Yet another Galaxy smartphone in the middle is now updated to Android Pie. Samsung has released the official Pie update for the Galaxy A7 (2018) in Russia, following the release of the update for the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) in the country last week. The Galaxy A7 (2018) also received the Android Pie beta program, but Russia was not part of that program, so beta users will have to wait longer.

The same applies to A7 (2018) owners in other markets. Samsung hasn’t released the Galaxy A8 / A8+ (2018) and Galaxy A9 (2018) update in more than one country yet, so we don’t expect it to be any different for the Galaxy A7 (2018). The A7 (2018) update is also a bit dated on the security front, as the official update comes with the February 2019 security patch. In terms of features and changes, you can check out what Android Pie brings to Galaxy devices in addition to the Samsung One UI Redesign. The full changelog can be seen here.

New Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Leak Reveals Marketing Render And Several Key Specifications

Brands like Oppo and Vivo are pushing competent options in the mid-range segment, and on the other hand, the likes of Xiaomi (Poco), Nokia and Asus are pushing highly lucrative devices online. Samsung is clearly upping its game and the Galaxy A7 (2018) launched today is perhaps the lowest priced ‘A7’ at launch and also packs a few new features. We tested the new triple-camera phone and summarized our findings in our Galaxy A7 (2018) review as follows:

Dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, side fingerprint sensor, Samsung Pay, GLONASS, 3.5 mm port

Unlike the A6 series launched earlier this year, the Galaxy A7 (2018) has a glass back and color matching

Polycarbonate side frame. Samsung has managed to limit the overall thickness to 7.5mm, even while having three cameras on the back.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Arrives In The Philippines For ₱9,490!

By sticking to its design lineage, Samsung has managed to avoid both – the camera bump and the notch. While limiting the camera body is commendable from a design perspective, (and something Samsung itself does in its high-end phones like the Galaxy S9 and Note 9) it also limits the size of the camera sensor.

Samsung sticking to its philosophy without a notch, on the other hand, is commendable and welcome. Having cycled through a myriad of different size scores over the year, the standard continuous magic of Samsung phones still feels natural and dignified.

Another important point of discussion here is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy A7 (2018) houses the biometric sensor in a slight depression on the right side, with the button.

The switch is still clickable, but you don’t have to press it for the fingerprint sensor to work. It is of the “Always On” type and all you have to do is put your thumb or registered digit in the slot to unlock. We like the fingerprint sensor on the side of the Galaxy A7 (2018).

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) Review: Triple Trouble

The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) is slim, high-quality and very comfortable to handle. The regular, unobstructed, tick-free status bar still feels refreshing. Fortunately, the speaker grill is at the bottom and not the top right edge. We really like the fingerprint sensor on the side. The sensor is always on and you don’t have to press the button to unlock. However, only three fingerprints can be registered. The standard micro USB port at the bottom doesn’t feel right. Samsung would have chosen the Type-C port. Samsung does not include a protective case in the box. You must purchase one separately.

The Galaxy A7 (2018) comes with a 6.0-inch display with a Full HD + (1080 X 2220) AMOLED display. Samsung makes some of the best AMOLED displays and the one on the Galaxy A7 (2018) felt great for its price. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass (version not specified).

The 6.0-inch AMOLED screen is one of the strongest points of the Galaxy A7 (2018). You can choose between different color profiles under display settings. The view is decent. Always on display also adds value. Samsung is also adding an Always On Home button that you can double-tap to wake the phone. Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) review: performance, software and battery

The Galaxy A7 (2018) is powered by an Exynos 7885 processor which is a 14nm process based chip with two 2.2GHz Cortex-A73 CPU cores and six 1.6GHz Cortex-A53 CPU cores. We have previously experienced the same chipset on the Galaxy A8 + and the performance as well.

Samsung Galaxy A7 #expressreview: Top Notch Performance, But Price Is Too High

The chipset powering the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) also supports Dual SIM Dual VoLTE. The handset comes in two variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.

Both variants accept up to 512GB of storage. Interestingly, you can also transfer apps and social media data to SD card. Micro SD storage is inherently slower than SD card storage, but this should still make external storage much more useful,
