Update Redmi 9 B Review

Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand focuses on entry-level and mid-range devices, and the Redmi 9 epitomizes its quest. The Redmi 9 is aggressively priced at just $160 – give or take a few bucks. That’s seven or eight times less than the leading flagships. The question is, are you getting seven or eight times less from your smartphone? Or – in other words – what did $160 buy you and what did you lose?

Xiaomi Redmi 9

About this Redmi 9 review: I spent a week testing the Redmi 9. The device runs MIUI Global 11.0.4, which is based on Android 10 with the June 2020 security patch installed.

The Redmi 9 is the latest model in the vanilla Redmi series, which is the series that launched the Redmi brand in 2013. Price remains the key factor. But that didn’t stop Xiaomi from packing four camera sensors, a Full HD display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, USB-C, fast charging, reverse charging and an IR blaster into the Redmi 9.

To achieve the low price, the Redmi 9 will differ from the more expensive devices in terms of performance, RAM and storage. The price also reflects the construction, with no fancy alloys, no chamfered edges and no curved look. There is a lot of plastic and the overall impression is simple. However, this does not mean that the building is of poor quality. Redmi 9 looks solid. I’ve always handled it with confidence and never worried about it splitting at the seams.

Given the context, namely price and value for money, the Redmi 9 is very good. I have to admit that I was a little concerned when I heard that I was going to review the device. However, after using the Redmi 9 for a while, I have to punish myself for my prejudices. I did not expect such a pleasant experience from a smartphone for 160 dollars. Don’t take it the wrong way. It’s not the Samsung Galaxy S20 or the OnePlus 8. But if my budget is tight and I’m parting with my hard-earned money, I’ll be happy with the Redmi 9.

Redmi 9 Power With 6000mah Battery, Snapdragon 662, Miui 12 Launched

The back of the phone is made of plastic, but Xiaomi turns that into a plus point. Surrounding the camera module is an attractive circular design that Xiaomi says “provides a sense of balance and elegance.” This really isn’t a bad way to describe it. Kudos to the copywriter. The back is textured, which improves grip and prevents fingerprints.

Redmi 9 comes in three colors: Carbon Grey, Ocean Green and Sunset Purple. Each has a gradient design that greatly reduces dullness.

The 6.53-inch FHD+ screen has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio that offers a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080. Brightness, colors and viewing angles are great. The color temperature can be adjusted in the settings using the “warm” and “cool” options next to the default values.

The Redmi 9 also supports Sunlight Mode, sometimes known as Assertive Display. When you go out into the hot sun, your phone will try to increase visibility by increasing the brightness. But screen brightness can only take you so far. Thanks to its distinctive appearance, this device is also able to increase the visibility of darker areas while preventing already lighter areas from fading. It’s a nice feature at this price point.

The Redmi 9 runs Xiaomi’s own version of Android called MIUI. The device comes with MIUI Global 11 which is based on Android 10. This includes Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Photos and Google Assistant.

There are also some special MIUI apps like Mi Browser, Theme manager, Mi Calculator, FM radio app, Mi Mover and Mi Remote app for IR blaster. There are also several pre-installed games including Crazy Juicer, Dust Settle and Bubble Shooter with Friends. You can uninstall the game if necessary.

One of the ways Xiaomi has kept prices low is by incorporating ads into MIUI itself, not just apps. For example, when you install an app from the Play Store, there’s a good chance you’ll see ads on the final screen after installation. We don’t have this strategy in love.

The core of Redmi 9 is MediaTek Helio G80 and 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage, or 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Helio G80 is an octa-core processor with 2 x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 cores, 6 x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. For context, the Cortex-A75 was launched in 2017 and is the CPU core design used in processors like the Snapdragon 845 found in phones like the OnePlus 6.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 Receives Early Miui 13 And Android 12 Update Globally

The Redmi 9 isn’t a gaming phone, but that doesn’t mean it can’t play games. I installed various casual games like Temple Run 2, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Brawl Stars and they all played really well. After upping the ante, I installed Asphalt 9 and Need For Speed: No Limits. Both are playable. However, I noticed occasional lag in Asphalt 9.

I ended up trying Fortnite and PUBG. Both are playable, but don’t expect high frame rates and detailed graphics. Fortnite doesn’t officially support Redmi 9 and it shows a warning when you start the game, but you can play. The default Fortnite setting for this device is 20 frames per second with low quality settings and 3D resolution at 75%. PUBG ran well with balanced graphics, medium framerate and no anti-aliasing.

For those who like benchmark numbers, the Redmi 9 scores 359 and 1,287 on Geekbench – single-core and multi-core – and 196,939 on AnTuTu.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Price List In Philippines & Specs November, 2022

As for sound, there is a single speaker at the bottom next to the USB-C port. The sound is what you would expect from such a setup. It works, but the music can be thin and lack fidelity. It’s easy to overdrive speakers; a small volume reduction will improve the quality. There is also a headphone jack on the bottom edge. For games and movies, using headphones will give you a better experience.

Good battery life has been a constant demand of smartphone users. Since the Redmi 9 doesn’t have many fancy features, good battery life is very important. The Redmi 9 has a 5,020mAh battery that supports up to 18W Quick Charge 3.0. In the package, you get a 10W charger that charges the device from 0% to 25% in 38 minutes, from 0% to 50% in 72 minutes, from 0% to 80% in less than two hours, and from 0% full in three hours. That’s slow.

During testing, I found that you can play about eight hours of 3D games or watch YouTube for 14 hours on a single charge. That means you’ll get a full day of battery life — maybe more — depending on your usage.

Redmi 9 also supports reverse OTG charging. With the right cable, in my case USB-C to USB-C, I can charge another Android phone. Very useful in an emergency!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Review: Software, Performance

The Redmi 9 has a quad-camera setup, which is a huge improvement over the Redmi 8. The main sensor is a 13MP v

/2.2, supported by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 5MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor.

Overall, the camera is above average if you consider the price level. Portrait mode works pretty well through the rear camera, and pro mode gives you manual control over settings like ISO and white balance. The 8MP ultra-wide sensor is a great addition to landscape photography. However, the wide-angle lens has a fixed focus, which limits its use in some situations.

The camera app doesn’t include any night mode, which means you need good lighting to get the best results. Any attempts to take photos in low light will cause noise or become unusable. Things are slightly improved with a built-in AI mode that recognizes scenes such as landscapes, food and people. It also recognizes situations with poor lighting and tries to compensate for them. Overall, the camera’s low-light performance is poor.

To use the macro lens, you need to enable it in the camera menu. The main problem with macro cameras is the absence of any autofocus or focus assist. This means that it is difficult to focus on the subject. Of the 15 or so shots I took, only one focused.

The device supports video at 30 frames per second in 1080p or 720p resolution. There are no other modes except slow motion, which is limited to 720p and can be
