The Galaxy M31 and M31 Prime share similar specifications. This means that the phones have a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with FullHD+ resolution and a 32MP selfie camera. The phones are powered by the Exynos 9611 chipset and pack a 6,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. On the back, there’s a quad-camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 is a thick phone and feels a bit heavy in the hand, so it gets tiring to hold after a while. The smartphone is available in blue, black and red colors. The glossy back panel makes the Galaxy M31 a magnet for fingerprints and smudges, which is evident on the black variant we received for review. Additionally, putting the back panel on a desk or in your pocket with your keys will attract scratches.
The volume and power buttons are located high on the right side of the frame, which is not always easy to reach with one hand. The main camera of the Galaxy M31 takes good photos during the day. When Scene Optimizer is turned on, the camera uses a lot of software to enhance colors, which you may prefer over natural colors. So, for example, if you’re drawing flowers, greens will appear green, and pinks will appear red. Images are warmer, meaning you can’t capture natural whites. Overall, I found the contrast and dynamic range of daytime photos to be lacking compared to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in this segment.
The main camera can focus quickly on a subject in daylight, but it struggles a bit in the sunset. By default, the main camera shoots at 16 megapixels and uses pixel binning to deliver brighter, sharper images. You can manually switch the aspect ratio to 3:4 64MP to capture high-resolution images. However, 64MP images look darker, lack HDR support, and should only be used during the day if you want to capture wide landscapes to zoom in later.
