Her lightsaber was recently released in Hasbro’s Black Series. The Force FX Elite weapon features LED technology – believed to be the first lightsaber to offer color changing between blue, green and yellow-green blades. The metal hilt is advertised as “realistic” as it features details based on Ahsoka Tano’s lightsaber. However, it has a clear plastic insert whose metal edges rub a little unpleasantly in the palms. The fact that the manufacturing and copyright information is stamped on the underside of the grip, however, does not make the gun more authentic in the sense that it is “real” (the disposal information sticker can be removed). The on/off button is a real nuisance: it’s only a few millimeters wide and is pressed with your fingernail – if you have sausage fingers, you won’t stand a chance. Assembling the sword isn’t exactly easy, and the instructions are in small print on a black background.

The “Black Series” has a more decorative touch, due to its price. The lightsaber is not suitable for combat because the plastic coating of the blade is sensitive. Also included is the Cyber Crystal – cool to look at, but then it may sit unused on some consumer’s shelf forever. The sword stand, on the other hand, is decorative, but even the seven-year-old son of the writer of these lines noticed that the stand is based on the industrial design of the Death Star, so strictly speaking, it doesn’t fit. Despite the awkward groove on the hilt, the lightsaber has a nice curve and is easy to hold. In addition to the on/off button, there is another one (which would actually be more convenient as an on/off button) for managing effects. They are the biggest pluses of the product: in addition to three colors, they offer sound changes during combat, wall splitting and blade effects. The sound is impeccable and seems to be taken from the Star Wars universe.
The blades also glow in the dark and bounce off a beam of light and grow at just the right speed as you would expect. Sounds just don’t react to button presses, even pure hand movements cause deviations in operation sounds. The lightsaber is battery operated – it turns off after a while of not being used.

Ahsoka Tano is a beloved Star Wars character and this lightsaber replica is the perfect collectible for her fans. I am in love with the fact that it can change the color of the blade and the crystal has a display of that color. Dedicated fans know they’ll also be getting Legacy Lightsabers at Galaxy’s Edge, so this will be a great contender for fans who can make it to the park. Most Star Wars Force FX Elite lightsabers cost around $220, so I wouldn’t expect anything different for the price. While the release date and price are unknown, pre-orders for Ahsoka Tano’s Saber should go live today at 5pm EST on Hasbro Pulse as well as retailers.
