Update Samsung A51 London Used Price Review – Rating: 5/10? 1 – Absolute hot garbage 2 – Warm garbage 3 – Poor design 4 – Some positives, many negatives 5 – Somewhat imperfect 6 – Good enough to buy on sale 7 – Great, but 8- not best in class – Fantastic with some caveats 9 – Shut up and take my money 10 – Absolute Design Nirvana
After being so impressed with the new mid-range phones from Google and Apple, we decided to take a look at the competition. The Galaxy A51 is Samsung’s answer to mid-range models like the iPhone SE and Pixel 3a. And it’s… if that makes sense, it’s a very “Samsung” phone.
Update Samsung A51 London Used Price Review

I will say that the phone enjoys Samsung’s overall approach of throwing every possible feature at the user. It goes beyond just branding and providing branded services, yes, that’s what almost every phone does now. There’s so much going on in this $300-$400 phone that trying to do almost anything is more complicated than it needs to be.
Samsung Galaxy S21+ Review: The Middle Child
The A51’s hardware is very solid, and on paper it’s a pretty good deal, especially compared to the Samsung Galaxy S series. The display and storage are particularly noteworthy. But once you start using it, you’ll find that the phone doesn’t do better than the competition: low memory and a lot of bloated software are bad dance partners.
That’s acceptable if you’re heavily invested in Samsung as a brand and platform, but it’s better to buy a similarly priced iPhone or Pixel.
It’s a very respectable device for the price, especially given that it has a large, slim-frame AMOLED display with a punch-hole camera and an in-display fingerprint reader. The standard 128 GB storage is also something that is not common in this market segment. At this price point, you don’t get extras like wireless charging or water resistance (unless you buy an iPhone SE).
What really struck me about this phone is how beautiful it is. In addition to the display and its attractive symmetry, this multi-faceted, multi-textured, colorful thing under the glass back gives it a dark and attractive look, from the curves of the device itself. makes a good difference.

In the hand, the A51 looks like any large phone released in recent times. At 6.5 inches, it’s not the biggest phone, but it’s on the bigger and heavier end. With the rounded edges and curved glass back, I felt like it was going to slip out of my hands…but it never did, so what do I know? However, I would have liked to see some grippy texture on the side.
The design is very simple, with the standard Samsung power on the right side under the volume. At the bottom of the phone there is a headphone jack, where the mono speaker comes out. You’ll use the former more often than other phones because the speaker is so muffled. Loud enough to hear speech in an average room, but not much else. I slept through a few alarms on this thing, even though I’m a heavy sleeper, credit it.
The rear camera module (four, four, sensors and lenses, as well as an LED flash) shows the setup of the Galaxy S20 series, but its photographic capabilities are not nearly on par with its larger friends. There is no fingerprint sensor on the back, but I really wish it was there.
The in-display fingerprint reader is easily the worst feature of the A51. It’s an older design than the newer, faster and more durable sensors seen on the S20 series and OnePlus 8. It usually took a few tries to successfully unlock, and about a third of the way through the render I quit and used it. my example It’s a step back, not only compared to the mid-range competition, but also compared to Samsung’s older designs, which featured fingerprint readers on the back of the device.
Samsung Galaxy A90 5g Review: Affordable(ish) 5g
It’s a great example of function over form, and it’s something that buyers of this range really hate to see. I’d like to replace those fingerprint readers with wireless charging, water resistance, or stereo speakers. I hope Samsung implements this in the next version.
On the other end of the spectrum, the display is great. It’s Samsung’s usual bright, super-saturated AMOLED panel, with small bezels and a hidden hole-punch camera in the center. It’s not the highest resolution panel in the world, especially at 6.5 inches, but I think it’s probably the best display possible in this price range. If having a big, beautiful panel is important to you, it’s enough to put the Galaxy A51 ahead of the competition.
An octa-core processor (four primary and four secondary Cortex cores) handles most tasks with ease. Sure, it’s not as fast as flagship phones, but it doesn’t need to be. I was able to move through typical web pages, email, and Slack messages relatively quickly, and enjoyed some 3D games.
I wish I could say the same about RAM. I found the 4GB of storage on my daily driver phone, the Pixel 3a XL, to be more than enough, but it’s a Pixel phone and runs a relatively basic version of Android straight from Google’s oven. The same amount of memory on the Galaxy A51 simply won’t go far because Samsung has so many apps and processes running in the background. For more on software bloat, see the Software section below, but suffice it to say: apps take seconds to load, even if you’ve been using them 10 minutes before well, you have to get used to them.

If not enough RAM, at least there is a lot of memory. Samsung’s massive software creation takes up almost 30GB of the built-in 128GB, which isn’t great. But you can insert a cheap MicroSD card to increase the memory up to 512 GB. This support remains Samsung’s trademark among the “big three” at all price points, so it’s a clear win over the competition.
Wow. After using the Galaxy Note 8 for a few years, I thought Samsung developed a lighter touch when it came to the heavily modified and heavily branded version of Android. But based on the Galaxy A51, I’d say Samsung is back to bad habits.
I could go on and on about all the extra and questionably necessary apps that Samsung stuffs this phone into. Instead I will tell you that during the review period I received a notification to reset my phone because it was 7 days.
Yes. Samsung knows that this phone has a lot of software to keep it running smoothly. And instead of solving this problem by reducing the UI or app list, they created a new process to tell you to restart your phone once a week… making the problem worse. This is a very important work for Samsung.

The settings menu has been redesigned in unnecessary ways. Quick tools in the notification bar are full of things like “Connect to Windows” (a built-in Microsoft-branded app), “Dolby Atmos” and “Bixby Routines”. Even the standard power button launches Bixby instead of the power button menu. It seems like the company is almost spitting on its users for not embracing Bixby when it has its own button. Very Samsung.
Applications? Yes, we have apps. This phone has tons and tons of third-party software installed to increase the profit margin of this hardware. At a glance, I can see the slot machine app, Amazon and Walmart, Pluto TV, the official NBA app.
Most of these problems can be solved if you really want to. The Bixby-heavy launcher can be replaced with Nova. The navigation bar can be cleared. You can even disable some of these unnecessary processes when running third-party tools. (Now that I think about it, I had to go through this super-Samsung process on the Note 8, too.) But after using the Pixel 3a XL and especially the OnePlus 8, its intuitive and painstakingly clean with the interface it seemed too heavy. you have to do it
I think some people are willing to ignore it. In particular, those who love that beautiful screen or the expanded storage option, or those who have invested heavily in the Samsung and Galaxy brands. (Yes, they do!) But I think it’s a very thin slice of the market, and much thinner than usual at this price point.
Samsung Galaxy F62 Review: Another Knockout Mid Range Galaxy Phone
Oh, and we bought the AT&T variant of the phone for this review, which comes with even more bloatware and at least a dozen special apps for AT&T and DirecTV. It’s not Samsung’s fault, but something you should know – go for an unlocked model if you can.
Despite the slightly ridiculous scale claims of the Samsung S20 series, it has good camera technology. The A51 is amazing
