Update Gsm Arena Samsung Galaxy S20 Review – Samsung has called its lighter version of the Galaxy S20 the Galaxy S20 Lite, rather than the Galaxy S20 FE, and we’re here to tell you that it’s a fitting name.
But before you do, here’s the unboxing. The retail package is nice – it has a matte white finish with little camera mode icons etched into it. But when we dig inside, we see the first signs that this is a low-end Galaxy S20 device – there’s a 15W charger straight out of 2018 and a regular USB-A to USB-C cable.

So why call it Fan Edition? Apparently because that’s exactly what it is. It’s made for that regular Samsung user who loves the non-scratch screen, plastic back panel, and wants their phone to be affordable!
Samsung Galaxy S20 Review: What More Could You Want?
The Galaxy S20 FE has Samsung’s flagship display. Its 6.5-inch Super AMOLED is large, bright and colorful, and more importantly, smooth, thanks to a 120Hz refresh rate. The bezels are thin and there’s a notch in the middle for the 32-megapixel selfie camera.
There’s an optical fingerprint scanner under the glass, and Samsung was nice enough to include a plastic screen protector in the box.
Looking at the Galaxy S20 FE’s cameras, you wouldn’t think it’s a weak version of the Galaxy S20/S20+. The normal + tele + ultrawide combination is worn and looks more like the regular S20s. The telephoto is 8MP instead of 12MP, but offers the same 3x zoom.
We’ll talk about the cameras in detail in our full review, but it looks like Samsung’s regular, capable cameras are what we’ve come to expect.

The battery is also not a weak version of the Galaxy S20+ battery. In fact, it looks to be the same 4,500mAh package as the Galaxy S20+, complete with support for 25W wireless charging and 15W wireless charging (and even 4.5W reverse wireless charging) – if you want a charger Buy faster separately. The corner you might feel more on the Galaxy S20 FE compared to the Galaxy S20/S20+ is the back panel. It’s plastic instead of glass, and it doesn’t look great, though it’s still quite insulated. However, it’s likely to scratch more easily than glass, so you might want to invest in a case as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is available for pre-order and will go on sale on October 2. You can choose the 4G model with Exynos 990 or the 5G model with Snapdragon 865 (non-Plus), which starts at 630 and 700 euros, respectively.
The price, in itself, is not unreasonable. But it’s dangerously close to the discounted Galaxy S20+, which can be had for around €700. It might be a good idea to wait a month or two before placing that order. But before that, stay tuned for our full review coming soon.

A very good phone with the worst battery life ever. The battery drains much faster than any other phone, even when the phone is on standby for about 7 hours, the battery drains at least 35-40%.
Unfortunately, the S20 FE suffers from software issues that make it difficult to use. The worst offender is the virtual proximity sensor. Long phone calls while walking are impossible, as you end the call by activating the screen and pressing… The Galaxy S20 FE has a clear Samsung look thanks to the central display hole and rear camera arrangement. Despite the obvious nod to the brand, the Fan Edition doesn’t quite get the S-series feel – it’s more of an A feel.
For example, the Fan Edition has thicker bezels all around, and we all know that nothing says “product” like minimal bezels. It’s not like the black bezel around the screen is too thick. It’s just that it’s not as “flagship-grade” as other S20s.

Another feature of high-end phones, especially in Samsung’s world, is the curved screen. Although they’ve toned down the effect on recent models, the S20 phones still have a millimeter of beveled edges on the sides. Well, FE is quite flat.
The punch hole is small, we’ll give the FE that – smaller than what the Note20 has, for what it’s worth. For example, it is also small on the Galaxy A51 5G.
Perhaps one of the most noticeable differences in the build quality of the Fan Edition compared to other S20s is the material used on the back. Where the S20 and S20+ use glass, the back panel of the S20 FE is plastic. It has a satin finish and is almost as smooth. While it hardly looks pristine, it’s certainly miles better than a glossy glass panel when it comes to fingerprinting.
Despite the change in materials, the Galaxy S20 FE is still IP68 – just like the big boys. Not that we expected the back panel to be more water permeable than a glass pane, it’s just that dust and water protection is hard to come by at this price point.

The S20 FE is available in six colors – Navy, Lavender, Mint, Red, Orange and White, all prefixed with Cloud. Our review unit is the most boring of the bunch, the Cloud Navy unit.
Up front, the AMOLED screen is covered by an indistinct glass — it’s probably not the sixth-generation Gorilla Glass you’ll see on the S20 and S20+, and it’s certainly not the Victus that the Note20 Ultra gets.
What hasn’t changed is the frame material – like the other S20s in the FE, it’s aluminum. The bits are also arranged equally along the frame. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side, in a slightly larger section of the narrow aluminum bezel, while nothing mars the minimalist left side. The bottom is the USB-C port, the main speaker and the main microphone.
At the top is the secondary microphone and card slot. In our back-to-back dual-SIM tray, you can fit a nano-SIM and microSD or two nano-SIMs, but you can’t do all three at the same time – like the S20 group.

The Galaxy S20 FE measures 159.8×74.5×8.4mm, which is 2mm shorter than the S20+, but 0.8mm wider and 0.6mm thicker. Although the difference in height is hardly noticeable, the extra thickness, marginal increase in width and flat front compared to the S20+ – and the S20+ have a larger display. Samsung will announce next week. generation of Galaxy S-series flagships, and we thought a look at last year’s model would be most appropriate. Our usual long-term review is usually about a month, maybe six weeks. This time the S20+ has been the browser’s daily driver for over 6 months, so you could argue that he has an even deeper bond with it than these types of articles.
