Sneha Saha: Xiaomi has launched several smartphones in India this year. This includes the impressive Redmi 7 series, Redmi Note 7 series and Redmi K20 phones. Of all the Xiaomi phones we’ve reviewed this year, our favorite is the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Sure, the Redmi K20 Pro is the more impressive phone, but the Redmi Note 7 Pro is a better deal and, in our opinion, more monumental due to its lower price. Now a new phone has arrived and it is the Redmi Note 8 Pro. This is the best phone launched by Xiaomi this year.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Review
Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India last week. As the name suggests, the Note 8 Pro is the successor to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. After using the Note 8 Pro for a few days, I can say that it is a great upgrade over the Note 7 Pro. Design, performance, display, cameras, battery. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is an improvement over the Note 7 Pro.
It looks like Xiaomi has started taking the design of its phones very seriously. All the new Xiaomi phones have an attractive design. If you remember, all note phones from Xiaomi to Redmi Note 6 Pro looked dull and boring. The Redmi Note 7 Pro changed all that. The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with a drop notch, dual Gorilla Glass 5 body and a gradient finish. As I mentioned in the full review, the Redmi Note 7 Pro is one of the best Note phones out there. The design of the new Redmi Note 8 Pro has been improved as it has taken inspiration from the Redmi K20.
Redmi Note 8 Pro Rs. 15,000 doesn’t look like a smartphone. It looks premium. It looks elegant. It looks expensive. The standout design of the Note 8 Pro comes down to the dual Gorilla Glass 5 protection and Aura design that Xiaomi has been using on its phones for a while now. I love the design of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Not only does the smartphone look sleek and premium, but its well-curved edges complement the overall look of the smartphone.
However, there is one thing I miss here: the compact form factor of the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is huge and I can use it with one hand unlike the Redmi Note 7 Pro which definitely requires two hands most of the time. The camera bump is also slightly prominent compared to the Redmi Note 7 Pro. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back panel of the phone, just inside the camera module. In my opinion, the fingerprint sensor should have been placed below the camera setup to make it easier for users to reach. I mostly use AI face unlock on this phone.

The screen used on the Redmi Note 8 Pro is almost as good as the screen on the more expensive Redmi K20 Pro. Over the past few days, I’ve used the phone in all kinds of lighting scenarios, both day and night. The Note 8 Pro screen offers a great multimedia and viewing experience in any lighting conditions. In good light, a screen brightness level of 40 percent is fine for me. The efficiency of outdoor lighting is 80 percent.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a larger screen compared to the Note 7 Pro. It has the largest screen in the Redmi Note series. The Redmi Note 8 Pro features a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080p and a screen-to-body ratio of 91.4 percent. Similar to the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Note 8 Pro also comes with a notch, but the notch design is different and better. Users who don’t like the notch can go to settings and disable it.
I played games, watched videos on YouTube and movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and browsed social media apps like Facebook and Twitter using the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In all scenarios, the Redmi Note 8 Pro screen looks great.
Redmi Note 9 Review
For the first time ever, a Redmi Note phone has five cameras – four on the back and one on the front – housed inside a notch cutout. This is Xiaomi’s first smartphone to come with a 64MP camera and the second in India. First up is the Realme XT. So how does the 64 MP camera work? Is it better than the Redmi Note 7 Pro’s already impressive 48MP camera? Well, it is. Clear.
Redmi Note 7 Pro clicks stunning pictures in any lighting conditions. That’s what I said in the full Redmi Note 7 Pro review. I have to say the same about the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The primary camera uses a 64MP image sensor, the secondary is an 8MP ultra-wide lens, the third is a 2MP depth sensor and the fourth is a 2MP macro lens. For selfies, the Redmi Note 8 Pro uses a 20MP camera.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro clicks detailed images with accurate colors in good light and low light. If the scene is too dark, there is a night mode that allows the camera sensor to capture more light and produce a brighter result. I mainly use the default photo mode as it clicks great pictures with lots of detail and striking colors. The Camera app has a 64MP camera mode. Images clicked in 64MP camera mode look similar to photos clicked in default photo mode.
I clicked several macro shots with the Redmi Note 8 Pro and I think this is an area where the phone needs to improve. Macro images taken with the Redmi Note 8 Pro often lose detail and color. Xiaomi may be rolling out a software update to improve the smartphone’s macro photography.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro’s 20MP front-facing camera also does quite well with selfies. The smartphone clicks detailed selfies in good light but the camera loses some details in low light. Users who want to apply filters to their photos don’t need to install a third-party editing application, as Xiaomi offers many of them in the camera app itself.
This is one area where some users are skeptical about the Redmi Note 8 Pro. why It has to do with the chipset that the company uses inside the Redmi Note 8 Pro. This time, the Note company has opted for a MediaTek chip instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s new G90T gaming chipset. The smartphone comes in three configurations – 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. I’m using the top-end model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows users to expand storage space up to 512 GB.
So how does the MediaTek G90T chip work? During my time with the Redmi Note 8 Pro, I found the smartphone to offer smooth performance. The phone is good at multitasking. I use a smartphone as my main device. In other words, I was watching videos, using multiple applications like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, WhatsApp at the same time, playing games, browsing the internet. At no point did the Redmi Note 8 Pro lag or show signs of stuttering. I played graphic heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 on the Redmi Note 8 Pro and both ran very smoothly on the smartphone. It should be mentioned here that the smartphone sometimes gets a little warm during long PUBG sessions.
Redmi Note 8 Pro already comes with MIUI 10 operating system based on Android 9 Pie. During the launch of the phone, the company confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 Pro will receive the MIUI update by the end of 2019. Redmi Note 8 Pro with MIUI 10 offers ads – I think the ads are somewhat controlled – dark mode, game turbo and many pre-installed applications that users can remove if needed.
