Verizon has announced its latest 5G device – the long-awaited 5G hotspot, the Inseego 5G MiFi M1000. But the 5G MiFi M1000 is the latest proof that 5G won’t be cheap: the hotspot alone costs $649.99, before factoring in the monthly cost of data.

That’s a big improvement: The company’s current high-end LTE hotspot, the Jetpack MiFi 8800L, costs less than a third of the $199.99. Verizon offers a few ways to lower the price, such as a 24-month installment plan that breaks it down to $27.08 per month or a two-year service contract that drops the price to $499.99.
Verizon Launches Its First 5g Hotspot For $650
Unsurprisingly, data is also expensive: 5G data is only offered with Verizon’s Unlimited plan, which starts at $90 per month ($10 more per month than the LTE plan) and includes 50GB of 5G data (up to 3Mbps) and 15GB of LTE data before throttling. , Verizon now only offers downloads at 5G speeds — uploads will still be on LTE, but won’t count toward that 15GB limit.
Alternatively, if you already have a Verizon Unlimited smartphone plan, you can get service for the same 50GB 5G / 15GB LTE data pool on the 5G MiFi M1000 for $30 per month (device cost, of course), which is $10 more than the previous LTE-only offer.
The 5G MiFi M1000 marks the fifth 5G device from Verizon, joining the LG V50 ThinQ, Galaxy S10 5G, and Moto Z3 and Z4 (requires a 5G Moto Mod accessory to access the network).
Verizon also announced that St. Paul, Minnesota will be the fifth city to join Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis and Providence. As with other rollouts, 5G service in St. Paul will be limited to certain areas of the city (specifically, the downtown, lowertown, and West Seventh neighborhoods, along with some major landmarks like the Minnesota Museum of American Art).
