Iphone 12 Mini Storage Options – Apple released a total of four new iPhone 12 models in three different sizes. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro both have 6.1-inch screens, while the larger iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen; The largest for any iPhone model to date.
The smallest of the bunch, the $699 iPhone 12 Mini has a screen size of just 5.4 inches. Yes, it’s smaller than the iPhone SE, which has a 4.7-inch screen.
Iphone 12 Mini Storage Options
Apple sent me four iPhone 12 models to test. After using the iPhone 12 Pro, I decided to keep the iPhone 12 mini as my primary phone for about a week. And you know what? After the initial shock of the size on a smaller device, I found it to be just as good as the iPhone 12 Pro, except for two things: battery life and camera, but it’s still close.

I’m not going to focus on some aspects of the iPhone 12 Mini that overlap with the iPhone 12 Pro, such as 5G. Both phone experiences are the same for me — AT&T hasn’t rolled out 5G in southern Colorado. If you want more of my thoughts on 5G, read my iPhone 12 Pro review.
The entire iPhone 12 lineup uses the same flat-edge design, a pseudo throwback to the iPhone 4. On the far right, near the bottom, you’ll find a cutout that looks a lot like the Apple Pencil 2 charging pad on the iPad Pro and iPad Air. But it’s not for the pen, instead it’s a cutout for the mmWave 5G antenna. Only the top side button is used to wake and lock the phone. On the opposite side is Apple’s traditional mute key and volume up/down buttons.
Apple didn’t switch to USB-C ports on the iPhone 12, so you’ll find the Lightning port on the bottom of the phone again this year.
IPhone 12 Mini is available in Black, White, Blue, Green and Red colors. Storage options include 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. I wish Apple would make the starting storage capacity 128GB for non-Pro models, especially with all of Apple’s services like Arcade and TV+ downloadable content.
Iphone 12 Storage: Which Size Should You Buy?
As mentioned earlier, the 12 Mini has a 5.4-inch display. Apple is using Super Retina XDR displays across the entire iPhone 12 lineup, rather than limiting the arguably superior screens to the Pro models.
On the back of the 12 Mini, you’ll find two cameras. 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. Both cameras use Apple’s Deep Fusion technology to capture more detail, record HDR Dolby Vision 4K video and take photos in night mode.
The main feature of the Mini is, of course, its size. It measures 5.18 x 2.53 x 0.29 inches and weighs 4.76 ounces. In comparison, the 2020 version of the iPhone SE measures 5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 inches and weighs 5.22 ounces. Recall that the iPhone SE has a 4.7-inch screen, a home button and a large frame where the front camera and speaker are located.
The iPhone 12 Mini’s 5.4-inch display runs almost edge-to-edge, except for the top notch, which includes Apple’s Face ID-enabled TrueDepth camera system. Apple hasn’t talked about any speed improvements or Face ID changes, but the entire iPhone 12 lineup feels faster; Perhaps something that powers the A14 Bionic processor.

My favorite thing about the 12 Mini is that it fits easily in my pocket. More than once I found myself frantically searching my desk for the Mini, only to realize it was still in my pocket. But after using the iPhone 11 Pro Max last year, I’m used to knowing my phone is in my pocket — because it’s almost always ready to drop.
I try to avoid reading a review before I’ve thoroughly tested the device, but I still see headlines on Feedly or Twitter. So when I reviewed the iPhone 12 mini, I knew that battery life was a common complaint. It makes sense: The Mini is smaller, so it has a smaller battery, but it still powers Apple’s A14 Bionic processor and OLED display. And for the first few days, I was disappointed with the Mini’s battery life.
I would see the 20 percent alert appear around 5 o’clock and a few minutes later it would be ready to power off. After the second day of use, I checked the battery settings to see that there was extra drain due to a rogue app and the photos were using a lot of juice in the background.
After some further investigation, I realized that the Photos app was still trying to index my iCloud photo library — something that usually happens overnight when you charge your phone. When I plugged the Mini into the MagSafe charger that night, I opened the Photos app and pressed continue to make sure the process was finished while charging the phone.

At the end of the morning sync, battery life was the same as the iPhone 12 Pro. That means it will last me a full day of use, just barely. Battery life would be something I’d settle for with the Mini if I were traveling or away from home where charging isn’t easily accessible, but it’s not a deal breaker.
According to iFixit’s teardown, the 12 Mini has a 2,227 mAh battery, while the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a 2,815 mAh battery. The 12 mini is limited to 12W wireless charging via the MagSafe adapter, while other iPhone 12 models charge at 15W.
No matter which iPhone 12 model I buy, I use it as my primary camera.
When it comes to performance, it’s impressively fast and responsive, just like the iPhone 12 Mini Pro. But that’s not surprising, as the entire iPhone 12 series shares the same basic design inside and out.

The main difference between the four models is that the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 lack the lidar sensor and telephoto camera found on the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, and the former pair’s body is aluminum rather than stainless steel. As we have seen in the Pro models.
A consistent bug I’ve noticed across all four models is that often when I start typing in the Messages app, the first 10 keystrokes don’t show up for a second or two. I actually have to stop typing, wait for the phone to turn on, and then resume typing. If I leave the program for a while and come back, the rest of the conversation is fine. It’s a weird bug, but I hope Apple fixes it with an update.
Otherwise, the performance of the iPhone 12 Mini is the same as the 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.
Ultimately, the iPhone 12 mini isn’t for me because I want it to have the same camera versatility as the Pro models. However, the camera takes clear and sharp pictures that will please almost anyone.

Battery life should only be a concern if you’re someone who travels frequently or lives with your phone.
If you hate big phones and long for the day when the trend for bigger displays dies, the iPhone 12 Mini is for you. At the end of my test week, I found myself enjoying the pocket size of the Mini. I know I dream of the day when Apple makes a smaller iPhone with a triple camera array and a lidar sensor.
