Cricut frequently makes changes to the Cricut Design Space. Here’s what’s changed recently in the desktop software, as well as the Cricut Design Space update history, so you can take advantage of the software.

Cricut Design Space Software Updates: What You Need To Know Story
Cricut Design Space is frequently updated with new features. This post will help explain the key features of each update. If you want to see the nitty-gritty of each release (like minor additions and bug fixes), visit the Cricut Support page and click on Release Notes to find other helpful information.
Knowing about changes in Cricut design space, you can take advantage of the latest features in the desktop software, so you can use it with Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore or Cricut Joy.
With Cricut Design Space open, go to the menu at the top of the screen and select the Cricut Design Space drop-down menu, then About Cricut Design Space to see your current version.
Hover over the Cricut Design Space icon in the system tray and you can see the current version of the software.

Cricut releases updates in “waves,” meaning that not all users get the software at once. There is no option to force or update to get the new version of Cricut Design Cosmos. Exit and restart Design Space and it will automatically update to the current plugin.
In January 2020, Cricut transitioned from using web software to a desktop application. You can still visit design.cricut.com in a browser tab (Chrome preferred), but this will allow you to download and install the Design Cosmos plugin on your computer. Cricut did this for several reasons:
The biggest update for February is the Cricut Print and Cut is now even bigger! Much bigger! You can see my full post about this update: New Large Cricut Print , then Cut to Size and how to use it!
Also included in this update is another bounding box! You can now resize projects using the sides of the bounding box, not just the corners. This allows you to adjust the height or width independently instead of adjusting them all at once. To be honest, I would use this very little because from a graphic design point of view it’s usually not a good idea to stretch the images or text, but there may be some cases.
Latest Cricut Design Space Fix
A few minor updates for this release. First, if you have a very small item on the Canvas, the handles on the binding box will disappear, making it easier to move around. If you need to make changes to the size or rotation, you can zoom in to see the bounding box handles (or you can use the edit tool at the top).
Second, they’ve changed the way inline materials are displayed on the screen creation screen when you select your materials. Instead of a star, there is now a green tab to match the rest of the design area.
This update changed My Projects to My Items in the top navigation bar. My stuff is much more than just my projects, including your uploaded and saved photos. When you embed a project, you get more options for organizing your files in My Files, including all of your collections.
Plus, there’s a new and improved font picker (yay!). The interface is slightly different, but the best part is the Recent Fonts tab, which lets you easily see the fonts you’ve used recently.

You can also search for Cricut fonts by style. Note that this does not apply to your system fonts, only Cricut fonts. Want to learn more about fonts? Learn how to use fonts and text in the Cricut design area.
There are also some great minor updates, like the ability to sort searches, and fonts that appear when you search for keywords on the home page.
This release has several box updates. Height and width are now displayed with a bounding box. It will also show your rotation levels when you rotate the item.
There are other minor updates, including quick links to photos, projects, and communities on the home page, the ability to search creator profiles, and now a curriculum link in the top navigation bar.
Design Space For Desktop
This update includes a new tool called Cricut Editable Images. These are images and you can change the text to fully customize them. Since this is a big update, I’ve created a video and post to show you how this new tool works. Additionally, there have been some updates to the Cricut profile pages and the way the Cricut participant badges are displayed.
In this release, Cricut has released four new “Combination” tools in the Cricut design area. Since there are so many of these tools, I’ve created a video and post to help you learn how to use them. There are updates to the Layers panel in Design Space to support new tools, including the ability to rename your layers with a right-click.
Cricut Design Space Doesn’t Open On My Ma…
This update also adds more learning tools to Cricut Design Space, specifically for Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Explore 3. If you’ve selected one of these machines, you’ll see a Curriculum link in the drop-down menu at the top left of the Design area.
There’s no word on whether the training plan will be available to Cricut Joy, Maker, and Explore Air 2 owners.
Additionally, there is now an annual option for Cricut Access. As of this writing, an annual subscription is going as low as $7.99 per month, a savings of $2 per month over the monthly price.
This update is for images in the Cricut Image Library. Prices for images are now in the preview image. If you have permission, the number will be dimmed and cut off. If you’ve bought it before, it says Purchased.
Making Jpeg Files Into Cut Files In Cricut Design Space (updated For 2023)
Another small update. The Cricut Design Space home page is now full width on your screen if the Cricut Design Space window is wider than its limited borders.
Another small update. When purchasing images or fonts in Cricut Design Space, there is now a box to highlight the benefits of using Cricut Access.
Some small updates. You can now see the Cricut Design Space link in your browser by opening the app on your computer or phone.
Additionally, there are improvements when reporting images for copyright or other violations. If you select “other”, there is a box to write a reason for reporting the image.
How To Upload Svg Files To Cricut Design Space
This update is only about fonts! I’ve been wanting a bookmark feature for fonts and they finally released it. This works for both Cricut and system fonts, although system font embeds cannot be saved from device to device.
Just click the little green bookmark icon next to the font you want to embed. In this screenshot, I have highlighted three fonts.
Then, when I go to the Bookmarks tab at the top, I only see the fonts I’ve defined.
There are also some changes to messages in the Cricut Design Space that were added in June. They are now more specific based on the type of activity a user has done on your profile.
Cricut Design Space For Beginners
The biggest update for this round is the addition of keyboard shortcuts (sometimes called “hotkeys”) in the Cricut design area. If you’ve used keyboard shortcuts in other programs, most of them work the same way.
You can download a sheet for the Cricut shortcuts, and the keyboard shortcuts are also listed after the menu items. I’m on a Mac, so I see that the X command is cut, the C command is not copied, and the V command is pasted. It is just like any other software.
I’m a big fan of this update because you can be very fast in an application without having to move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse!
Another small update to the Cricut Design Space is the addition of a banner to the Cricut Community profile. Access your profile by going to the top left and clicking on your avatar and selecting View Profile. From there, click the pencil icon above the banner and you can upload your image.
