The Star Wars galaxy is filled with unique starships to suit every boss and the ruthless commander of the droid army, General Grievous. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith cinematically introduced the General’s ship while The Clone Wars gave starfighter Ark-Clenker more screen time. Chronologically in Star Wars, the ship was last seen after the tense Battle of Utapau, which claimed the last remaining life in Grievous’ cyborg body and forced Obi-Wan Kenobi to commandeer the ship to avoid inconvenience below.

This dark and terrifying ship appears in its third minifigure scale in August 2020: LEGO® Star Wars 75286 General Grievous’s Starfighter. This build is very reminiscent of the previous set and introduces some new, re-colored slope elements.

Lego Star Wars August 2020 Neuheiten In Der Übersicht

This set features three Episode III minifigures and a cast of 487 pieces, priced at US$79.99 / £74.99 / 79.99€. We can skip the math – that’s a pretty steep price per piece, especially since this set has some unusual elements and the earlier versions were more affordable. The set of large gray slopes and plates may be useful to some of you, but the price may be tough for even the pathetic clinker-curved enthusiast.

Soulless One’s starship Grievous was introduced in 2005’s Final Revenge of the Sith prequel trilogy – two years after Grievous and his ship first became available in official LEGO form. 2010 introduced the second Soulless One, a twice larger set that kept the ship’s key design features intact, while the Grievous minifigure was completely rebuilt with new molding and die details.

Ten years has produced many new elements to update the Soulless One with some new tricks and colors. This Grievous-ahem-ship has been updated with a warm color scheme thanks to modern gold/pearl warm accents and dark orange. Those gold engine accents add more color than the ship features on screen, but the dark orange and dark brown tiles are spot on.

The general structure of the previous two ships is still easily recognizable. The General Grievous starship features a sliding cockpit canopy, alternating display tile colors and a series of 90-degree technical connections that secure the outboard engines.

The thump engine is the most visible update of the 2010 version, which is now wider, features fewer buttons, no stickers, and has a larger opening compartment to serve as storage for the general’s collection of stolen lightsabers. The clip (63868) and locking hinge brick mechanism (54671) come with a satisfying little click to lock each door. The ship’s three rapid-fire laser cannons are represented by two onboard snipers and a spring-loaded dart launcher centered on the underbody, each with an assortment of ammunition. I put the ammo cache in a hold besides the lightsaber, but doing so made closing the overstuffed storage a challenge.

Each nacelle consists of a red 2×4 axle retaining brick (90258), featured in the LEGO Education SPIKE™ Prime set, and a white 2×2 round plate (4032) which provides the technology connection to the system. Those shallow 2×2 plates were used to provide every technical joint in both previous models – the thickness of the brick in the 2020 version definitely makes the joints sturdier. This stability comes at the expense of storage space, and in tight quarters it’s easy to open a door with the lightsaber handle.

The cockpit area uses relatively new slanted brickwork to detract from the streamlined exterior of the ship, while the interior has been completely updated with a molded control panel (85984pb127) and two upward fixed beam plates (4623b) forming the flying yoke. Price aside, I prefer the current design in every area except the yoke – the 2010 model featured a technically flexible dual-shaft connector (45590) that allows the yoke to rotate. Because of its similarity to 2010 ship designs, there’s enough room to duplicate this yankable yoke if you have spare Technik flex connectors and a few common spare parts.

The lower part reveals the layers of plates that form the spineless, er, soulless skeleton of the dastardly general. The sliding technique assembly extended the trigger of the crossbow launcher further back, but it was easy to fire accidentally without taking advantage of the black ditch under the cockpit.

The Brick Castle: Lego Star Wars General Grievous Buildable Figure Set 75112 Review

This little hardpoint provides enough grip on my hand to blow forcefully into the air without accidentally shooting a hair trigger every time. Until I figured out how to use this feature, I spent more time than I care to admit crawling across the floor looking for the missing missiles!

Finally, the landing gear/steering combination retains its simple design with a technical friction pin as the axis of rotation. Positional restraints used on the original 2007 model year landing gear feet were permitted, but less weight was placed on the landing gear when the ship was parked.

Since Grimm Grievous’ spaceship is dark gray from edge to edge, it is not surprising that 39% of the set’s 487 elements are dark blue gray (DBG). Some common parts such as the triple 16×4 wedge, 3×3 wedge plate and nose cone note their exact presence in this ship’s LEGO lineage.

The new generation of Starfighter Grievous takes two twists and turns set in the exciting world of DBG. Still unique to this set, the re-colored 8×2’s four long curved slopes (6302685 | 42918) gently taper off the sides of the cockpit and storage compartment door. While this size is new for 2019, Jonas Kramm notes that this 8×2 slope has the same profile as a 10×1 slope. As mentioned, sleek tilt siblings are included in the set – and you’d be right, they’re DBG.

While the ten sets now include these solid slopes in DBG, Starfighter Grievous is the first to include them. None of the other sets included as much – eight slopes form the lower outboard edge of the fighter’s engine.

After messing around with these they looked like a good mid-scale chair, so I just used the parts in this set to build a small Jedi Council Chamber. If you’re looking for fond memories of this room, you might want to try a different movie than Episode III.

One molding element unique to this set: 6 x 6 x 2 Canopy Windshield with Starfighter Pattern 2020 SW General Grievous (87606pb06) is the updated version of the windshield introduced in the 2010 Starfighter. 2020 updates the design with sharp edges instead of doubtful edges -a doubt and a long top window.

Three characters from the brutal duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith appear in this set. My personal favorite is the second airborne clone troop. This warrior combat kit features highly detailed prints on the legs, feet and chest. The centerpiece features the skirt of the traditional Mandalorian armor known as the Kama which is uniquely repainted in DBG. Despite the uniqueness of this figure, I love the role this character played in Obi-Wan’s history: because of a misguided clone belief, Kenobi managed to escape the strictures of the Galactic Empire.

Obi-Wan Kenobi 75269 Duel on Mustafar makes his second appearance since the figure was introduced in early 2020. The pockmarks on his cape weren’t the only ones from Mustafar’s lava planet – until Kenobi made Grievous the commander of the star fighters. Cyborg was betrayed by his clone after chasing him while riding a dinosaur. At this point, anyone needs a change of clothes for one reason or another!

Unlike the first two issues, Grievous is nothing new; His elaborate minifig in white armor was introduced in 2014 with the 75040 General Grievous Wheel Bike. Yellow/tan brick armor covers this same print on the 2010 and 2012 Clone Wars sets. Neither of the Lego colors perfectly represent Grievous’ ivory-colored armor, but the white surfaces of this figure look brighter on the double-molded legs than the torso. and printed sleeves. . Without my own pathetic tan to personally compare to, I consider a consistent tan from head to talonjack-ula. Imperfections aside, the figure has gravitas and I give it a warm “hello” in my collection.

Despite its price, General Grievous’ 75286 Starfighter is the best iteration of Soulless One to date. The playset has a cohesive cast of characters to recreate fan-favorite prequel-era scenes, and neutral-colored pieces tend to fit most builds, even if they’re like rocky cliffs. The changes from previous versions are not monumental but are well executed and are a good example of how a model can improve with each release. This ship looks better than ever and is made smarter.

However, price considered, it’s hard to justify unless you’re a huge fan of both
