Samsung’s policy of three major OS updates for multiple Galaxy devices has changed the game, and it’s a strategy that other manufacturers are now copying (but not doing very well). Three generations of Android OS and One UI updates are promised for all flagship Galaxy phones and tablets available from 2019. Certain mid-range devices are also eligible, including new models and their predecessors, such as the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72.

But what about the Galaxy A50, the phone that revived Samsung’s mid-range lineup in 2019 and sold incredibly well around the world? Following the official announcement of Google’s first official Android 12 beta for the Pixel and other non-Galaxy A50 smartphones, many Galaxy A50 owners are asking if their device is compatible with the latest version of Android (and thus One UI 4.0) and the answer is yes. will not please.

It’s fitting to get Android 12. Samsung’s three-generation OS update guarantee doesn’t cover any non-flagship phones in 2019. Android 11 and One UI 3.x will be the last major update for the Galaxy A50. It’s unfortunate, yes, especially given that the Galaxy A50 is pretty much as powerful as the Galaxy A51, which will get both Android 12 and Android 13. and the same applies here.
So there are security updates for the Galaxy A50 that will just keep coming regularly for at least a year in the future. Samsung may decide to treat Galaxy A50 owners with an update to version 3.5 of One UI, which is expected to launch with new Galaxy flagships targeted for the second half of the year, but that’s not set in stone yet.

In April, Samsung announced updates to its Galaxy A series, a family of budget phones for 2020 that will compete with Apple’s latest iPhone SE. While some models have new features like 5G, they all cost less than $400 and have headphone jacks. One of the new phones, the Galaxy A51, is the 2019 successor to the Galaxy A50.
The Samsung Galaxy A50 has a solid camera, an in-display fingerprint reader, a headphone jack and a long-lasting battery – all at an affordable price.
Samsung Galaxy A50: Is It Still Worth Buying?
The phone can sometimes be broken, the maximum video resolution is only 1080p and the speaker quality is low.
While the Galaxy A50 isn’t waterproof like the Moto G7, the Galaxy A50 is worth the extra $50 for its great camera and long-lasting battery.
The 2019 Galaxy A50 may not be as stylish as the latest Galaxy S20 phones or as cool as the Z Flip. But $350 at launch and now even more discounted by Samsung at $300, the A50 is one of the two best Android phones under $400 to come out in the last year. The other option is the Motorola Moto G7, which originally launched for $300 (£189, AU$349), but you can now get it for less (in the US, Motorola now sells it for $230). For the past few years, Motorola’s G series has consistently ranked as our favorite budget phone, and the G7 continues that legacy as an excellent phone for its price.
It’s No Android 12, But The Galaxy A50 Did Just Get The Latest Security Update
All in all, we still love the Moto G7. It’s a great affordable phone and won our Editors’ Choice for its cheap price, good camera, and reliable performance. But I think the Galaxy A50 is better, even if it’s a bit more expensive. It also earned him an Editors’ Choice award for it. If you have an extra $70, go for the Galaxy A50 over the Moto G7. While it doesn’t shoot 4K video and I’m a big fan of Samsung’s One UI, the A50’s great camera, sleeker design, and longer battery life make it a better phone.
While both phones are similar in size and design, there are a few details that put the Galaxy A50 above the Moto G7. For example, the Moto G7 has a larger rear camera bump. Having a bump isn’t a deal breaker, and it’s found in many phones, including the iPhone. The Galaxy A50’s camera looks much brighter, flatter and more elegant. The screen camera notch for the front-facing camera is also smaller, so it’s less distracting when viewing the screen. Finally, since the Galaxy A50 has an in-display fingerprint scanner, the device looks sleeker overall. The Moto G7, on the other hand, has an exposed rear reader emblazoned with a Motorola logo (and a Motorola logo on the lower front bezel), which isn’t all that attractive.
Also, the Galaxy A50 has an AMOLED screen compared to the Moto G7’s LCD. Although both phones have roughly the same resolution and pixel density, the Galaxy A50’s screen is brighter and the colors are much more vibrant. Blacks are also much darker and more deceptive. Color shifting is also more severe on the Moto G7 when both phones are viewed from different angles. This means that the colors are washed out significantly and the screen looks lighter from certain angles.
One advantage the Moto G7 has is that it is quite water resistant. It’s not fully submersible, but it has a nano-coating that protects it from light splashes and splashes. Samsung didn’t add water resistance to the A50.

Both the Galaxy A50 and the Moto G7 capture clear and bright images when conditions are optimal, such as in environments with high even light. While the Galaxy A50 can only record 1080p video (compared to the Moto G7’s max 4K), the Galaxy A50’s camera still beats the Moto G7 in many ways.
Images are sharper so you can see finer details in things like leaves and bricks. In low light, the A50 brightens and accentuates colors, but photos taken with the G7 are much more cloudy and muddy with light colors. The A50 also has a wider dynamic range, meaning scenes with different lighting conditions are more evenly exposed than the Moto G7. I did notice that there were times when the A50’s HDR effect looked a little too realistic, but I still preferred it to the Moto G7. The Galaxy A50 also has a second wide-angle camera, meaning you capture more content in each frame. This is useful when you want to capture expansive landscapes.
