I can finish this review quickly: Apple’s standard 10.2-inch iPad is the best iPad for most people who want to use a tablet. But I will give you more than that.

This is the cheapest iPad you can buy, and it doesn’t feel like it’s skimping on anything. For $330, it’s a worthy companion to your phone, giving you a bigger screen to run familiar, mainstream apps and even graphics-heavy games, whether you’re on the couch or commuting.

The Best Ipad Models In 2022

The standard iPad comes with Apple’s classic iPad design with large top and bottom bezels, a Touch ID home button and a metal body. It also comes in classic Apple colorways, including silver / white and medium gray / black.

It’s a proven design, but the large bezels mean that the iPad with a 10.2-inch screen has the same size as the iPad Air, which has a larger 11-inch screen.

The standard Retina LCD screen is Apple’s most basic display in the iPad range, but it comes with a True Tone feature that adjusts the color and intensity of the display to the ambient light of the room, providing a more natural and comfortable viewing experience.

Everything on the screen looks crisp and sharp and the colors look too bright. The iPad Air’s Liquid Retina Display offers slightly bolder colors, but it’s also nearly twice as expensive.

Ipad Air (2022) Review

Apple’s standard iPad runs on the company’s mobile processor found in iPhones. The iPad 2021 runs on the A13 Bionic processor from the iPhone 11 series. This is an older processor compared to the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13 series, and it’s not as powerful as the computer-grade M1 processor in the iPad Air, but it’s still perfect for running apps and games which you throw away afterwards.

Benchmark scores using the Geekbench 5 app show that the iPad Air is more powerful, especially for tasks that use more than one of the M1’s eight processor cores. iPad scored 1,330 for single-core and 3,470 for multi-core. In comparison, the 2022 iPad Air scored 1,721 for single-core performance and 7,333 for multi-core performance, which is right in line with our results for the M1-equipped 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 2021 iPad Pro.

That said, there are very few noticeable differences between the standard iPad and the iPad Air when you open and run apps and games. The real difference in performance will be noticeable with power-hungry tasks like editing high-resolution videos on your iPad versus the iPad Air.

There’s also the argument that the iPad won’t stay as fast and powerful as the iPad Air as more demanding apps and operating system updates are released. Even if that’s true, the verdict is still out because Apple’s M1 processor is still current and I haven’t seen how long it can last before it starts feeling sluggish, which probably won’t be at least two or three years.

Ipad Air Review: M1, Other Tablets 0

The FaceTime camera faced a low-quality front on previous standard iPads, but the iPad 2021 got a major upgrade from just 1.2 megapixels (MP) to 12 MP – that’s a 900% increase in fidelity.

The resulting images are sharper and clearer, and it also features an ultra-wide camera and Apple’s Center Stage feature that follows your face as you move through the video frame. Between the increased megapixels and ultra-wide options, this is a significant improvement over the 2020 iPad.

In this case, the standard iPad’s front-facing FaceTime camera is similar to iPad Air’s, except for Apple Smart HDR 3 technology, which improves photo lighting, but not for FaceTime calls – only selfies.

The iPad 2021 lasted five hours and 25 minutes in our battery test, where I continuously streamed YouTube videos at the iPad’s maximum brightness at 1440p resolution, which is closest to the iPad’s 1620p resolution.

Realme Pad Mini Review: A Cheap Ipad Mini Competitor • Mynexttablet

The iPad continues to use Apple’s Lightning port instead of the USB-C port. It doesn’t matter if you also have an iPhone, because you can charge the iPad using the same charger and cable that your iPhone uses.

Still, it would be nice to have more consistency in the Apple ecosystem. All other Apple iPads use USB-C, as do the company’s laptops.

The standard iPad is compatible with Apple’s first-generation Pencil, which is perfect for note-taking and drawing, although the second-generation Pencil is more responsive and has a more pencil-like design.

The iPad also supports mouse input for more precise and fast control, but Apple doesn’t make an integrated keyboard cover and trackpad for the standard iPad. You can find third-party keyboard covers that offer that functionality, such as the Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case and Trackpad.

Apple Ipad 9 Review: Cheapest Ipad Is Faster Than Samsung

The first alternative that comes to mind is the $600 iPad Air. At nearly twice the price of a standard iPad, though, I’d find it hard to look you in the eye and say you should buy an iPad Air instead. Unless you need the iPad Air’s computer-class performance, you won’t regret buying a standard iPad for $330.

Otherwise, I can highly recommend the latest iPad Mini. If the standard iPad is the “best” iPad, the iPad Mini is the “perfect” iPad, at least subjectively. Its small size means the iPad Mini is lighter and more portable, while offering a larger screen than your phone. The only reason the iPad Mini isn’t the “best” iPad is because of its $500 price tag. Still, the iPad Mini runs on the A15 Bionic processor found in the iPhone 13 series, making it more powerful and lasting longer than the standard iPad.

If you are a Samsung phone user, it might be a good idea to buy a Samsung tablet now that you can make calls and send texts on the company’s tablet. The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus is a beautiful and feature-rich tablet, but it’s expensive at $900. The $700 Galaxy Tab S8 is a viable alternative, but it’s still far more expensive than the standard iPad. You can read my review of the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus here.

There is also a Samsung Galaxy Tab A series of tablets that are more affordable and offer texting and calling, but I haven’t reviewed them so I can’t comment on them accurately.

The Ipad Is The Best Tablet For 2022

If you plan to surf the web, stream videos, run popular apps in general, and even play graphics-heavy games, there’s no reason to spend more on the iPad Air, let alone the iPad Pro series. In this case, the basic iPad retains its position as the best Apple tablet for most people.

There is one thing that is consistent about the entry-level iPad. From the first model launched in the spring of 2010 until last year, it had a 9.7-inch screen. Last September, Apple made its biggest cosmetic change to the iPad in years, increasing the screen size to 10.2 inches. However, at that time the processor did not change and the A10 processor was first seen in the iPhone 7.
