And now the pictures come.
The daylight photos from the Galaxy S21 Ultra are slightly better than the S20 Ultra – they offer better dynamic range thanks to new HDR processing and offer more accurate color reproduction. However, the new Ultra photos are a little too sharp.

The Galaxy S21 samples look very similar to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. We had to look at pixels a lot, and the two minor differences we saw were the slightly muted sharpness in the regular S21 images and hints of noise here and there.

All three galaxies share the same 12MP wide-angle camera, with or without AF. And of course, all three take pictures of the same quality. The old S20 Ultra has slightly warmer color saturation, but that’s the only (small) difference.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 4x telephoto lens that works in 5x zoom mode by default. Naturally, the S20 Ultra’s images offer more zoom at the cost of plenty of detail and scaling artifacts.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra and S21 have 3x zoom cameras with different sensors and optics – 10MP with a 70mm lens and 64MP with a 29mm lens. The Ultra scales its power output to 12MP, while the S21 trims the center of the large sensor and then scales the content. Well, the Ultra clearly offers better shots – its native 3x images are sharper and less noisy.
There was no doubt that a true 10x optical zoom (S21 Ultra) would be better than a digital one over a 4x camera (S20 Ultra). You can compare the two 10x options and clearly see the superiority of the native 10x camera.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra’s low-light photos from the main camera aren’t all that impressive, but they’re an upgrade over the S21 in terms of noise handling.
We also shot these scenes in night mode, and the photos from both S21 phones are almost identical.
Both Galaxy S21 phones have 3x tele cameras, but they save completely different photos. Those from the Ultra are more detailed, with very well handled noise and much better dynamics. You can see more detail clearly in the dark areas.
Using Night Mode on tele-snappers further improves the quality, although the S21 is still a bit lacking – the Ultra once again offers sharper images, with less noise and better dynamic range.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra’s low-light photos from the main camera aren’t impressive, but they’re better than those captured by the S20 Ultra. The noise reduction works better on the S21 Ultra and the color saturation is better.
The differences when using night mode boil down to slightly better exposed darker areas on the S21 Ultra, and sometimes – through a better saturation mesh. But we had to really stare at those pixels to notice these small changes.
It is very difficult to tell samples from ultrawide shooters as they use the same sensors. The differences are minor here and there, but for all intents and purposes – these shots are the same. And they all look bad.
Night mode improves ultra-wide shots on both phones and once again – saves unrecognizable photos.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review
We also took more side-by-side photos of the two Galaxy Ultras. The 5x photos from the S20 are of course more extensive but lack detail. In fact, they looked like trimmed and scaled versions of what we did with the S21 Ultra 3x camera – the same noise, exposure and colors were brought a little closer.
The same conclusion completely applies to the telephoto lens samples in night mode – those from the S20 Ultra looked like trimmed and scaled versions of the S21 Ultra. Yes, exactly the same.
Conclusion: The S21 Ultra seems to offer slight improvements over the S20 Ultra and S21 in the quality of the primary, ultra-wide and 3x telephoto lenses. But none of these phones offer the native 10x zoom – that’s unique to the S21 Ultra, and in terms of versatility – the new Ultra is second to none. Here it is – the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung’s biggest flagship phone to hit headquarters! And not only is it taller, thicker and heavier than the Galaxy Note10 +, it is huge in terms of innovation.
Almost everywhere you look, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is a better smartphone than any of its peers. Heck, you can make strong arguments that this is a better phone than any smartphone period.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Renders Revised, Now There’s An Extra Camera (or Sensor)
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a huge 6.9-inch dynamic AMOLED 1440x3200px that can refresh up to 120 times per second (in FullHD), a huge 5000mAh battery that can be recharged (using a suitable 45W charger) in just 58 minutes, a chipset top (or Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990), more RAM than most laptops, and a camera system that can do anything, even in the dark (more on that in a few paragraphs).
Okay, let’s talk about the specs before we look at the samples. The Galaxy S20 Ultra pioneered its own 108MP Nonacell sensor that combines 9 pixels in 1 for the ultimate 12MP photos. The 1/1.33-inch sensor is one of the biggest in a phone (the biggest if we discount some old Nokia PureView and the weird experimental camera-phone hybrid that nobody ever bought), which gives him a few advantages. Larger sensors collect more light and offer a shallower depth of field than smaller ones. Combined with a bright f / 1.8 lens on top, the main camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra can produce great results in good and low light.
The second impressive sensor is the 48MP periscope telephoto lens. It’s quite large at 1/2.0 inch and gives 4x optical zoom, or about 102mm in the 35mm equivalent (the main camera is 26mm). It’s also stabilized so you can use it in low light, even without night mode. The other periscope cameras we’ve seen (the P30 Pro comes to mind) were basically useless in low light.
All of this combines well with the samples below. We took some photos with the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 108MP main camera, its 12MP ultra-wide module, and 48MP periscope module – in that usual night mode. 108MP and 48MP sound nice, but all three cameras end up capturing 12MP photos.
Samsung Galaxy S20+ Long Term Review: Design And Handling
With all these impressive specs, you can bet that the Galaxy S20 Ultra is a big device. It’s bigger than the width of the Galaxy Note10+, but it seems bigger because of the extra thickness and weight. On the other hand, its sizable camera bump was a nice spot to unhook the little finger.
Then there is the price. Best Samsung Orders Best Price Samsung – $1,399 / €1,349 / £1,199 for the entry-level 128GB model and $1,599 / €1,549 / £1,399 for the 256GB model – both 5G. It’s hard to swallow, but early pre-orders in select markets will get a free pair of Galaxy Buds+, which is nice.

Samsung Pulls The Galaxy S20 Fe’s One Ui 3.1 Update
Samsung is announcing the next generation of its flagship Galaxy S family next week, and we felt it most appropriate to look back at last year’s model. Fortunately, one of our own has been using the Galaxy S20+ for a long time, and this long-term review came naturally.
You may remember that we ran a long-term Galaxy S20 Ultra review. Still, the S20+ differs slightly from the Ultra in a few important aspects, such as the camera and handling. Also, that’s a different person writing these paragraphs, so even if you consider phones the same way, the different perspective can be enlightening in itself. Finally, with the upcoming release of S21, the context of the times introduces its level of detail.
The Galaxy S20 + is the middle option in the 2020 range, sharing most of its equipment with the smaller S20. And when we say most, we mean it – aside from the extra screen and more battery capacity on the Plus, these two phones are pretty much the same phone. Of course, there are pocket-friendliness considerations at stake, but we could argue that the jump from Plus to Ultra is more significant than Vanilla to Plus.
