Holding the Galaxy A50 will remind you of the Galaxy A50. It brings back the sleek, thin and light body we loved in the original model. The Galaxy A50s is 7.7 mm thick and weighs only 166 grams, making the smartphone very light and easy to hold. The slim form factor combined with the curved back panel creates a great feel in the hand.
The curved back panel is made of plastic, which is a bit disappointing for a phone priced at over 20,000. That being said, the plastic body makes the phone lighter and more comfortable to hold, so that’s a good trade-off if there is one. .
The biggest visual change comes on the board, where each box has a different shade of the same color as the pattern chosen on the back. The Galaxy A50s comes in Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, and Prism Crush Violet colors. The purple color really stands out visually. I found the black option, which actually looks gray and gives a prism-like gradient when viewed from different angles.

The Galaxy A50s is a tall phone, but it’s easy to use with one hand. Reaching the top of the screen requires readjusting your grip, but the keys are long and feel tactile. The volume rocker and power button are located on the right side of the narrow bezel. On the left is the SIM tray, which can accommodate two nano SIM cards and a microSD card. At the bottom of the bezel, you can see the 3.5mm headphone jack and the speaker grill on either side of the Type-C port.

Inside the Samsung Galaxy A50s is a new 2.3GHz Exynos 9611 SoC chipset. The A50 is powered by the Exynos 9610. The difference between the two processors is small, so don’t expect huge performance gains. The Exynos 9611 is based on the 10nm FinFET process and, like its predecessor, is equipped with a Mali-G72 MP3 graphics processor.

Out of the box, the Galaxy A50s feels as snappy as you’d expect. Apps open and load quickly, and I never experienced any crashes while using them. The 6GB RAM model we received for review was easy to switch between apps, but could experience stuttering when doing so.
The Galaxy A50s performs well enough for everyday use, such as browsing the web or social media, sending messages, and streaming videos. However, it won’t be very fluid or smooth as you will see stuttering when scrolling through apps. This will run games like PUBG smoothly at medium graphics, but anything above that will cause framerate drops and lag. The 10nm chipset works well and helps reduce battery consumption while gaming.
Overall, the Galaxy A50s is a good mid-range player, but expect more from phones priced above Rs 20,000 today. Its speed is not close to what Redmi K20 brings in this segment. It feels much weaker than the Rs 16,000 Realme XT. The Galaxy A50s will work well as long as you don’t overdo it, but you’ll have to exercise caution.
The Galaxy A50s comes with One UI based on Android Pie. It is not clear when the phone will be updated to Android 10, but Samsung is very committed to upgrading its system to the latest version of Android. Now you know that One UI offers a system-wide dark mode, and the AMOLED display on the Galaxy A50s can take advantage of it.

One UI brings a clean, smooth interface with a new texture that lets you multitask with one hand. Aside from a few Samsung apps, Microsoft Office apps, and third-party apps like Helo, DailyHunt, and Snapchat, you won’t find much bloatware on the Galaxy A50s.
The Galaxy A50s has an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Biometric options are slow compared to brands like Oppo, Realme and Vivo. For example, the fingerprint sensor is slow and the animations are not smooth at all. The bottom speakers are loud, but not clear at high levels. The Galaxy A50s supports Dolby Atmos surround sound with wired and Bluetooth headphones.
Samsung has improved the triple camera setup on the Galaxy A50s. While the A50 offered a 25-megapixel primary camera, the Galaxy A50s has a 48-megapixel sensor that keeps it in line with the competition. The other two cameras in the setup include an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The selfie camera has also increased from 25 megapixels to 32 megapixels.
The Galaxy A50s cameras can take on phones like the Redmi K20 and Realme XT. Their main camera can take really good photos during the day, which is not surprising. If there is enough light in your area, the Galaxy A50s will take stunning photos.

However, the phone starts to struggle in low light. A dedicated night mode still doesn’t capture the kind of computer graphics that Oppo and Xiaomi can. Even with the highest level of noise reduction, images will look blurry and the overall image will look soft rather than sharp and detailed.
Easily switch between the main camera and the wide-angle lens to add more space to the frame. The wide angle is perfect for difficult areas or when you want a new perspective. Keep in mind that the quality drops significantly when you go to the 8-megapixel wide-angle lens. Compared to the main high-definition camera, the wide-angle photos will not be as clear and sharp. Also, the color tone will change a lot and the image will look darker compared to the main camera.
The Galaxy A50s can record sharp and engaging videos in 1080p and 4K formats. It can record 4K video at 30 fps, which looks good, but is shakier than 1080p video. The camera gets EIS (electronic stabilization) for 1080p recording, which is more than enough if you’re shooting handheld while walking.
The improved front camera captures bright and natural selfies during the day when the beauty effect is disabled. As it gets dark indoors or after sunset, the sharpness and clarity of your selfies will decrease.

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy A50s is not considered necessary for the upgrade. It has the same 4,000mAh capacity as the original A50, which is fine. The Galaxy A50s will last a full day on a single charge, but don’t expect this phone to go beyond that. I found the battery life to be consistent no matter what I did throughout the day. Battery consumption is minimal in standby mode, and you can use Always-On Display without worrying about running out of battery.
