When we say design tastes like blue are cheap, we really mean cheap. This phone is priced at $180 and is really well made for the price.

It’s made entirely of plastic, but we think the blue color and textured back are fun to hold. Here’s a cool one or two. We get dual-SIM support via a dedicated microSD card slot and headphone jack.

To ease your expectations, our hips feel a little looser and bend inward when pressed.
Otherwise, you get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security. The odd misread or two is possible, but we’ve found it to be quite fast and reliable.

The display screen is good, at least dim enough so you don’t accidentally go blind at night.

The panel isn’t AMOLED, so don’t expect amazing colors, but the IPS technology it’s equipped with can at least avoid burn-in, no ghosting, and still provide enough color for the average person. Another thing we should note is that you won’t get any crazy high refresh rates here, with a resolution of 720*1600 pixels, but that’s to be expected in this price range.
The CIE 1931 xy color gamut table represents the range of colors (areas) a screen can reproduce, and the sRGB color space (lit triangle) serves as a reference. This chart also shows the display’s color accuracy. The small squares on the border of the triangle are the reference points for the various colors, and the small dots are the actual measurements. Ideally, each point should be above the corresponding square. The ‘x:CIE31’ and ‘y:CIE31’ values in the table below the table indicate the position of each measurement on the diagram. “Y” represents the luminance of each standard color, and “target Y” is the desired luminance of that color. The camera just works as it should and we are very happy. Given enough sunlight, we got some really nice shots with decent sharpness.
The images don’t really blow us away, but they’re good enough for average use. We have no complaints here. And the HDR performance was really good. Even in sunny conditions, the shade was very light and the sky was too bright.
You also get a secondary, ultra-wide-angle camera here, which isn’t quite as sharp, but it still produces some great vacation photos.
We don’t recommend zooming in because we don’t have a dedicated lens for this, but some photos come out pretty good, and the colors are pretty good.

The subject comes out quite well in most situations, and the selfie camera is also quite good when given enough light.
A complaint from us. Night mode would be a nice feature to include here, as it’s useful for some people, and its lack limits what we can draw at night.
For example, you can’t really see any faces here, so our colleague had to go with more light.
We also get a macro camera here, which we think is mostly a gimmick. It produces good colors and is good for close-up photography, but it’s not really that sharp, and we’d rather spend our budget elsewhere.

The videos aren’t too messy. You can shoot up to 1080p at 30fps. It’s not really amazing or anything, but the quality is at least decent for some family vacation videos or the like. But one more thing we should mention is that the microphone on this device has a bit of trouble recording audio when there is background noise, so keep that in mind if you’re shooting in crowded places or on busy streets. Don’t expect any video stabilization here, which could be a big problem if you plan to shoot on the go.
Well, let’s just say it’s not a race winner, but it’s not hopelessly slow or sloppy.
The Galaxy A12 is equipped with a budget Helio P35 SoC. It’s not really for gaming or anything like that, so we tried some Minecraft, but watching videos and browsing the web did some things smoothly. We mainly visited Reddit, watched some YouTube, and got a little titty.
We also noticed that it doesn’t get too hot while playing Minecraft, which is great. No pun intended.

You may notice that apps take a while to open, but once they do, they usually work fine. Having such a weak processor also has the surprising advantage of using very little power.
How much is the battery? The battery capacity you get here is around 5000mAh. It’s really amazing. If you don’t use the phone a lot you can expect more than 2 days of use. Again, like any other device on the market, you’ll need to charge it on the same day if you use it frequently. You get a fast charger in the box, but keep in mind that “fast” here is only 15 watts, which will still take a few hours to fully charge the battery.
You get a funky blue design, a good camera for family vacations, good performance and battery for everything except gaming, and the engineers had to give the phone some space on the back.
But we’re not sure if it’s the right device for this price. It sacrifices performance. For example, you can get the Oneplus Nord N100 for the same price, which offers a more powerful processor and a better performing camera.

Or if you’re looking for something more powerful, the Moto G Power has a Snapdragon 662 that beats the A12 by Rs 20 more.
So it depends on preference and what you want in a device. Generally, we’re impressed with what affordable phones can do these days, but what about you?
