Best 75 Inch 4k Tvs To Buy In 2022
This review is based on testing conducted on the 55R646, the 55-inch model in this series. Despite the difference in screen size, the $1,799.99 75-inch 75R646 has identical features, and we expect similar performance.
TCL has always impressed us with its 6 Series TVs, which offer solid performance at an affordable price. This TV only works on the Roku TV platform, which is accessible and simple, but not the most difficult feature. Now TCL is offering an alternative with the Google TV 4K 6-Series TV. It costs about the same as the Roku TV 4K 6-Series models (the 55-inch 55R646 we tested retails for $949.99), and offers robust app and services support, Google Cast screen mirroring, and hands-free Google Assistant (though discontinuing Apple support). AirPlay is included with Roku TV). They also seem to pack some engineering improvements over the Roku models, with great performance and low input lag. The Hisense U8G series shines, but other than that, TCL’s Google TV 6-Series packs great features for the same price, earning our Editors’ Choice award alongside the Hisense model.

Before proceeding, it’s important to note that TCL has temporarily withdrawn its Google TV model from retail outlets due to reports of software vulnerabilities. We didn’t experience this issue in testing, and now TCL has released a software update for the affected models, now available in stores.
Samsung Ue50tu7020 Review
Physically, the Google-based 55R646 is nearly identical to the Roku-based 55R635. The screen is framed by the same thin band of brushed metal that runs along the sides and top, with the same stripe on the bottom edge as the chrome TCL logo in the middle. It also sits on gun feet which are very similar to the V, although they are slightly lower and have protruding rubber feet. The biggest clue that this is a Google TV model and not a Roku model is the rectangular, dark gray, upholstered protrusion that sits on the bottom of the TV. This is a list of remote microphones, which provide hands-free access to the Google Assistant.

The power cable is connected to the rear left side of the TV, with all other connectors on the right side, facing right. It includes four HDMI ports (two 4K120, one eARC), two USB ports, a 3.5mm composite video input, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an optical audio output, an Ethernet port, and an antenna/cable connector. Below the port is a power/input button and a remote field microphone mute switch.
The remote is a long, thin, rectangular black stick with an attractively rounded end. The large round gray navigation pad is near the top, with the power, settings, and Google Assistant buttons above it, and the port microphone. The menu buttons are below the pad, with dedicated app buttons for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, TCL Channel and YouTube below them. The right edge of the remote control holds the volume rocker and mute button.
While most of TCL’s smart TVs use the Roku TV platform, the 55R646 uses Google TV to operate. Google TV is a simplified version of the Android TV platform on Hisense TV, which retains all of its features, with a more content-oriented menu system rather than app selection-driven ones. All the big names in streaming are available, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Twitch and YouTube. Google TV also supports Google Cast to mirror your Android smartphone or tablet, or Chrome browser tab from a computer, though it doesn’t support Apple AirPlay the way Roku TV does (however, Roku TV does support Google Cast).

Google TV also offers full access to Google’s voice assistant, which you can activate by simply saying “Hey Google”, thanks to the 55R646’s built-in remote microphone array. It’s a welcome trend driven by several TVs from Hisense and Sony over the past few years, before voice assistant integration was almost exclusively required for speaking on the remote control. Also, if you’re not comfortable with the microphone always listening for wake-up calls, you can simply mute the microphone with the button on the back.
Google Assistant remains a very capable voice assistant, capable of answering common questions like weather and sports, finding content to watch, and directly controlling the TV itself and any compatible smart home devices. This can be very useful, especially with hands-free voice control.
The TCL 55R646 is a 4K TV with a 120Hz refresh rate. Supports high dynamic range (HDR) content in HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and hybrid log gamma (HLG).

Like most TVs, the 55R646 has an adaptive mode that tries to adjust picture settings automatically based on what’s currently being displayed. This mode is enabled by default and works over whatever picture mode you are using. We recommend turning this feature off while watching movies, to get a more accurate image based on the director’s intent, and we disabled it ourselves during testing.
The squares represent the corresponding color levels. Dots represent measured color levels. The closer each dot is to its nearest square, the more accurate the color of the television will be.
The chart above shows the color levels of the 55R646 in Movie mode with an SDR signal compared to the Rec.709 broadcast standard and an HDR signal compared to the DCI-P3 digital cinema standard. The 55R646 performed very well here, with accurate whites and balanced colors in SDR and HDR. The SDR image is nearly perfect out of the box, with the greens slightly undersaturated, and the yellows and magentas just a touch warm, as the only (very minor) complaints. The HDR image is also very good, covering almost the entire DCI-P3 color space although the greens and yellows are less saturated. All colors are well balanced and don’t look skewed in any direction except for cyan which works only green, blue, magenta, red, and yellow all stand out.
Looks great on 55R646. Greens and blues look clear and natural, with subtle color variations. Fine details like fur and skin come out sharp, both in direct sunlight and in shadow.
The Best Tv For Ps5 And Xbox Series X In 2022
Equally impressive at 55R646, Deadpool’s red costume looks vibrant and accurate to the film’s original cover. The flames in the burning lab battle looked bright and alive, while the shadow detail in the same frame was still visible without looking washed out.
Shows the best contrast of 55R646. The cut and contour of a black suit can be seen clearly and it still looks black even with balloons, lights, and a bright white shirt in the same frame. Skin tones look natural against a black and white background, and the various splashes of color in the scene are well visible.
The 55R646 is a 120Hz TV that supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM), which should please gamers. However, it doesn’t have AMD FreeSync like the Hisense U7G and U8G, or Nvidia G-Sync like the LG C1P (and FreeSync) has, which is something to keep in mind if you want to connect a PC to it.
Using the HDFury Diva HDMI matrix(Opens in a new window) , we measured an input lag of 8.1ms in game mode. This means the 55R646 is faster
