The Hisense 50A7100FTUK is a stylish and versatile TV that packs a detailed picture, good sound performance and simple AI into a sub-£400 package. Unfortunately, the colors look inaccurate and washed out.

The TV features HDR10, HLG and DTS studio audio and features the VIDAA U platform with apps for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and more.

The design is elegant and the adjustable feet are a handy feature if you plan to add a soundbar to your setup. But what is the image quality? What about sound? Read on to learn more about the Hisense 50A7100FTUK.

The reviewed version is a 50-inch model, the A7100F is also available in 43- to 75-inch sizes.

Hisense opted for a thin matte black frame around the screen and a silver strip at the bottom, which makes it easier to focus on the display.

Here, the legs are worth noting. Although they’re relatively small and subtle, they’re adjustable, meaning you can raise them to fit snugly on a small TV stand, or slide them out and slide a soundbar between them.

Finally, there’s a remote control that’s big enough for all the playback controls and shortcuts you’d expect from a smart TV. Shortcuts include Rakuten TV, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Netflix and Freeview Play, but more on those features below.

On the back there are four HDMI ports (one ARC compatible), two USB 2.0 ports, digital audio output (optical), Ethernet port, CI slot and satellite input, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.

The Hisense 50A7100FTUK has a VIDAA U interface, but it differs from the full-screen VIDAA U4 version on the 75-inch model. Even though the display is limited to the bottom half, the icons are large and enlarge when you hover over them, making navigating the TV much easier.

The TV is loaded with popular apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Rakuten TV and Freeview Play, the latter of which offers access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5.

Unfortunately, you won’t find Apple TV Plus or Disney Plus on this TV, which means you’ll need a streaming device to access either of those TV services.

Although the remote doesn’t come with a built-in voice assistant, you can download the Remote Now app to your phone. It allows you to control your TV hands-free using Amazon Alexa.

There’s no motion control to be found on this TV, which is a bit disappointing, and there’s a game mode missing with a latency of 33.8ms.

50A7100FTUK provides a clear and detailed picture in HDR mode. Playback of Moana (4K Blu-ray) shows good blacks and plenty of detail, from the strands of Moana’s hair to the roughness of the rocks and the texture of Tomato’s giant fingernails. The film has a vivid feel that accentuates the blue sky and sea, Mona’s red dress and the undertones of her skin, bringing the character to life in abundance.

I tested the dynamic HDR mode with its dark materials – this display requires a more faithful color perception. Again, the TV showed an excellent display of detail, but the colors were a little more washed out than I would have liked.

The 50A7100FTUK’s colors pale in comparison to the JVC LT-55CF890, which costs £150 more than the Hisense. The reds and blues are brighter and the ginger looks more yellow than the chin, indicating a compromise in accuracy.

In some cases, lighter colors look better. For example, the grass is a very attractive light green shade, but it doesn’t look as natural as the JVC interpretation. Blacks and grays also appear greenish – this problem can also be seen when watching Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the biggest problem with skin tones is caused by the TV’s faded color presentation.

The TV probably best displays the detail through Dunkirk’s 4K Blu-ray, with facial features rendered in sharp detail.

In contrast, the scene from Blade Runner 2049 displays deep – albeit greenish – blacks, allowing for plenty of detail in the image. Upscaling to 4K is less impressive. Colors are darker and warmer, giving them a vivid feel, while the image is slightly sharper.

The upscaled 1080p image gives a smoother result and more detail than the upscaled SD version, but the image looks a bit grainy.

The sound on the Mona shows a good grasp of the bass. Dialogue, sound effects and music are generally well balanced. Tamatoa’s vocal number is big and commanding, without overshadowing any small sound or detail underneath.

This layering is somewhat lacking in his dark materials. The TV will push every sound effect to the front of the mix, making the audio sound a bit messy – though, thankfully, not intrusive.

You may need to turn up the volume higher than you are used to because the sound is limited at low volume. While the TV’s speaker isn’t exactly bad, if you’re looking for quality sound with minimal compromises, the addition of a soundbar will no doubt come in handy.

Need space for a soundbar The 50A7100FTUK has adjustable feet so you can move it to fit your soundbar or anything else that fits under your TV.

If you want natural, vivid colors, the Hisense delivers good detail and contrast with faded colors compared to other displays. The black ones also have a noticeable green tint.

The TV uses the VIDAA U interface. It is slightly different from the VIDAA U4, which offers a full-screen experience.

While not a huge upgrade over the original in terms of picture or sound, the Hisense R50A7200GTUK Roku TV maintains its excellent budget performance. With pleasing picture quality, numerous streaming features and free content, it’s an affordable TV with broad appeal.

When the first Roku TV arrived in the form of the Hisense Roku B7120UK, it was instantly recognized as one of the best budget TVs on the market.

Hisense H50a6200uk Review: The Pound Per Inch Ratio Is Strong Here

They say lightning never strikes twice, but – let’s mix our metaphors – Hisense and Roku seem to have struck gold again with the A7200G.

The Hisense Roku A7200G – or Hisense R50A7200GTUK Roku TV, to give it its long model name – will go on sale in early 2021.

Like the B7120UK, it comes in 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch sizes. The 50-inch model we’re reviewing here costs £399, which is £20 more than the R50B7120UK model it replaces.

It’s a case of deja vu with the design of the Hisense R50A7200GTUK Roku TV. The chassis is almost identical, so the build quality is plastic – not surprising for a budget TV.

Hisense H9g 4k Uhd Tv Review: Excellent Color And Hdr Performance For The Price

At 9.8kg it’s slightly heavier and measures 1116 x 648 x 82mm (without stand) – so again very similar. The legs are wide and assembly means inserting them and tightening the screws. After registering the TV, it takes a few minutes to get to the TV startup menu.

Roku says the frame is thin and round; It’s prettier than the original from what I remember. This allows a little more space for images on the screen and provides a less cluttered design than before.

The remote control is the same as the one that comes with the B7120UK. It still feels plasticky and light, but the basics are covered with buttons for fans of Netflix, Spotify and Google Play Movies (RIP) and Rakuten TV. There’s a Freeview Play hotkey, navigation buttons, but surprisingly considering the Streambar includes a remote, no voice button.
