Ultra-smartphones from Samsung are characterized by their large dimensions right from the start and are very difficult to use with one hand. It’s the same as the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The smartphone measures an impressive 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9 mm and weighs 227 grams, making it 5 grams heavier than its predecessor. Despite the slight difference in weight, the S21 Ultra is slightly lighter and more balanced. With the S20 Ultra, I always felt like the device would fall out of my hand due to the extreme weight distribution. Samsung has finally eliminated this criticism of its predecessor, which of course does not mean that the S21 Ultra is a lightweight smartphone. I advise everyone to hold the device in their hands before buying it. If you like big, heavy and thick smartphones, you get a lot for your money here. Personally, this would be too much for me, and I often find it difficult to use the device with one hand.

The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, the strongest glass currently used in a smartphone. Unfortunately, I can’t confirm if this is actually the case, since I’m using the device with a pre-installed screen protector. When you open the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, you are greeted by a large screen, which is interrupted only by a small, located in the central hole where Samsung placed the front camera. The edges around the panel are smaller than in the previous one. For now, that’s the only thing that can be done here with the Galaxy note 20 ultra and I cooked the Huawei P40 Pro + stay tuned. Many will be happy that the manufacturer has reduced the rounding on both sides of the Ultra panel this year, which means no misalignment in my daily use.
Next, let’s take a closer look at the frame. It consists of metal with a high gloss finish and is therefore susceptible to fingerprints and scratches. While the left side of the frame is kept completely blank, the South Korean manufacturer has installed buttons for louder and quieter on the right side. The on/off button is located below it. Despite the large form factor, all keys are within easy reach. The USB-C port, a microphone and one of the two speakers are located at the bottom. The other is integrated into the earphone. Of course we will look at the quality of the speakers later. Samsung then installed two more microphones on top.
When we turn the smartphone over, the silver color we tried immediately catches our attention. It’s matte, which means it doesn’t pick up fingerprints easily and often looks different depending on the lighting. If this color is too colorful for you, Samsung has four more, more subtle colors on offer: black, gray, blue and brown.

In addition to the color, you should immediately notice the new design of the camera in the upper left corner. Samsung brings something new here that I haven’t seen in any other smartphone in this form factor. The camera tray extends from the frame of the device to the back. I’m a big fan of it and I’m always speechless when I compare the design of the S20 Ultra to the S21 Ultra. Samsung has taken a big step forward here. Unfortunately, the camera bump protrudes a bit from the housing, making the S21 Ultra wobble a bit when used on a table.

There is absolutely no reason to criticize the killing. Nothing creaks here, nothing shakes here and overall it gives a very solid impression. The keys fit well in the case and have a good pressure point.

One of the highlights is the built-in OLED screen on the front. It has an impressive 6.8 inches and has a sharp resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels. Individual pixels are not recognizable in everyday life. In addition, the panel supports a smooth refresh rate of 120Hz and this year it will finally be available in WQHD+ resolution at the same time. In addition, there is a so-called LTPO screen, which was introduced on the Note 20 Ultra. LTPO technology allows the smartphone to switch between different refresh rates.

I can only say positive things about the quality. Starting with excellent and realistic color reproduction, OLED-typical excellent black value, white value, up to exceptional brightness. No other screen is as bright in automatic mode. As a result, even on sunny days there are no problems with wetness. But unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with the stability of the viewing angle, which is not bad at all, but compared to the competition and considering the high price, I would have expected more. Samsung may improve this in future smartphones.
The internal user interface A UI of version 3.1, based on Android 11, is used as software. A UI is a customized interface that has nothing to do with standard Android. However, I really like it, because the idea of One UI is to be able to operate smartphones reasonably well with one hand even with large screens. There are also some additional features, such as eye protection mode, a good gesture control, an excellent constant display and double tap to turn on and off. In addition, Samsung promises to provide the device with updates for four years.

I didn’t notice anything negative here, but the current turns when playing games, taking pictures or running a benchmark. Only then the smartphone can be noticed, but in any way alarming, warm. It only happens in summer when the temperature is higher. It became a problem.
Samsung equipped the S21 Ultra with a 5,000 mAh battery that can be easily charged up to 25 watts. However, you need to purchase the necessary power supply separately if needed. I think it’s just ridiculous for such a high price, especially since they publicly mocked Apple in the beginning.
