TCL has long been known for bringing great performing TVs that don’t cost a lot of money. That trend continues with Roku’s latest 6-Series TV, the 65R655, which hits the most important aspects of its performance—especially brightness and gaming power—while maintaining an affordable price. Throw in Roku TV’s super-easy interface, and you’ll have a picture that’s more than what it delivers, regardless of your budget.
You’ll have to make a few sacrifices to take full advantage of the good deal the 65R655 offers, this simple setup won’t appeal to everyone, and there’s not a ton of innovation compared to previous 6-series offerings. But what it offers over its predecessors and competitors, the 65R655 offers a huge amount of TV while cutting the biggest savings. If you’re looking for one of the best TVs you can find for under $1,000, this is a great place to start.
The Hisense U7H may not have a Mini LED backlight like the TCL 6-Series, but it does offer a QLED panel and the ever-improving Google TV operating system. And for the most part, it manages to deliver an impressive low-key viewing experience on QLED TVs – but there are a few caveats to note.
In today’s use, the Sony U7H delivered a vivid and clear viewing experience in all situations. Whether you’re watching in SDR or Dolby Vision, you’ll find that colors are stunning and contrast is excellent. Speaking of detail, upscaling below 4K is also pretty well done. I watched 1080p content pretty close to 4K, and while 720p content didn’t quite match it, it was far from distracting.

The fact that there are two HDMI 2.1 ports seems to confirm this, but the caveat is not least when it comes to input lag. A TV with an input lag of less than 15ms is generally considered sufficient for most gaming situations, and the Hisense U7H does.
Visually, the U7H is a killer option in this price range – which is exactly what we’ve come to expect from hisense at this point. It doesn’t necessarily beat all the competition, like the TCL 6-Series, in all situations, but as a package it’s a very strong contender – and ultimately worth buying.
