It’s back to school time and for prepaid wireless users you need to log in and save the season. Parents want to maintain contact with their students during transportation to and from school and during after-school activities. Traditionally, moms and dads would upgrade their devices and pass on their old phones to the kids to save money and look for the best deals on prepaid wireless.
Boost mobile has answered the call with a back-to-school promotion aimed primarily at those with unlocked or compatible devices. The banner ad on their homepage is directly aimed at Metro and cricket. The banner claims back to school with up to 50% off Metro and Cricket. Promotion details include:
The $25 plan is also a promotional plan for new customers and should be available at least until November. The plan was originally due to be available by the end of August. Customers who sign up for the plan will be able to renew it indefinitely for $25/month with automatic payment.
New TV and streaming video ads are airing nationwide in English and Spanish, claiming that the $25 unlimited plan is the lowest unlimited plan on the market. The ads support the $25 plan, which appears in a back-to-school promotion on the website, and point to their competitors using a boxer brief to show how other carriers treat their customers. The ads use the slogan “unleash your power” and don’t refer to this as a back-to-school promotion, just a $25 unlimited bundle. You can watch one of the streaming ads below, which has already been viewed more than 680,000 times since it launched just two weeks ago. The same TV commercial was broadcast more than 1,300 times.
Boost Mobile Introduces $40
It is clear that Boost has challenged rivals Metro and Cricket with both website banner ads and TV ads. But which of them actually offer a truly unlimited plan? Metro by T-Mobile offers unlimited talk, text and data starting at $40 per month, with possible network priority cancellation after 35GB of data usage. Cricket’s unlimited packages start at $55 per month, with priority cancellation at any time during periods of high network congestion. They do not require an automatic registration payment nor do they throttle the speed when the data limit is reached.
Competition between MVNOs will always be fierce. In this case, according to the Boost box reference, they punch above their weight in terms of data access. Metro and Cricket offer premium unlimited packages with less restrictions. While Boost’s $25 plan is about half the price, it’s not unlimited.
Boost Mobile introduced its new plan in stores, as found by Wave7 Research in a prepaid report that the publication recently sent to its subscribers.

Boost Mobile, owned by Sprint for a few years and sold by T-Mobile to Dish in 2020 to maintain (the appearance of) competition in the US wireless industry, certainly can’t overtake AT&T’s customer base anytime soon, but In terms of value for money, this prepaid service provider is getting harder to beat.

It’s available exclusively to new customers at a monthly rate of $25, which the operator promises never to increase as long as you’re enrolled in its Autopay program. It’s basically a flawless one-two punch thrown at Verizon and AT&T, who overcharge their subscribers for unlimited service and raise prices with little or no regard for things like loyalty.
Your $25 a month will buy you unlimited “everything” on Boost Mobile, mind you, with access to the carrier’s “expanded data network” (aka T-Mobile in addition to AT&T) and even (limited) 5G availability, though as always, there is “poop”.
While your unlimited phone calls and texts will of course have no limits, the “unlimited” mobile data included in this super cheap new plan will “drop” in speed once you’ve used up 30GB. That’s less than the 35 gigs of “high-speed” monthly data available in the $50 plan, but given the 50% discount, we’d probably agree it’s worth the sacrifice.
The only other thing to note is that the $25/month plan also doesn’t include a separate mobile hotspot allowance, so while tethering is allowed, its use will count towards the aforementioned 30GB high-speed bucket.

Still, Boost Mobile currently calls it the “cheapest unlimited plan in the US,” beating the basic Metro at T-Mobile option, for example, by a good $15.
