it.

The movie where the cyborg (even) is the central character. He, like most champions, is in the background for the first 110 minutes. His flashback/early montage scenes are less essential than Barry’s “rescue your favorite crush from danger” sequence (though at least they feature soothing vocals from Joe Morton). After the team organizes after their first fight, Ray Fisher’s Victor Stone becomes the central figure. He gets a clever cameo sequence (Fisher in human form travels to World War II Europe to explain how his mother’s boxes were lost and found), and his relationship with his father (Morton) takes on a different focus and is complete. .

Many post-directorial exchanges are different versions of existing scenes (Alfred and Bruce talking about an impending threat, Martha and Lois bonding in grief, etc.). However, the scene in the new Whedon cut actually focuses on the team “teaming up” the cyborgs and not…shocker…Batman. Absent the “responsibility > entertainment” conflict, I can understand Ray Fisher’s distaste for the script. Snyder deserves credit for the plane

The film focuses on a black superhero positioned as a modern day Superman. Fisher isn’t the first young actor to appear in a star-making franchise role, but I hope he gets second chances like Charlie Hunnam, Jai Courtney, Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer or Taylor Kitsch.

A film that lacks visual polish, ultimately diminishes. But it clearly wasn’t a commercial success ($659 million but on a $300 million rebuilding budget), and I can’t help but wonder if WB should have hired Joss Whedon or someone else (ie Murrow or Stewart Baird). It was allowed. ) alone cut a 140-minute version of Snyder’s four-hour cut, saving $100 million. There’s a workable movie in this ramble, mostly a pointless slow burn of world-building, Easter eggs and staggered poetry. Despite the off-screen accusations, Whedon deserves some credit for paring down the 243-minute definitive cut to a coherent 110-minute feature that still uses Snyder’s footage in some capacity.

Movies are often the same. A guilt-ridden Bruce and estranged Diana recruit Sociable Barry, while a numb Arthur and a shocked Victor initially reject the call but show up when it becomes personal. The Big Darkseid Battle Scene Flashback is an extended flashback version of the Steppenwolf star fight scene and Superman returns at the end. The difference was the arrangement of the extra-large universe related to the two theories of freaks or freaks and Snyder’s future.

This movie, no matter how much drama cuts from what came before, means to me that Snyder was on the right track and that WB could go with what they had. Now having a mega budget is a big thing

The miniseries focuses on black superheroes with a good ending. Additionally, the $70 million spent on the project helped keep businesses running in post-production houses after the Covid shutdown. But like the new line, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a huge improvement over the theatrical cut, and we’ve got great characters, special effects and action scenes with Tom Hulkenberg’s musical score making it feel truly epic. It’s very long and I actually took time off work to watch it, but if you enjoyed Man of Steel and Batman v Superman you’ll love it…if you don’t…well, you might not.
