Xiaomi claims that its new budget smartphone will set the standard in the price segment with the specifications on offer. So, is the Redmi Note 11S the best smartphone under Rs 20,000 in India? After using the budget smartphone for a few days, here is our Redmi Note 11S review.

Redmi Note 11S Review: The Redmi Note 11S shares some key specs with the Redmi Note 11, with the main differences being in the processor and camera department. The screen is the same 6.43 inches. It comes with an AMOLED screen to ensure vivid colors. Xiaomi’s new budget smartphone under Rs 20,000 offers a 90Hz refresh rate panel for a smooth scrolling experience. However, the display refresh rate is set to 60Hz by default and you have to manually switch to 90Hz to get a higher refresh rate.

Redmi Note 11S Review: Despite being a budget smartphone, the Redmi Note 11S has a surprisingly bright display. Even under direct sunlight, the screen provides a good level of brightness. It also has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection against scratches.
Redmi Note 11S review: While the AMOLED display offers a great viewing experience, what makes the deal even better is the dual speaker setup. The volume of the speakers is sufficient to provide a good multimedia experience. The earpiece on my Redmi Note 11S review unit isn’t as loud as the main speaker on the bottom edge. However, you will get a very good audio experience. The top edge has a 3.5mm headphone jack next to the faux speaker grill.
Redmi Note 11S Review: One of the main differences between the vanilla Note 11 and the 11S is the processor. The other comes with the MediaTek Helio G96 SoC, which is a slightly improved version of the Helio G95 chipset found in the Redmi Note 10S. You also get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Redmi Note 11S review: The processor delivers very good performance for the price. Be it everyday tasks like opening multiple apps or playing games, the Redmi Note 11S has a capable performance unit. We played Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Asphalt 9 on budget smartphones under Rs 20,000. The game supports HD graphics with high frame rate. This combination is 30 fps. around, this may not lead to a great gaming experience. I recommend dropping the graphics settings to Balanced and then supporting the Ultra frame rate setting around 40fps. I played BGMI with the aforementioned graphics settings and didn’t notice any major lag or stuttering. So, if you happen to like gaming, you might want to consider the device.

Redmi Note 11S review: Another area where the Redmi Note 11S scores is battery life. Despite having an AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and always-on full brightness, the Redmi Note 11S lasted more than a day for most of the review time. On days with extended gaming, the screen-on time on a full charge is about 7.5 hours. You also get a 33W fast charger in the box that charges the phone in under an hour using proprietary charging technology. Use another fast charger and the phone will take about an hour and 30 minutes to fully charge.
Redmi Note 11S Review: Like the vanilla model, the Redmi Note 11S runs MIUI 13 out of the box, but has Android 11 underneath. It’s been a few months since Android 12 launched, and we expected the Note 11S to run Android 12 from scratch in 2022. Hopefully an update will come soon. Overall, MIUI 13 aims to provide system-level improvements that enhance the user experience. These include an optimized file storage system, priority processor optimization, and more.
Redmi Note 11S Review: In terms of design, the phone is very similar to the Redmi Note 11. The polycarbonate back is curved towards the edges of the flat frame, thus providing a comfortable grip. It is very light in hand at only 179 grams.

Colors are not oversaturated, but tend to provide a realistic look. In low light, the main camera sensor captures well-defined images without overexposing bright areas. There is a bit of noise in the dark areas of the image, but I didn’t expect the best low-light camera performance from a sub-Rs 20,000 smartphone. Redmi Note 11S review: The device also has three camera sensors and most of them are useful in most situations. The Redmi Note 11S camera setup has an 8MP ultra-wide camera, which performs well. You get a wider frame with better colors. If you look at the pixels, you’ll see that the details are softer. Just avoid using the 2MP trash can macro camera and instead use the 108MP mode and crop further to get detailed close-up shots of subjects. Redmi Note 11S Review: The Redmi Note 11S has a hole-punch at the top for its 16MP front-facing camera, which delivers very good photos. The selfie camera on the Note 11S captures correct skin tones in most cases, but the software tends to cast shadows on photos. Redmi Note 11S Review: Xiaomi has introduced some nice improvements on the Redmi Note 11S. The device offers a good multimedia experience with its AMOLED display and dual speaker setup. You also get a 90Hz refresh rate panel. However, we expect more games to support it to take advantage of this high refresh rate. The performance unit won’t disappoint the casual gamer in you, and for the watch enthusiast, the 5,000 mAh battery will last you a day. The camera performance of the Redmi Note 11S is also very impressive for the price. However, we wish the Redmi 10 Pro’s 5MP macro camera would do the same. Android 11 based software really brings some downsides to the budget smartphone of 2022. We hope that Xiaomi will update MIUI 13 with the latest Android 12 update and bring some nice features offered by Google.

Redmi Note 11S Review Conclusion: If your budget is around Rs 16,500, we recommend you buy the Redmi Note 11S. The device comes with excellent hardware that provides a good smartphone experience. Of course, there are phones in the price range that come with slightly faster processors. However, the Redmi Note 11S, as a whole package, offers great value for money.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G looks similar to the Redmi Note 10. The dimensions are similar, but the rear camera module is only slightly different. Like the Note 10 Pro, the Note 11 Pro is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The back has a matte finish that doesn’t attract fingerprints easily.
One of the notable changes in the Note 11 Pro 5G is the flat bezel, which makes it easier to hold and has a premium look. However, it uses a less advanced plastic frame. From the back, it looks modern from the front as well, with minimal cutouts and slim bezels keeping it fresh.
