Xiaomi Mi Tv 4x 55 ‘2020 Edition’ Review
TVs have come a long way in recent years and 4K resolution is no longer reserved for the more advanced and expensive models on the market. In fact, almost every modern TV over 32 inches on store shelves now has a 4K picture, and there are plenty of budget options to choose from. How to choose the best 4K TV on the market? Well, a lot of it comes down to the features that matter most to you. One of our favorite affordable models is the TCL 4-Series, priced under $300 for the 43-inch model.
4K resolution means the TV has a certain number of pixels, 3,840 by 2,160 pixels to be exact, and the ability to display 4K TV shows, movies, and games from streaming services, devices, and game consoles like Xbox. Series X and PS5. There’s more to image quality than resolution, so you can’t ignore things like contrast, dynamic range, HDR performance, and maximum brightness. The best performing TVs in our reviews stand out in these areas. Also, if you’re looking for a gaming TV, you’ll also need to consider factors like input lag.
The list below represents the best 4K TVs (they are, the best TVs, period) I’ve reviewed at 4K Test Lab, where I compare them to each other to see which ones are worth buying. Here are my latest recommendations, and for last year’s TVs, I’ve included an “Outlook” section with information about the new model.
No TV I’ve tested offers this much picture quality for so little money. Thanks to mini-LED technology and well-implemented full-array local dimming, the TCL 6-Series Dolby Vision HDR TV helps out perform any other TV in this price range. With a THX mode that combines low input lag and high contrast, it’s also a great choice for gamers. As if that wasn’t enough, the Roku TV operating system is our favorite.
Samsung The Frame Tv (2021) Review
This TV was released in 2020, but it’s still a current model and remains my top choice. TCL also sells an 8K version of the 6-Series, but I don’t think it’s worth the extra money, and a Google-powered version that I haven’t yet reviewed (which, according to TCL, has the same image quality as this Roku version).
Outlook: The replacement of this TV is TCL R655 series. We haven’t reviewed it yet, but according to TCL it should be brighter than this model with more local dimming zones, and offers 144Hz input capability and an improved stand design for gaming. Prices are similar between the two series, except for the more expensive 75-inch size on the new model.
The C2 represents the pinnacle of image quality at a high but not too crazy price. It bests any non-OLED TV on this list, including the Samsung QN90B below, with its excellent black levels, unbeatable contrast and excellent off-angle viewing. It also has great gaming capabilities, making it the perfect companion to an Xbox Series X or S, PlayStation 5, or both. The C2 comes in a variety of sizes, though larger models are more expensive.
Improvements over last year’s C1 include a carbon fiber construction that’s up to 47% lighter — the 65-inch version we reviewed weighed just 37 pounds with its stand, compared to 72 pounds for the 65-inch C1 — plus some additional game mode tweaks and a new “Always Ready” feature.
Samsung Q95t/q90t (qe55q95tatxxu, Qe65q95tatxxu, Qe75q95tatxxu, Qe85q95tatxxu) Review
Roku is our favorite platform for live TV streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video, and it’s even better integrated with TV. This TCL 4-series can’t beat the models above in terms of image quality — its 4K resolution and HDR performance don’t help the picture much — but it’s perfectly fine for most people, especially at this price point.
We haven’t reviewed the latest version of this TV, the TCL S455 series, but it has similar specifications and we expect it to perform similarly to the previous model we reviewed.
Note that TCL makes a Google TV and an Android TV version of the 4-series. We haven’t reviewed them, but we expect similar picture quality to the Roku version.
The Vizio MQX is one of the cheapest TVs to feature full matrix local dimming, letting you do HDR justice to TV shows, movies, and games with enough contrast and pop. The MQX has fewer dimming zones than more expensive TVs like the TCL 6-Series, but it offers 16 zones on the 50-inch, 30 zones on the 65-inch, and 42 zones on the 75-inch, which is more than enough for a great. Overall picture quality performance, with bright highlights, dark black levels, strong contrast and accurate colors.
The Best Gaming Tvs For 2022
Unlike last year’s M7, the MQX has a true 120Hz refresh rate, allowing it to match 4K/120Hz signals from game consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which performed well in our tests. Vizio supports major HDR formats such as HDR10 and Dolby Vision on the M-Series. If you can’t save up for the TCL 6-series and want a better picture than the 4-series, the Vizio MQX is a great medium. – term
Looking for a TV with better picture quality but don’t want OLED? The Samsung QN90B is your best bet. This TV uses mini-LED augmented QLED TV technology for a brighter picture than any OLED TV. OLED’s stunning contrast still won out in our side-by-side tests, but the QN90B QLED display comes closer than ever.
As of summer 2022, the older version of this TV, the QN90A, continues to sell for hundreds less. It’s also a great performer, but it’s a bit darker than the QN90B. Some features are also missing from the 2022 model, including a new Gaming Hub with cloud gaming.
Samsung is the brand that sells more TVs than any other, and one of its most popular is the Q60 series. Its sleek QLED screen design stands out compared to the other TVs on this list – although the ultra-thin OLED models are slimmer – it offers better specs, picture quality and more size than models like the TCL 4-Series and Sony X80K. All of the TVs listed in this article are great value, but if you want a Samsung TV and can’t afford the QN90A, this is a great option.
Best High End 4k Tv 2022
The 2021 version, the Q60A, is still on sale and may cost less than the Q60B in some sizes. The latest version is considered brighter in our tests, but if you want the best deal, stick with the Q60A if it’s still available.

Vizio’s V-Series is our favorite budget alternative to the TCL 4-Series Roku TV. We like the Roku smart TV system better (does that sound familiar?), but the V-series has some perks, including a better remote with more advanced voice and imaging settings. The image quality between the two was basically the same, so unless you have a preference, it makes sense to get the cheaper one.
Outlook: The 2022 edition of the V-series has very similar specifications and pricing to the 2021-series. We haven’t reviewed it yet, but we expect both to perform equally well.
Samsung Q95t Review (qe55q95tatxxu / Qe65q95tatxxu)
Anchored by excellent image quality, full-array local dimming and plenty of brightness to make HDR content shine, the X90J is Sony’s answer to the advanced TCL 6-Series and Vizio models. This LED TV’s sleek look and Google TV operating system score more points, as does its state-of-the-art console support – including variable refresh rate (VRR) enabled via a software update in March 2022. Integrated NextGen . This Sony TV is compatible with PS5 gaming and works with Alexa and Google Assistant. If you want an “S” brand, this is one of the best values we’ve tested.
2022 Outlook: X90J is succeeded by X90K. I haven’t reviewed the new model yet, but its image quality specifications are very similar to the 2021 version, so I don’t expect major differences in image quality. Unlike the 2021 version, the new model is VRR enabled from the factory.
