How To Find Out If You’ve Ever Been Photographed And Saved On Google Maps Street View
Due to factors beyond our control (weather, road closures, etc.), it is always possible that our cars will not work or that there will be minor changes. Also note that when the list refers to a specific city, it may include smaller cities and places that are within driving distance.

Now that we’ve assembled the images, it’s time to display them all on your screen. Here’s a sneak peek at what our team has been up to behind the scenes.
First, we have to actually drive around and take photos of the locations to show up in Street View. We pay close attention to many factors, including the weather and population density of different areas, to determine when and where we can collect the best possible images.
To match each image on the map with its geographic location, we combine the signals from the car’s sensors that measure GPS, speed, and direction. This helps us reconstruct the exact path of the car and also tilt and straighten the images if necessary.
To avoid gaps in 360-degree photos, adjacent cameras take slightly overlapping images, and then the photos are ‘merged’ into a single 360-degree image. We then use special image processing algorithms to reduce ‘seams’ and create smooth transitions.
Bringing The Hudson River To Google Maps
How fast a car’s lasers bounce off surfaces tells us how far away a building or object is and helps us create a 3D model of the world. When you visit an area in the distance in Street View, this model determines the best panorama to show you for that location.

People using the desktop version of Google Maps can get Street View by:

3. Press and hold the person icon in the lower right corner of the screen and drag it to the place you want to see (when you move the cursor on the map, the roads will be marked in blue – make sure the icon is on one of them, otherwise you will not be able to see street view).
To navigate in Street View, click and drag to change the camera angle, or tap a location on the street to zoom.

You can also use the curved arrows around the compass icon in the lower left corner of the screen to change the direction of the camera.
