The Samsung Galaxy M31 phone is thick and feels a bit heavy in the hand, so it is tiring and takes it after some time. The smartphone is available in blue, black and red colors. Thanks to the glossy back panel, the Galaxy M31 is fingerprint and smudge resistant, which is quite consistent with the black color variant seen in the review. The biggest upgrade to the Galaxy M31 is the camera. The smartphone features a 64MP quad rear camera as opposed to the 48MP triple camera system on the Galaxy M30s. The new setup includes a high-resolution 64MP f/1.8 Samsung GW1 primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth camera and a 5MP macro lens. The upgraded design is more mobile, allowing users more ways to capture images.
The Galaxy M31’s main camera captures decent light in images. When the scene optimizer is ready, the camera uses a lot of processing software to color the colors, which you can prefer more natural tones. So, if you are holding flowers, for example, the greens will look greener and the pink can be redder. The images are warmer, which means you won’t be able to capture natural white tones at all. Overall, I found the images captured in the light to lack contrast and dynamic range compared to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in this segment.
The main camera can quickly focus on the subject, but this becomes a little annoying as the sun goes down. By default, the main camera shoots at 16MP and uses pixel binning to provide sharper and clearer images. You can manually change the aspect ratio to 3:4 64MP to capture high resolution images. However, 64MP images will look darker, lack HDR support and should only be used in bright light if you want to capture a wide landscape to zoom in later.
Moving on from the main camera, the 8MP wide-angle Samsung Galaxy M31 enables you to take nice wide-angle photos in low light. The colors look good and there is plenty of detail as long as you don’t zoom in and pixelate. Portrait mode using Focus live mode can please capture some bokeh shots while the blur effect is not extreme. Skin tones look warm and soft, but good details are found.

Finally, we have a 5MP macro camera that can get as close as 3cm to the subject. Again, best used in light, the macro camera allows you to capture creative close ups. Macros can look clear and detailed as far as the subject is still. But the colors tend to look muted and washed out compared to the natural bokehs that can be captured using the main camera.
The Galaxy M31 is pretty decent when it comes to recording videos. The front and rear cameras can record UHD videos. The main camera also supports Super Stable mode, which does a pretty good job keeping the video blur-free.
