Update Release Date Samsung A51 Review

Update Release Date Samsung A51 Review – According to Samsung’s website, the Samsung Galaxy A51, one of the company’s most popular mid-range smartphones, is now only updated twice a year instead of four. Most Samsung phones, including A-series devices, will get three Android operating system upgrades and four years of security updates. The phone, just over two years old and receiving just one of three Android OS upgrades, has been relegated to receiving biannual security updates from last quarter. The Samsung Galaxy A51 was last refreshed in February 2022. The Samsung Galaxy A51 5G, on the other hand, still promises to receive quarterly security updates.

Samsung typically promises four years of security updates for its smartphones. These updates are released monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually, depending on the phone. According to the Samsung Netherlands website, first spotted by GSMArena, the Galaxy A51 used to receive quarterly updates, which means the smartphone used to receive new updates every three months, which has now changed to semi-annual.

Last year, three of the five best-selling phones in the world were Samsung phones, ranking third, fourth and fifth behind the iPhone, according to Counterpoint Research. XR and 11. If you live in the US, when you think of Samsung, you probably think of the Galaxy S or the Note, but the Samsung phones that sell so well are the mid-range Galaxy A-series phones.

Samsung is taking a big step to sell more of these phones in the US with the $399 Galaxy A51. That price puts it in direct competition with the iPhone SE, but there are plenty of other Android phones available for under $500. What sets the A51 apart is Samsung’s marketing budget and partnerships. It’s available unlocked on Amazon’s and Samsung’s sites, which is important for mid-range Samsung devices, and it’s also on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and Xfinity Mobile.

Compared with the iPhone SE, the main attraction of the A51 is its screen, a large 6.5-inch OLED. Samsung says the phone is “great” in three areas: screen, camera,

Battery Life. It even made a crazy ad full of memes promoting the points. (You should check it out, because the ads are really good.) Unfortunately, the Galaxy A51 isn’t that great.

The Galaxy A51 doesn’t look or feel like a budget phone at all. It’s big and well put together. Samsung says the material it uses is called “Glasstic,” and it sounds much funkier than it actually feels. It almost feels like glass, but it has the hollow feel of plastic.

It comes with 128 GB of internal storage, and the price tag of $399 is very generous. Plus, you can expand it with microSD storage. There’s also a headphone jack, a welcome addition at any price point, but a little more important than usual.

My favorite part of the Galaxy A51 is the screen. It’s just a well-made 6.5-inch OLED that’s bright even in sunlight. If you’re looking for advanced screen technology like colors that adapt to ambient light, high refresh rates, or even ultra-high resolution, look elsewhere. But at 1080 x 2400, there are more than enough pixels even at this screen size. I’ve seen a lot of cheap big screens on Android phones, but this isn’t one of them.

Every phone has compromises, and a $399 phone is more than $1,000. So phone makers have to choose their priorities, and Samsung clearly chose the screen. Since it’s something that people view and interact with hundreds of times a day, it’s a good choice.

But I can nitpick – not about the screen but what’s underneath – especially the hole-punch selfie camera. I’m fine with the punch hole camera. In fact, I usually prefer it to a notch of any size. But for unknown reasons, Samsung put a small chrome ring around the camera. When the light hits it, it sticks out at certain angles, and then it’s hard to go unnoticed. This is very strange.

Another thing below the screen is an optical fingerprint sensor. I’m not sure if Samsung just hasn’t iterated these sensors enough or what, but it’s pretty slow. It may take a second for the green animation to vibrate to let you know the phone is unlocked. It’s also not the most accurate sensor, especially in direct sunlight.

Unfortunately, that review also extends to the processor and RAM. Most famous Samsung phones in the US use Qualcomm processors, but this A51 uses the Samsung Exynos 9611, a mid-range chip that doesn’t quite make this phone feel punchy. Apps take a long time to load, especially if they haven’t been opened recently and thus haven’t been running in 4GB of RAM.

Once you’re in a browser or application, things continue at a good enough pace. But sometimes it struggles to display the screen or load the next item in the feed.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: A Good Screen Paired With Not So Good Performance

As I said, different phone makers have to choose their priorities for these cheaper phones. For example, Apple kept the same old iPhone 8 casing for the iPhone SE, with a smaller screen and larger bezels, but with the fastest mobile processor available: the A13 Bionic. Samsung chose to go the other way.

Battery life is okay, but not quite up to Samsung’s “long-lasting” claim. I’ve had just over a day with it — certainly better than what I’ve had on the iPhone SE. But with a 4,000 mAh battery and a 1080p display, I’m a little surprised I’m not getting any better. In theory, these specs should add up to be more impressive, and I wonder if the Exynos processor is partly to blame.

Finally, there’s the camera system, which consists of more lenses than necessary. The main lens has a 48-megapixel sensor that outputs standard 12-megapixel images. The images, like almost all cameras these days, are good enough in good light. I was pleasantly surprised to see proper white balance, something Samsung sometimes lacks. But Samsung’s other undesirable tendency to unnaturally boost shadows persists.

You probably know what’s coming next: It crashes badly in low light — even worse than the iPhone SE. When you really zoom in on the A51’s details, it’s a lot more cluttered than other smartphone cameras, also at 48 megapixels.

There’s a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 5-megapixel macro camera, all of which are more about having fun than taking great photos. as long as it’s fun! I love using these cameras. There’s also a “5-megapixel” depth camera that doesn’t seem to be doing anything useful, at least as far as portrait mode is concerned. Finally, the selfie camera is 32 megapixels, and the resulting photos often look over-processed.

Finally there is the software. Samsung’s One UI tweaks on top of Android continue to make larger-screen phones more enjoyable to use. But Samsung’s willingness to let carriers ruin phones with crapware continues: My Verizon-based review unit is an absolute mess of games and services that no one wants. I also wish I could say I trust this phone to get the software
