LG’s C2 Evo OLED TV is an impressive follow-up to the company’s class-leading C1 that we reviewed in 2021. In short, the LG C2 offers the best color accuracy we’ve seen out of the box, no calibration required. It also has the lowest input lag we’ve measured on a TV, and has useful features like Apple AirPlay and hands-free access to some voice assistants. LG’s WebOS platform is still a bit clunky to navigate, but that’s our only complaint about the otherwise excellent performance. The 65-inch model we tested is pretty pricey at $2,499.99, but the LG C2 Evo still easily earns our Editors’ Choice for OLED TVs.

The C2 is sleeker and more minimalist than the C1. The panel is still bezel-less, with a thin strip of gray metal around the edge, and a black border of less than a quarter-inch between it and the active portion of the screen. The panel itself is also very thin at a quarter of an inch, though the rectangular housing for the electronics on the back of the screen is 1.8 inches thick. The C2 sits on a rectangular gray metal stand that’s slightly narrower than the C1, but still holds the screen firmly. You can also mount the TV on the wall using a standard VESA mount.

Except for the permanently attached power cord that runs from the bottom center, all connections are on the left side of the case and face left. They include four HDMI ports (one eARC), three USB ports, one Ethernet port, an optical audio input, an antenna/cable connector, and 3.5mm ports for RS-232C control and an IR blaster. Permanently attached power cords are disappointing, as the cables are so easily damaged, we always like to be able to easily replace them (or use longer or shorter cables as needed).

The remote is the same curved, black wand with buttons we’ve seen on previous LG TVs, and it’s a bit clunky, but it functions flawlessly. The remote has a large circular navigation pad with a clickable scroll wheel in the center that doubles as a confirmation button. Luckily, the tension on the wheel is pretty firm, so you probably won’t accidentally turn it when you want to click it. Above the navigation pad is the number pad, volume controls and channel controls. Dedicated service buttons for Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, LG Channels, and Netflix, as well as buttons for Alexa and the Google Assistant are located below the navigation panel. WebOS 22 is the latest version of LG’s smart TV platform, and it packs a ton of features and a huge selection of apps. It has all the popular streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, YouTube and even Twitch; the only major omission is Crunchyroll. WebOS also features a full web browser that works well with Remote, Ambient, and Art Gallery modes, and a dashboard that integrates with LG smart devices and other compatible devices. The platform supports Apple AirPlay and Miracast/WiDi, but not Google Cast.

The built-in LG Voice Assistant lets you directly control your TV and any other compatible smart home devices; alternatively, you can access Alexa or Google Assistant for even more functionality. The C2 has a far-field microphone array that provides access to hands-free voice assistants, though only for Alexa and LG. The C2 doesn’t support hands-free Google Assistant, so you’ll have to use the remote.

Despite the sheer amount of features it offers, WebOS 22 still feels a bit clumsy and unwieldy. The interface was sometimes slow to respond to remote input, especially when switching between apps and the home screen. As is typical for LG, the TV’s setup is a level or two deeper than most other TVs. For example, the settings button on the remote and on the WebOS home screen only opens quick-select menus for commonly used settings. You can edit the menu to display different options, but even then the options are limited. For what it’s worth, these are the same issues we experienced with WebOS on the C1, and they don’t affect the TV’s excellent performance.

The color performance of the C2 is near perfect. The graph above shows measured color values ​​for a TV using an SDR signal in ISF (Bright) calibration mode compared to the Rec.709 broadcast standard, and an HDR signal in Cinema mode compared to the DCI-P3 digital cinema standard. It achieves the best Rec.709 values, which is great, but also a very common feat for many TVs. The biggest surprise was DCI-P3 performance.

Out of the box, the C2 accurately covers the entire digital cinema color space without any noticeable color shift. There are a few TVs that come close to this level of performance, but they always have some flaws: for example, the C1’s magenta is on the warm side, while the TCL 6-Series’ yellow is slightly undersaturated. The C2’s color is as perfect as we’ve seen on consumer TVs. C2 is the gold standard for uncalibrated home theater TV accuracy until TVs start hitting the wider Rec.2020 color space (still not dominating consumer content).

Looks great on C2. The greens of the plants and the blues of the sky and water look varied, vibrant and natural. Fine details like skin and bark are easy to see in bright light and shadows. However, at default settings, horizontal pan tends to look a little jagged on TVs in Cinema mode. I hate to admit it, but you might want to consider turning on TruMotion motion smoothing and setting it to Cinematic or Natural motion to reduce judder; neither will result in the soap opera effect that too many motion smoothing settings can have.
