Good Pc Monitors For Gaming – We’ve been testing and reviewing gaming monitors for a number of years, and we’ve compiled recommendations for different categories, including 1080p, 1440p and 4K gaming monitors. In this guide, we’ll go over everything we’ve learned so far and the latest models we’ve tested to give you comprehensive gaming monitor buying advice.

If you’re not sure which monitor category is best for you but have a specific budget in mind, it’s also worth mentioning that a recent feature discusses the best monitors to buy in every price range between $100 and $1,000.

Our monitor testing methodology has been updated over the past year and has tested over 60 screens. As we’ve discussed before, we tend to only discuss and recommend monitors that we’ve tested and know are good, or monitors that are very similar (use the same panels). It’s always worth coming back and checking out the individual monitor reviews we’ve created for more detailed thoughts on each monitor. Most importantly, the following recommendations are the by-product of our test results and research.

Best Gaming Monitors In 2023

We’ve broken down monitors into five categories: 1080p, 1440p, 4K, Ultrawide and HDR, with some key recommendations for each, depending on your target refresh rate, display size and budget.

If you’re looking for a 1440p gaming monitor, the first thing to ask yourself is what kind of 1440p monitor you need, as there are a variety of products on the market today that offer many refresh rates, sizes, panel types, etc. . marks. This can make purchasing a 1440p monitor daunting, but there are also so many options that there should be something for everyone, even those on a budget.

In our opinion, there are three main classes of 1440p monitors to consider: If you’re looking for a budget 1440p gaming monitor, we recommend a mid-refresh rate IPS ~165Hz for under $300. If you want something better with higher performance, you can get an upgrade in the same mid-range refresh class for around $400. For high-end buyers, we can talk about today’s 240Hz 1440p options.

The HP X27q, which we reviewed extensively a few weeks ago, is an incredibly good value at just $253. Prices usually range from $250 to $270. For that price, you get a 27-inch 1440p 165Hz IPS display with all the usual modern features like adaptive sync support for all of today’s GPUs.

Best Gaming Monitors For Pc, Ps5 And Xbox Series X In 2022

We previously recommended the Gigabyte M27Q in this category, but the HP X27q is a better monitor for a number of reasons. First, it’s cheaper, which is a huge saving at this level – and it performs just as well in key areas like response time performance. Second, it uses a regular RGB subpixel layout while the M27Q uses BGR. This affects text intelligibility, although the HP’s more traditional layout wins here. And third, you still benefit from the benefits of an IPS display such as excellent viewing angles and solid color quality.

The downside of the X27q is that the contrast ratio isn’t great, although it’s no different than other budget monitors like the LG 27GL83A and Dell S2721DGF. and that the color gamut is not as wide as today’s best gaming monitors. You also get decent speed, not on par with today’s best IPS panels, but for $260 we think HP covered the basics and then some.

The upgrade choice for people who want 1440p 165Hz but better overall image quality is the MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD, which we’ve been recommending for a while and at $420 remains a solid choice.

It’s $165 more than the X27q, so it won’t make sense for everyone, but for that extra money you get faster response times, a better contrast ratio, a much wider color gamut that’s really great for color-accurate productivity work, and solid strobing support for the background. It’s clearly a more versatile monitor that offers both productivity and gaming, and if you’re lucky, it’s up to $50 cheaper, so keep an eye out for specials.

Best Ultrawide Monitors 2023: Let’s Get Large

Even if you don’t already have the GPU power to run games at 240 FPS, buying a 240 Hz monitor gives you plenty of room for hardware upgrades, a better desktop application experience thanks to higher refresh rates and lower latency and many more monitors typically offer all the performance of lower-end products.

There are two products that we think are hard to ignore in this category right now: the Gigabyte M27Q Depending on your needs, either of these monitors will have the performance and features you’re looking for.

For most people, we’d go for the M27Q. Just a few months ago, such a feat would have cost at least $650. In our review, we said the M27Q X was just as good as products costing $200 more, and that’s still true today. It offers excellent response times to match today’s typically fast IPS panels, wide color gamut, excellent viewing angles and solid brightness. The fact that it’s flat compared to the Odyssey G7’s Curve also makes it preferable for non-gaming tasks, web browsing or productivity work.

The disadvantages of the M27Q The Samsung G7 is also semi-HDR capable at average performance, while the M27Q

Find Your Best Gaming Monitor With Asus

If you’re looking for a gaming monitor and value speed, single drive mode and contrast ratio, the Odyssey G7 is a great choice. Both sizes (27-inch and 32-inch) are typically available for $600 or less. To date, it’s the best VA panel we’ve seen and one of the few monitors that can deliver excellent black levels and fast response times at the same time.

It’s curved, so it doesn’t lend itself to productivity work, which might appear distorted on such a panel. There may also be issues with poor uniformity, scan lines and occasional flickering – however the extent of these issues may be device dependent. It would have been nice if Samsung could fix these quality assurance issues, but no such overhaul was made.

There is one more monitor worth mentioning in this segment. The Asus ROG Swift PG279QM is an excellent monitor that offers arguably the best performance of any 1440p 240Hz display, but its steep $750 price tag is hard to justify in today’s market. It’s not $250 cheaper than the M27Q X, but if you want the absolute best, it might be worth considering.

If you’re looking for a premium monitor for eSports gaming, the best choice right now seems to be the ViewSonic XG2431, a 1080p 240Hz IPS monitor with advanced blur reduction features. According to reliable reviews from sources like TFT Central, it’s a great product for competitive gaming and also appears to be good value at just $310 – less than the roughly $500 monitors we reviewed earlier in this recommended segment.

Curved Monitors For Your Work & Gaming Needs

What are the strengths of the XG2431? The big issues are response times and backlight sound. ViewSonic’s PureXP mode is highly customizable and can even be controlled via a strobe utility on the PC. The results are excellent in terms of motion sharpness, even though an IPS panel is used here, which used to be behind TN monitors in this respect.

The XG2431 has received Blur Busters 2.0 certification, a certification system we actually trust. Even the general color quality seems to be quite good on this screen. The disadvantages of this monitor are mainly in areas such as contrast ratio and color space, which are average but still suitable for gaming.

We think 1080p is still a viable choice if you’re looking to spend under $200 and want an entry-level monitor to get started with PC gaming. Surprisingly, we still can’t find a cheaper 1080p 144Hz IPS gaming monitor than the AOC 24G2, which we’ve recommended for many years and now sells for just $170. The same goes for its bigger brother, the very similar 27G2.

The AOC 24G2 offers best-in-class response time, solid color quality and handy features like a height-adjustable stand, which you don’t always get at this price point. The overall package is well balanced between gaming performance and image quality, so we’re happy to recommend it.

The Best Gaming Monitors For 2023

Fortunately, the disadvantages of the 24G2 are relatively minor. There are two variants, the 2019-era models and the 2020-era models, but both are great, so it’s nothing to worry about and we believe that most of the models sold today are from the 2019 era is coming.

Gaming in 4K remains a high-end category, requiring a fairly powerful current generation gaming PC or console to take advantage of what’s on offer, and there are far more options than in previous years and plenty of good stuff available
