So take note and let’s have fun in this blind fight. As always, no processing is done except for resizing and combining the images into a collage for a faster preview. The photos are labeled A and B and the answer can be found at the end of this article.

Blind Camera Comparison Video: Iphone 12 Pro Max Vs. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

We’re kidding about the blind test! All photos labeled “A” were taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, while photos labeled “B” were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. 😝

When you look closely, the main lens of the Galaxy S21 Ultra appears to be wider than the iPhone. This is evident in the daytime photo. However, excessive highlights and slightly overexposed photos result.

Meanwhile, the iPhone’s night and low-light photos are brighter, but in a good way. Although, the photo from the train platform produces a brighter photo for the S21 Ultra, while the iPhone has better contrast. The difference is most likely caused by the environment and the light source.

For a zoom lens, the S21 Ultra’s telephoto lens tends to take blurry but warmer photos. The iPhone 12 Pro Max remains consistent with its previous iterations: less loss of detail while stabilizing photos when zoomed in β€” something the Galaxy series struggles with especially if you have shaky hands.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Vs Iphone 12 Pro Max: Premium Comparison

Is there any more reason to compare both flagship smartphones when they’re at their best? The answer is yes. We spend a lot of money to get the best smartphone in the market and we deserve a phone that fits our lifestyle, preferences and fulfills our needs from one device.

If you care about detail, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a good handle on preserving detail, as shown in both day and night photos. It’s perfect for playing photography and learning the art of post-processing, as it’s easier to get creative and change the results with balanced images.

If you want photos that are ready for almost anything (and don’t go through the hassle of filling in VSCO filters or Lightroom presets), then the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the smartphone of choice.

200MP Camera Shootouts Camera Shootout: Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Redmi Note 12 Pro+ Does a 200MP Camera Really Matter?

Just when we thought having a 108 megapixel camera was overkill, Samsung pushed the boundaries and achieved the unimaginable with a 200 MP camera.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Vs Iphone 12: Which Should You Buy?

The Korean giant created some buzz when they announced a teaser of a massive panel of cats photographed on their upcoming 200-megapixel camera in May 2022. They then followed up with the announcement of the ISOCELL HP3 sensor just a month later.

Two months later, Motorola announced the first smartphone with a 200-megapixel camera through the China-exclusive X30 Pro, followed by the Xiaomi 12T Pro. Both phones replace the first generation ISOCELL HP1 sensor.

In the end! Samsung started 2023 with a bang when they announced the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 200-megapixel camera based on the ISOCELL HP2 sensor. Then the 200-megapixel hype hit a low with the announcement of the Redmi Note 12 Pro + 5G – despite having an ISOCELL HPX sensor.

At the time of writing, the latest 200-megapixel smartphones are the realme 11 Pro + 5G and the HONOR 90 with the aforementioned ISOCELL HP3 sensor.

But I’m not here to bore you with a special sensor talk. You can go to this site (after reading my post) if you want a full explanation of the existing 200 megapixel Samsung sensor.

Out of my own curiosity, I tried to compare what it’s like to make full use of a flagship 200-megapixel camera versus a mid-range smartphone, and what makes one superior to the other (or vice versa).

We used and compared both the excellent Samsung and Redmi-dranger in this very special duel with the 200MP camera. But if you’re curious about the full camera specs of each phone, we’ve listed them for you:

We’re all here for one thing, and that’s the 200-megapixel camera on both phones. The only differentiator is the sensor size, nothing else.

Galaxy S21 Ultra Vs. Iphone 12 Pro Max: Which Takes Better Night Photos?

While playing around with their camera settings, I then realized two things. Although both phones have 200-megapixel cameras, each phone has its own limitations. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra can take JPG and RAW photos simultaneously through Expert RAW mode, but only up to 50 megapixels.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G can shoot either between 50 megapixels and 200 megapixels, but without the option to shoot RAW. The most likely culprit is the less powerful Mediatek Dimensity 1080 chipset based on the 6nm process (compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 4nm S23 Ultra processor).

With this gap, I then chose to limit my shooting options to just 50 megapixels in JPG format for fairness.

As with other camera comparisons on this site, all photos were taken without any changes other than resizing, tagging and collages for faster viewing. However, I have provided a specific link for each photo so everyone can see the full resolution and quality. Just don’t look at the EXIF or you won’t be surprised anymore.

Iphone 12 Pro Max Vs Samsung S21 Ultra

For the most part, most photos look close. But on closer inspection, both phones have a consistent image.

As with other comparisons we’ve done, Samsung is proven with its color-enhanced AI algorithm. The sky is bluer, the trees are greener, basically everything is on the warmer and more saturated side.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro + 5G, on the other hand, sticks to a more “natural” color calibration. Photos taken with this Redmi-dranger are also brighter. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a photo with a full amount of highlights and exposure – which also produces better HDR photos. The HP2 sensor clearly displays a better dynamic range than what the ISOCELL HPX sensor offers.

As I said in my previous session with the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro, the only major advantage I can see when using a 200 MP camera is the ability to keep all the details even when you crop the photo. But for most photographers, they barely crop at 50~100x because they already have the composition in mind before they even pull the shutter.

Iphone 13 Pro Max Vs Iphone 12 Pro Max Vs Galaxy S21 Ultra Camera Comparison Test And Review

After taking this follow-up camera shot, I still think the 200-megapixel camera sensor is more of a gimmick than the real deal, as both phones take a while (at least about 1.5 to 2 seconds) to deliver these photos in full resolution. For my needs, I want a fast camera – and having a 1-inch camera sensor is the answer to my previous smartphone camera issues.

At the end of the day, it still comes down to one’s preferences. If 200MP is a valuable feature to you and you prefer to shoot it RAW (no pun intended!), the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the best answer. That and including the recipe for better photo output.

But if you have a tighter budget but want to experience the goodness of the 200 megapixel camera still manufactured by Samsung, the Redmi Note 12 Pro + is not far from your choice. It might also be the cheapest 200MP camera smartphone you can buy right now.
