Update Galaxy Z Flip 3 5g Price Review

Update Galaxy Z Flip 3 5g Price Review – Samsung’s decision not to launch a Galaxy Note device at the end of 2021 pushed its third-generation foldable device into the limelight. While the higher-profile Galaxy Z Fold 3 has some pretty big shoes to fill as a power user option, the more compact and affordable Galaxy Z Flip 3 turns out to be aiming for the mainstream. But how did the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 hold up more than half a year after its launch? It’s time to revisit the flip device we originally declared a “deserved opportunity” to see if that’s still the case in our revisited Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 review.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 earned its four out of five stars as well as our Recommended award in our original review, which means that something was up when it launched. It should come as no surprise that the last six months have been good for a foldable device. In fact, it remains the class leader among clamshell-style devices, even as others jump into the fray.

Samsung didn’t reinvent the wheel for the third-generation Galaxy Z Flip, but took design to a new level. The screen remains the same at 6.7 inches, and you can still see the notch, but the whole package feels a lot more ready to go. It’s holding up well after over six months and still feels premium.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5g Review: Camera Quality

The addition of the official IPX8 waterproof rating is a nice touch, but keeping out dust is the biggest concern – particles can still cause damage if they get on the hinges and under the screen. So far I’ve been careful, even if every crack in the screen makes me nervous.

Perhaps the most noticeable change occurs when the phone is folded. The external display is bigger and more useful than ever. I use it to check most of my notifications and add widget after widget. Some of the more popular add-ons include music playback, timer, and weather, but new options are constantly being rolled out. External displays are still useful today, perhaps even more as I learn to conserve my precious battery life (more on that later).

As for the internal display, the 6.7-inch foldable panel packs a few extra pixels and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Switch seamlessly from one app to another and never miss a step since launch. However, the crease is still visible right in the middle. I wouldn’t say it got any worse in my use, and I’ve learned to ignore it.

Samsung has smoothed the edges of its Galaxy Z Flip 3, and a little tweak is enough. It makes the phone look a bit thicker, but easier to hold. Not once did I find myself accidentally pressing the edges of the screen while trying to maintain a good grip. The flatter edges also give off an industrial feel, making the Galaxy Z Flip 3 feel more ready for everyday life. Samsung’s previous designs felt more like phones to show off than ones built for everyday use.

That curved side also houses Samsung’s capacitive fingerprint reader. I’ve had very mixed experiences with side-mounted fingerprint readers on budget phones, but the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is in a class of its own. It’s almost instantaneous, and I find it unlocks even if I land about half of my footprints on the target. However, the phone is so tall that it’s difficult to reach the fingerprint reader if you have smaller hands.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 hasn’t lost a step since its launch. It arrives with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor on board – the same one you’ll find in the Galaxy S21 series. The CPU still runs like a hot knife through butter and I never noticed a lag or stutter as I went through the days. You can also choose between 128 or 256GB of internal storage, with both configurations offering 8GB of RAM. That’s not the 12GB you’ll find on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but it’s still more than enough for everyday tasks.

I noticed that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 heated up under heavy load, but it was never accompanied by any throttling. You may notice the temperature a bit more if you’re a power user, but it usually goes away after a few minutes of idle time. Battery life under heavy load is more of an issue, but, again, we’ll get to that in a moment.

In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. I never had a hard time staying connected, even with multiple Galaxy accessories bundled together. I’m having some trouble getting calls and texts, but that’s more likely a Verizon problem than anything else in my neck.

Spigen Air Skin Case Compatible With Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5g

The best way to compare Samsung’s performance is to take a look at the newer Galaxy S22 series. It launched with an updated Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, though you won’t notice the difference in day-to-day use. The newer chip offers slightly better benchmark results, but in everyday use the Galaxy Z Flip 3 can easily keep up with the latest flagships.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 originally shipped with Android 11 and One UI 3.1. The Samsung skin isn’t the lightest skin in the world, but it’s packed with more features than you could ever ask for. I often found myself reaching for the Edge panel to switch between apps, and Samsung’s optimizations for foldable screens help round out the experience. The camera app, for example, pushes your image preview above the fold while adding extra space for settings and controls below. Clever touches like these make One UI feel like it was made to be flipped over, not just slapped on top.

As promised, Samsung seems to have minimized its in-app ads for the latest version of One UI. However, the software remains imperfect. There’s still a surprising amount of bloatware for a $1,000 device, and it might take you a while to uninstall it. You get not only the full suite of Google apps, but Samsung alternatives and even some Microsoft apps on top. However, you should keep a few Samsung apps handy to get the most out of your smart home and connected device experience.

Apart from the already impressive Android skins, Samsung’s update policy is second to none. In fact, it got even better after the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The phone comes with a promise of three years of system updates with four years of security patches. Now, Samsung has extended support for a fourth year of system updates and a fifth year of security support. We’ve already received the Android 12 (One UI 4) update, but that means the phone will upgrade to Android 15 with a security update in late 2026 before being discontinued.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5g: Has The Foldable Phone Improved?

Android 12 is all about customization options, and Samsung’s support is among the best. You can customize the color palette to match your background, and there are widgets for almost anything. Samsung’s custom app icons can sometimes perfectly match the wallpaper, but that’s the beauty of the wide choice of color palettes. I change my wallpaper frequently and I haven’t found a version where the software is buggy.

Failure to meet the Editors’ Choice award means we found some flaws in our initial review to fail to provide full approval. Of course, you have the usual Samsung problems like a lack of a headphone jack, no charger in the box, and an inability to expand your space. However, the unique form factor comes with a few drawbacks of its own. They may not be breakers, but Samsung’s flaws prevent the fold from being the right size.

Battery life is a perfect example of how the unique form factor of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 fights against it. 3,300 mAh cells will always be a tough sell, especially with traditional flagships topping the 5,000 mAh mark. The small battery is one of the legacies of Samsung’s foldable predecessors, and it’s starting to lag behind the needs of modern flagships.

I found I could stretch the battery for a full day of use, but only if I was careful. I have to keep things bright and rely on the external display for most of my notifications. If I start scrolling through social media or get attached to a long phone call, it quickly becomes play for my battery life. You can always limit the phone’s refresh rate to 120Hz to stretch the battery a bit longer, but you don’t have to throw away a $1,000 device.

The 3,300mAh battery should last a day of moderate use, but the 15W charging leaves a lot to be desired.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3’s charging options paint a similar picture. While Samsung’s traditional flagships offer up to 25W wired charging, the foldable hits
